Of course it's only blurry if you want it to be:

Definitely will be playing my old DS games on the DSLite, hopefully I finish all the DS games I need to get before I buy a 3DS (when 3DSLite launches, I can wait 2 years)

I like playing games for fun. SSFIV3D is fun.

Been used to it since the days of SNES pad. People adapt. It's not like we're all tournament-level players anyway.

Yeah, sorry for getting a little carried away. I feel silly for not putting it into perspective. :(

What's with all these first-person Ridge Racer videos? Am I the only one who hates playing racing games that way, and wants to see the car I'm driving?

How is the slider in comparison with the PSP's thumb pad? I'm playing Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and it's hard to keep snake moving slow with the PSP pad.

Actually, to be honest, the controls for this game are extremely wtf.

Same here. Though the first-person & cockpit views might be awesome in 3D.

Ages better. You feel more in control as your thumb rests nicely in the concave part of the slide pad. Doesn't feel as mechanical as the nub and is very smooth in comparison.

I can't believe how poor Steel Diver looks. I was really looking forward to it.
:O

I managed to see the first video posted of Steel Diver and it looks like a lot of fun! Kind of annoyed it isn't releasing day one in the UK.

First extended play in the glaring sun today. I see a problem. The interior screen is glossy and reflects everything. Eyes continue adjusting between focusing to the reflected image/glare and the screen. End result? Double image at first before eyes slowly adjusting and merging the double image into a cohesive 3D image. In games which requires split second reflex like RR3D this may cost you a position or two.

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
Played the 3DS in the car on the way to work today (getting driven though :p) didn't lose the 3D too much when getting bumped around.

Pretty good.

They're not even close. The 3DS pad trounces the PSP nub on every level.

It was the first thing that made me think 'wow this first person Metroid thing might just work'
Jumping Flash did it first!

I'm pleasantly surprised by the information about Pilotwings Resort. There seems to be more content than I expected.

So besides SSFIV (and Pilotwings?), what other games seem to be the best launch titles?

From that one video that was 6 minutes or so it pretty much sold me. Showed so much new stuff I haven't seen.

Seriously! That Steel Diver video did a good job of showing what the game is about. It's probably not for everyone, but it looks like it'd be really interesting if it appeals to you. I had no clue what the fuss was over, but now I know. It looks surprisingly fleshed out with a nice variety of locales and things to do. The music seemed nice, too.

I just hope there's a way to move the surface/dive lever over to the left side in case you're a lefty.

I can't do racing games in third person. The reason why is when I'm turning my car, I find it hard to gauge exactly what angle I need to be at to make the best line through the turn (when I'm looking at the side of my car, I'm not seeing exactly where it's headed). If I could lock the camera to the rear of the car that would be better but most games don't let you do that.

Bumper cams are bad though when they're really low to the ground, I will admit that. I like to be at a normal eye level.

one thing i'll say about 3D in ridge racer is that it really highlights how bad the collision detection can be. i play 3rd person because it's much easier to drift that way, but it often looks like there's a good foot of space between you and the car you just hit.

Does anyone really think that StreetPass thing is gonna work in America? Seems tailor made for Japan to me.

I'm gonna rock that shit so hard at Games Convention this year in Germany

That six-minute Steel Diver overview was BADASS. Loved the bioluminescent sea monster, the periscope battle in stormy seas, and the part where the sub's shooting icicles beneath the glacier. It's neat to see they show pictures of what each sub captain looks like, ala Advance Wars. Looks like there's a ton of variety, and it just feels so cool having the controls on the touchscreen. Like a portable Steel Battalion with more practical mech controls. XD

I think it depends on the racer if I want to do first or third person.

Since playing Gran Turismo a week ago (which was 1st person by default) I played Ridge Racer 1 (also 1st person by default) and I couldn't play either in third person.

However, a game like F-Zero GX or maybe Cruis'n I must play 3rd person.

Possibly in American schools where lots of kids are.

Outside of that, no.
Since I'm in NYC, I'll probably walk around Times Square more often, or even go to Rockefeller Center more (where tourists and Nintendo World are) if I want to get some StreetPass action.

Hmm. Anyone else notice that all, it seems anyway, of the RR videos are of the same track? I wonder if the video makers are trying not spoil things or is it hard to unlock new stages?

In schools and school buses it will work pretty well. Outside of that I don't think so.

Oh yeah, I forgot about special events and mass gatherings you could bring a 3DS to.

nope, malls, colleges, special events (there are a lot here in Savannah), walking cities like NYC, Savannah, etc
Off-Topic, but how is Savannah these days? Do you like it? Love it?

Depends on how populated your city is. Savannah, GA has three main colleges/universities, a bunch of malls and mini malls, and we're big on tourism so the Downtown area is always packed. Streetpass is going to work fine for me :)

Can someone compare their 3ds to their DS lite sizewise? Just wondering if my case for the DS lite, which is pretty snug, will fit the 3ds.

You started some thread at DICE about how Bethesda didn't want to be on Nintendo platforms or something. I think you mistyped "I think it's retarded" and ended up with that tag - possibly forever.

I've been walking about for two days now and haven't found a single person with it.

I'm taking my 3DS with me to the Houston Japan Fest. But I plan to carry it with me everywhere I go just to increase my chances of a StreetPass encounter. :)

IIRC, you meant to type "I think it's retarded _______" but typed your tag.

I remember that, I have no idea what it was about but I remember one of the first comments being "Did you just call yourself retarded?". Good times.

More on topic, I live in Nowhere, Oklahoma so Street Pass is going to be limited to my occasional trips to Dallas, and even then it's doubtful I'll get a hit since it's not really a big tourism town. I'm totally gonna take it everywhere just in case though.

You don't say...

For all the people in Shibuya, I've gotten all of 1 person on StreetPass per visit. It's more effective to stand at a station exit or walk through a train that's not too crowded, but most or all of the seats are taken. I'll have to try Akiba this weekend.

Got a shitload at the Keys of Game concert last night :)
I'm up to about 20 now. Getting some major puzzle piece love.

Another "magical" reference, can't wait to see what they all mean by that.
Also Eurogamer describes a "micro-surgically" precision made possible by 3D, which more and more sounds like a game changer feature.

After reading this neeedless to say this I will pick Pilotwings along with SF4 at launch.
Eurogamer said:
The moment you get to play with the squirrel suit in Pilotwings Resort is magical.[...]the suit comes out, and suddenly you're diving straight towards the centre of Wuhu's volcano while the game snaps into keen focus around you. The scenery suddenly seems sharper, the playfully-used 3D is transformed into the perfect tool for judging your descent, and the rings no longer represent a gentle muddle of objectives, but rather a micro-surgically precise arrangement of targets for you to lance through.

[...]the 3D effect is really excellent. Your head-up display stands out from the screen, the mountains disappear towards the horizon, and your craft feels like a little die-cast toy suspended in the foreground. The illusion of depth is surprisingly useful when it comes to judging distance in some of the more precise challenges, and sitting down with the console held steadily in front of you, the image doesn't separate very often either.

I tend to be happiest with the 3D slider set around the halfway mark, although I suspect it's different for everyone, and the game remains entirely playable – and bright and attractive – if you view it in standard 2D. In case you're worried about your own eyes, it's worth noting that I have trouble with 3D stuff at the cinema and I could see Pilotwings' tricks and tweaks perfectly.

[...]for more elderly players, it's nice to see that the spirit of the SNES survives. As an updating of an old favourite, this is a lovely piece of work; as a friendly shoving-off for a strange new handheld, it's wonderfully judged.
