1/3 of it is already in the game when you Pre order it unlocks it.
That's just bullshit and you know it. The treasure chests are not one third of the content, they are just neat little gifts for the people that preorder the season pass. The same thing happened with Mario Kart. If you preordered the DLC bundle, you got different Shy Guy colors right away as a thank you for paying early. Are you going to say that getting new Shy Guy colors was half of the content of the bundle because the other half was the extra courses?

The more recent zelda games to have hard modes have been fairly half assed efforts (double damage no hearts) and if that's what we're paying for then yeah people should be irked. Perhaps this hard mode will be a better balanced hard mode that feels like it wasn't a lack second bonus, that could make it worth the cost.

Additionally, what if this hard mode is more like Zelda 2nd quest or Ocarina of Time master quest? A mode that changes the dungeons and maybe rearranges their locations and items? If this hard mode is more like that then I really don't think it would be so terrible to charge for it considering how massive botw is.

What you consider to be "Pack 2" already confuses me a bit, as I can't see it being the same "hero mode" from past games. Doesn't that mode usually remove your ability to find hearts? Haven't they confirmed that the only way to heal yourself in the main game is to rest or cook?

I actually don't know. I've been avoiding most info on BotW, but this DLC thing piqued my curiosity.

But yeah, Hero mode in the past has removed the ability to find hearts in grass/pots/etc. and makes you take 2-4 times as much damage as normal from enemies.

Edit: Oh and I guess my pack 1 is called expansion pass bonus, my pack 2 is pack 1, and pack 3 is pack 2.

Sorry posting again but I meant out of the 3 releases not all of the content as a whole.

Said no one ever.

For a while at least since they've been doing DLC for years now.

I'd argue this could be the worst offender though. With Mario Kart 8 they gave us a plethora of new tracks and characters for what was it, $12?

Putting a difficulty mode behind DLC sucks. I don't really mind the dungeon as they'll likely still be working on the dungeon post-release.

Yeah I'd be fine with that latter option. Whilst a Master Quest included day one would be great it's not like Nintendo's ever done that before for a 3D Zelda, they've always been locked to rereleases or remakes.

I like that Nintendo does this. IIRC they've done it with MK8 (Yoshi + Shy Guy Colors), Mario Golf World Tour (Gold Mario), Hyrule Warriors (Dark Link) and Legends (Wind Waker Ganondorf). It's nice to get a little instant bonus for buying content you won't actually get to play for months.

This really isn't surprising considering every bit of news for the Switch has been a cruel surprise.

Alls I can say is Retro better fucking deliver.

I wish they didn't do this. And it sucks because I'm going to buy it. If hard mode changes are extremely substantial then I would understand since rebalancing an entire open world sounds like a ludicrous feat honestly.

A new original story is nice. But it's going against Witcher 3 and that game had hearts of stone:..

This thread and the whiny, flailing responses to this news make me feel good about the Switch's chances. "$20 FOR A HARD MODE?!?!" "$20 FOR A SWITCH SHIRT?!?!"

Who needs to complain about kids in Switch ads when we've got tons of children right here?

I just expected better from Nintendo, honestly. The Witcher 3 comparison is interesting because when they announced the DLC it just sounded like immense value for the money and it actually was!

But 20 bucks for a new story and dungeon? That sounds like shit. Maybe it's going to be a long story with a giant dungeon, I don't know. At this point though, it sounds like shit. I sure as hell am not excited about spending this much money on a fucking Zelda dungeon.

Ah, gotcha. Saw the traps and puzzle and thought that's what they were.

You said something, someone clarified and corrected, and you acknowledged the correction and explained your reasoning behind your initial hunch.

This is the kind of respect and decorum I love to find on these forums, so thank you :)

if there will be a good amount of high quality content then it will be a good expansion pass

if not then it will be a bad one

there isn't much more to say at this point or is there?

At this rate, I'm just glad that ~$20 DLC will cover me with whatever else they stand to offer and I won't have to hunt down more damn amiibos.

Already broke down and got a Wolf Link so I can have the doggo follow me around...

I forgot about the double-damage thing! That seems to be another area where I just can't see them going with the same approach. They've confirmed that certain enemies can deal more than 6 hearts of damage in a single blow. They'd practically have to make almost every enemy capable of a one-hit kill going with that method.

I think this makes me more excited honestly. I'm really curious to see what they implement given that the traditional approach wouldn't really work.

No, its Nintendo, we are gonna assume the worst, even though their past DLC was good.

This is hardly a sterling example of maturity either. If you've got a problem with what people are saying then respond to them rather than just complaining to no one in particular.

Funnier than living in a world where i have to make up facts about content i dont know anything about. Zelda isnt even a RPG so it will fall short on a lot of things that a series like The Witcher relies on.

Ok.
Haven't made up a single fact. The problem is Nintendo not divulging anything.

Because they should? I complain when other publishers offer season passes with vague promises of what they're offering so I'm going to call Nintendo on it when they do this too.

While I agree many are overreacting I completely agree. Until Nintendo provides more information this is a bad deal and should be called out on it.

Wait so are you or aren't you pre ordering this time around? Just curious and has nothing to do with the thread :)

Just cosmetica though. What that has lead to is another matter.
Come on, no "Thor 2: The Dark World" related option? This is Zelda we're talking about, there's a literal Dark World in one of the games. :P
