if there will be a good amount of high quality content then it will be a good expansion pass

if not then it will be a bad one

there isn't much more to say at this point or is there?

Pretty much this.

However, they certainly need to let them be separate purchases.

the main difference is that Ubisoft doesn't develops additional content..they just strip a part of the game that's already in the disc, hiding it behind a code, and try to sell it to you for additional money, that's greedy dlc

making additional content AFTER the game is complete is another whole affair, and from my point of view, an ok practice.

I mean, fair point, even though I'd argue that The Division DLC didn't feel like it was stripped out and then added. However, the problem with this argument is that you can't really say this about Breath of the Wild. Locking a hard mode behind DLC seems shady at best, and given how long this game's taken to make, who's to say that some of the DLC stuff wasn't taken out to be sold separately? You can't just make that claim without any sort of evidence.

Edit: Also, something that I find rather strange about Season Passes is that there is never really any incentive to buy them ahead of time, since they never go up in price once the final DLC releases. In fact, many times the Season Passes drop in price by then, so you're never really penalized for waiting. I think given the uncertain nature of DLC, even if we have a vague idea of what it's going to be, it's probably just better to wait until it comes out to see whether it's worth the money.

I just expected better from Nintendo, honestly. The Witcher 3 comparison is interesting because when they announced the DLC it just sounded like immense value for the money and it actually was!

But 20 bucks for a new story and dungeon? That sounds like shit. Maybe it's going to be a long story with a giant dungeon, I don't know. At this point though, it sounds like shit. I sure as hell am not excited about spending this much money on a fucking Zelda dungeon.

They're not forcing you to buy it now. If you're not sold on it, wait until we get more information or until it comes out.

Even Nintendo is selling nebulous season passes these days. Oh well.

edit: really have to wonder if Iwata would have allowed this

Nintendo sold season passes while Iwata was alive, so I'm going to assume that yes, yes he would.

In fact, one of the season passes was for....wait for it....Hyrule Warriors.

Nintendo still sells a handheld that doesn't come with a way to charge it out of the box. It's pretty hilarious people think somehow Iwata/Nintendo/whoever is above something like a $20 season pass for Zelda.

Pack 1 doesn't sound too great, in all honesty.

Unless by "New Hard Mode" they mean remixed dungeons like OoT Master Quest, in which case it might be worth buying.

I'm curious about "new hard mode," because the game itself already has most of the features that Hero Mode in past Zelda games: enemies do far more damage than in previous games already, and you can't find hearts to instaheal in the world but need to use healing items.

So I'm wondering if it'll just be the double damage from the Ganondorf amiibo, or if it'll be that coupled with other effects, or if enemy placements and behavior will actually change, or if, given the game's themes, it'll be a full on survival mode with food requirements and even more stringent healing needs.

The game went gold several weeks ago, prior to that they had no concrete plans for DLC.

So I honestly can't see how this is anything but a good thing. You can pay if you want for extra content. Hopefully it's more in line with an "expansion pack" than it is with modern DLC, but regardless, this is new content you can have if you want. We really know very little about what this content will entail, but going by Nintendo's previous high profile DLC efforts it's likely to be pretty substantial.

If you don't want to pay an extra $20, you still have an enormous Zelda game to play. But people who want more content in this world get it. So I don't see why this is a bad thing.

It could even be a boss rush mode for all we know. The game as it stands is already reportedly quite difficult, so doubling damage taken just doesn't sound fun to me. Maybe they'll add more enemies?

They're forcing you to buy all packs though. Because they know nobody would buy number 1, and probably because number 2 isnt worth 20€.

This poll bothers me. I can't vote for DLC Pack 2 because I actually WANT Zelda to not be playable and I look forward to the meltdowns.

Obviously. I'm just saying that absolutely nothing about this announcement fills me with excitement and joy. It's just ewww at this point, and I'd rather not be feeling like this about any aspect of this game.

"Oh neat, new dungeons post release? This could be cool."

Yes. Zelda is a SERIOUS series, with no goofy shi-

Dunno, I'm a huge fan but the thought of playing with some Switch shirt gives me the actual creeps.

Who cares, it's not the main thing about the DLC, but it stinks. I'll burn it down or something. ^^

SIgh.. et tu Nintendo?

Keep stabbing me in the back like all the other companies, so I have to get a chart to see if I have a complete version of a game to play my RPG/Adventure on :(. ANd for what? The second hand market? Is that the only reason you charge physical prices for digital games?

But the gamer crowd will fall for it again, I'm sure. They'll just buy it and your shareholders will be soooo happy.

Never before have we needed SEGA back in old Form than these days, but when they do come back .. they probably are the same with scrooging for money to please the rich. :(.

I'm going to guess that it's a full on rebalance of the game for expert players. As in it'll probably be harder than a lot of games if Nintendo wanted it to be.

it'd be cool if hard mode changed the enemy AI to make traversing through the world tougher

Nintendo sure is getting with the times, i'm proud of them. :^)
Ain't buying this shit until i know the full details of the content, buying season passes is the equivalent of preordering dlc.

....is this a new announcement...? first one look like filler trash , but second one should be legit. Will wait until second DLC is fleshed out before purchasing decision made.

I miss expansions instead of DLC

What do you think the new "hard mode" will entail? I was just discussing this with another user but I'd love to hear your opinion. As the base game includes elements previously found in "hero mode" (no health pickups, enemies that deal substantial damage) it really doesn't seem that they would just give us a "traditional" approach here.

I'm thinking it could involve tweaking dungeons and moving shrines around ALA mirror mode.

Never thought I'd see the day. I'm glad its just 20 bucks though. Most season passes nowadays range from $30-$40. The only bad thing is that it doesn't seem worth it until the holidays, I'm really curious how that story DLC will play out.

Fucking really? I must have dreamed the season passes for Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Golf, Fire Emblem: Fates, etc...

Oh my god, take the wheel T_T

DLC Pack 2 sounds like the only substantial content. It'll probably be worth the $20 itself tho. Locking hard mode behind the season pass is wack, however.

Yeah, if the "Hard Mode" is something akin to OOT's Master Quest, it'll absolutely be worth the price point.

I somehow suspect the paywalled Hard Mode is something a little more substantial than the Hero Mode of games past, with the damage pumped up and health replenishment constrained, but it may be advisable to wait and see.

Nintendo DLC runs the gamut from an absolute steal (MK8) to packs that double the cost of the game (Awakening, SSB), so I won't rush to judgement but also don't see much of a reason to put money down right away until we hear more. The value will or will not be justified by the quality and breadth of the content itself, and also by the sense of completeness in the out-of-the-box experience, which in this case includes the scalability of the difficulty. If the base game truly comes off as unfinished or in serious need of a distinct Hard Mode not already created by the player's chosen path through the world, certainly we should go ahead and grumble.

Mostly, my dismay is that I would rather have seen the Zelda team work on an independent follow-up like Majora's Mask to elaborate on what the BotW engine and systems can do within an idiosyncratic format, but we can only hope that possibility has not been excluded, only deferred.

I'll probably hold off on buying in at launch as I want to experience the game as balanced without the early boost of useful items.

Yes?

Mario Kart 8?
Fire Emblem?
Hyrule Warriors?
New Super Mario Bros. 2?

All these games have Season Passes/DLC.
