yep, especially because it's 5sec for all the games except codblops which could be measure failure.

Would be more varied if it was caused by something else.

Loading times from when to when? From power on to first visuals onscreen, I really don't think 999 takes 8 seconds to load, and I don't remember any other load times during the game.

GameSpot tested load times on the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo DS Lite with five DS titles. Time measurements began from the moment we launched the game in the console's menu until we could interact with the game menu. All tests were repeated three times and then averaged to the nearest whole number.

Even if these guys were viewing it under yellow light, how could they look at the photos they uploaded with the review and still call it green?

I know, the top thing looks like it'd add a lot of thickness to the device for only holding a battery twice the size of the one in the 3DS. Based on the size of the battery in the 3DS, they should be able to fit at least three of those in that battery pack.

Also, making the bottom of the 3DS look black and ugly at the same time!

Well hell I am still going to buy it if it adds an extra 5 hours. Pretty sure with in 3+ months there will be smaller more efficient ones.

Possibly, but they probably figured there'd be more demand for a $20 device to double the battery life than a $40 device to quadruple it.
 
So, random thought: From seeing the Super Street Fighter IV review score in the Game Informer review thread...

Can anyone think of a better-recieved third party launch title on any system?

I think it does replace your battery instead of complementing it. It's the fact that the battery is so much bigger that it needs to stick out. If you mean it just fits within the same space, but gives you double the life, that may not be possible.

Well, the news blurb made it sound as though it plugged into your 3DS and extended the battery life (external power pack thing) - the image makes it look as though it entirely replaces the existing battery.

If the Nyko battery's quality is any good (and that seems like a big "if"), the extra size really doesn't look THAT bad.

I don't get how people that work in the industry don't get this.
Companies still use VGA cameras because they don't take up a lot of resources and can be properly used for stuff like AR.

Keep in mind that without it, the back is perfectly flat, so the pack is bulging out quite a ways. And it's a bad picture, as it makes it look like the rest of the system is matte rather than glossy with specks in it. In real life this thing would look like crap, especially on a blue system.

It's not totally bad to have a black back in replacement of the blue battery cover. That's how all the units at GDC were. In fact I sorta worry the fact that it was missing sorta swayed my opinion towards blue when in reality having the full blue backing might have not make me like it so much.

We need to see a true side view of the pack in the 3DS. I have my doubts Nyko will provide one.

Yeah it replaces the standard 3DS battery, and I have to agree it doesn't look bad at all. Have to see it in person to be sure, but its worth a try at $19.99 (or $29.99 with the external docking charger).

Maybe, maybe not. I doubt the same guy will be reviewing both the iPad and the 3DS so there is a good chance one may not have a problem with the iPads camera. Not to mention only the front cam is VGA so they aren't really used for the exact thing. I could be wrong though.

does this fuck up the battery itself like Li-Ion batteries? I have no idea how that works.
 
That battery pack is very interesting. Hm... Do we know if we can charge it with just the default charger, or are they going to make you buy a third party one to do that as well?

It replaces the original battery so you'll be able to charge it with the normal plug.

Yeah, but apparently the HD camera is the one found on the touch, which is about 0.7 megapixels (just regurgitating news here, no tech).

I don't know if the VGA will look worse or better on an iPad screen - will it upscale the image or show its blemishes even more?

But yeah, if they're going to say that VGA is 'laughably low-res these days even for a handheld gaming console', then surely a similar spec camera for a high-end consumer electronic product should get a similar, if not worse write-out? I'm guessing not.

I digress anyhow. I tried PES2011 out last week, but you couldn't play in classic mode. I'll probably be picking it up when I get around to buying a 3DS later this spring.

Nope, Li-Ion batteries love that - the smaller the discharge the better, and that's what the 3DS has
 
Hmm, I bought all the extra AR games from the shop, but when I exit the shop, one purple box is missing. I didn't read carefully enough and just bought them all at once. Anyone care to explain? Thanks!

Its a lithium ion battery like the original, just with a 2600mAh capacity rather then 1300mAh.

A 1300mAh replacement battery for 3DS is available for $7 to $8, so $19.99 seems about right for a 2600mAh version with the extra back casing to fit it in.

Okay. I wasn't sure if the Nyko was a lithium ion or not. I guess this all makes sense then...

Of course, now my mind is suddenly pondering the wacky notion of a harness holding 3 official 3DS batteries at once. I'm sure you can't just use them in tandem, though. Heh.
