I don't think they can figure out the CPU by looking at it, since it's a custom part. From what I understand, at least.
Are we going to be stuck wondering forever, then?

Do you think it'll be leaked eventually?

I think the 3 games I'll get on launch are Steel Diver, SSIV, and Pilotwings.
I'm definitely getting at least SSFIV and Pilotwings.

Not sure about anything else.

I'll have Black and White to hold me over as well, so I'm not too concerned.

So, birthday on Sunday, 3DS release this month...

I'm kinda thinking of waiting until June, but I can see myself getting it earlier because I'm a sucker for new hardware.

Three months is a long time when your friends are going to be waving it in your face.

Think about it.

Thanks! It seems they will have more aggressively FW updates.

Possibly, but remember we're in the immediate post-launch period and it's likely that this update consists of last-minute tweaks and bugfixes that just weren't ready in time for the first batch of units manufactured.

I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be
Could be my imagination but is the touch screen smaller than the DSi screen? Looks smaller in side by side shots. That'd be annoying.

Pilotwings has been ordered but only Wuhu Island (which I explored massively in Wii Sports Resort already) is a massive disappointment.

Dude that Steel Diver trailer looks great. Makes me remember the awesome Boogie Wings and I don't know why. Man I would love to play Boogie Wings on 3DS...

Also, what's Oshirase?

Yes, it's noticeably smaller than the DSI and barely larger than the original DS.

From the IGN Dream Trigger preview:

Nintendo has dictated that all 3DS games have to be playable with the 3D turned off, limiting developers' abilities to use 3D to affect gameplay. For Dream Trigger there is a neat workaround in the form of powerups. The little gems that keep you alive in the game will move in from the background, and can only be snatched up when they're on your plain. When the 3D is turned off, the gems light up when they can be grabbed, but with 3D on players can see them approach and better plan out when to swoop in to snag one while constantly dodging the barrage of enemy fire.

That's a pretty neat example of the benefits of the 3D and how they're possible in 2D.

I'm not really one to take notice of game reviews but I thought the Pilotwings Eurogamer review was well-written. In fact I really like Eurogamer's off-beat style, it's still informative but rarely feels like it's going through the motions. Good stuff.

Also made me feel pretty good about the game, though having just Wuhu Island is still disappointing.

So I guess "improved stability" is going to be the 3DS equivilant of "Behind the scenes performance enhancements"...

● SpotPass functionality updated
Data included in notifications expanded in part.
Does this mean Spotpass might not be backwards compatable.

What? SpotPass is the term for system notifications and automatic updates/downloads. It's a 3DS-only feature.

That update is probably the stock firmware that comes with the US and EU 3DS system (since the JPN version was released earlier, they probably didn't have time to get the final intended "1.0" version on there)

Don't expect updates to come as quickly and as frequently as this in the future.

"Co-Developed by Vitei Inc" Well, that's that confirmed then (not that it wasn't unlikely)

Also means that I was wrong and that Vitei is still alive and well.

BTW: I love the music! Gives me a nice Advance Wars vibe (as do the COs that control the subs too!)

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

So with this update - did SpotPass work and preload the update before, or did you have to still download it yourself once in the menu ?

I got spot and street mixed up (again) and was thinking it would be like people on older firmware woludn't recieve data (Streetpass functionality would be a good incentive to update but in practice it doesn't really work since not eeveryone will be on the same firmware, ever most people won't update the firmware unless they have to).

Just finished doing the firmware update on mine. the "3D images of live music" is new. It's a 3D video clip of the "Super Mario Brothers Theme", played by that person in that bullet point. :p

Don't see anything else that is new.

I don't know yet. It's on the original firmware at the moment. One way to find out...

So with the system updates, for example, could it work like this?
Ex.

Person A downloads update off of Wi-Fi or Spotpass.

Anyone Person A passes receives the update on their 3DS through Streetpass, ready to update as soon as the system is opened.

I thought spotpass was how the update was sent between cradling 3DS systems. Streetpass only sends metadata for up to 12 games so probably like 256kb of data at the most (it doesn't have long to do it in) since its designed for when you're walking down the street. A firmware will probably be like 10MB or so...

It's Koji Kondo on piano.

It does look nice, but the lack of online multiplayer is enough reason for me not to buy this one. Will simply wait for their next installment or for Fifa.

there is no multiplayer at all or just online multiplayer?

Ugh, damn you Japan! What is it with all these mobile games being released with no online. It just sucks.. especially such obvious candidates such as Ridge Racer and Winning Eleven.

I guess it is a wonder that Street Fighter IV has it at all.. I bet Nintendo pushed Capcom to include it.

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

Was the update done automatically, or did you have to prompt it?

Also were you notified when you turned the console on that an update was available?

I was playing Pokemon, switched back to the menu and the notification light was bleeping in blue. Notification said there was an update, but had to go to the menu to do it.

It's downloading as we speak.

Anyone want me to record the video?

Borrowed another lens to try and get better shots of what the DS games looks like on it.
