Nintendo Classic Mini: Famicom announced in Japan

Ordered mine! :D

FYI, there's also an official USB AC Adapter available for 1080yen:

Famicom Mini AC Adapter

Plus there's a bundle for the Famicom Mini, AC Adapter, & Amazon Post Card Set for 7538yen (which is what I ordered):

Famicom Mini + AC Adapter + Amazon Card Set

Here's a link to the main Famicom Mini page with all of Amazon JP's options:

Damn, didn't notice that it didn't come with an AC adapter with the standard version. I'll cancel and re-order the bundle instead. Thanks!

Edit: And done.

Cool how they didn't just slap the American release list on there. Having a couple of the Kunio games with the superior FF game, Atlantis no Nazo, Solomon's Key makes a lotta sense. AD2 and Kid Icarus weren't all that big over there, and Startropics never even released in JP.

Looks nice! Too bad there won't be a Famicom Classic Controller.

I'm also suspecting these are based on the Famicom carts which is why there's no Castlevania 2, JP SMB2, or Kid Icarus for the Famicom Mini release (Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Castlevania 1, and Metroid were re-released on Famicom carts)

Just a reminder before you spend more money than you need to spend: every USB AC Adapter and AFAIK even an USB out from your TV should work.

(Zelda 2 and Metroid were never re-released on Famicom carts and these are almost certainly the FDS versions, they even show the FDS boxarts)

Don't know how people can order this with the controller that small.

Unless you just want to use it as an ironic retro display piece or something.

Zelda 2 and Metroid were never released on carts, and these are clearly the FDS versions, since they show the FDS boxes.

Edit: beaten doh

That said it would have been cool if there were no FDS games, because that would imply a FDS upgrade pack could be coming later ;)

This is why I'm ordering it. I've always loved the design of the Famicom, so having it set up as a display piece is exactly what I'm after.

But then, I'm an insane collector. :/

That's the reason I want one.

lol fair enough. Isn't there a cheaper alternative? Though I guess the fact that this is actual working is a plus.

Oh well, maybe somehow the controllers aren't THAT uncomfortable.

A fully working regular Famicom would be much much cheaper lol. Even an AV modded one.

Won't look great on your modern TV however...

A perfectly white one with no yellow spots whatsoever and original packaging should be more expensive tho!

If not..I really need to get back to Japan ASAP..until then this is the next best thing to it for me :/. I mean I've my AV famicom, but it's gray and disgusting

They have some in original packaging here in Osaka and Tokyo at Super Potato but quite expensive...

Ah I should have said that these stores in Akiba/denden town is what I base my knowledge on ^.^! Last time I was in Japan was 2015..did not know if prices may have come down a bit since then.

Controllers kill it for me. Not to mention I don't read Japanese for FF3, the exclusive that interests me.

Kudos to there being an Amazon preorder tho. Where the USA version preorders at???

Looking at this mini, I honestly can't get over how ugly the Famicom is though. Really garish.

Just like the North American SNES, The NES is much nicer looking and more iconic than its Japanese counterpart.

For those wondering which exclusives each region gets

NES Classic exclusive: Bubble Bobble, Castlevania 2, Donkey Kong Jr, Final Fantasy, Kid Icarus, Punch Out, Startropics, Tecmo Bowl

Famicom exclusive: Yie Ar Kung-Fu, Atlantis no Nazo, Solomon's Key, Tsuppari Sumo, River City Ransom, Final Fantasy 3, Mario Club Golf, Downtown Street Challenge

I'm not sure who got the better deal here.

NoA only cares about maintaining the reseller market obviously

I'm looking at you Pokémon GO+

The Nintendo Classic Mini: NES seems to be far more functional with a proper controller. At the same time, it's also a tad bit more expensive.

Lol 'more iconic', so insular a perspective. You realise the Famicom and Super Famicom will be the iconic ones to Japanese people (and Australian/European people in the SNES case).

And while the NES is a great design, but the US SNES is a design abortion that only childhood memories could love.

Isn't it roughly the same price?
Famicom around 55€ (Roughly 77€ with import tax and shipping to Germany) with two controllers (one with mic)

NES 69,99€ (Amazon.de price when I pre-ordered) + 10€ for a second controller.

Both without AC USB adapter, amazon.de is telling me it ships without one.

When you add an AC adapter to the Famicom mini it's the same price as when you add a second controller to the NES mini. You don't really need the AC adapter for the Famicom mini if you already have one though.

Oh man look at the controller

Finally all my years of playing the Gameboy Micro has led to this.

I was curious but that controller size is convincing me to stick with the NES version. Plus I like the NES's exclusives more overall, even if the novelty of playing FFIII on (semi)-original hardware is tempting.

Nintendo Classic Mini + second controller (no charger) - 69.99 EUR (on Amazon.de it was actually 79.99 EUR, hope they reduce the price at launch)

Nintendo Classic Mini Famicom (incl. two controllers) - 52.60 EUR
In the US, it's $69.98 for a system, two controllers and AC adapter. In Japan it's 6980 yen for the same. At 100 yen to the dollar, that comes out roughly the same here.

So.... region lock is not dead :(

Really good games in both selections, hard to make a choice

Damn i want to import this for a showpiece.

Also, the controller size was to be expected. The Famicom had slots for the controllers to sit in. So you shrink the console you have to shrink the controllers too. Else it looks wrong. The NES gets away with a normal controller because the console is separate from it. So the console can be shrunk without needing to shrink the controller too.

Sucks there's no Dragon Quest on it. Also no SMB2j. I mean I know why, because SMB2j was originally disk system only, but still. It'll have 1 and 3 but no 2. Whereas us non-Japanese people will get 1, 2 and 3. Of course a different 2 but still. If only it had 2j because then it'd be a complete set.

They should totally release an add-on FDS later on. Then they can include SMB2j.

Hard wired controllers like the original sounds like a bad idea. I was hoping it would at least have that Wii plug at the end so I could use this controller with my Wi VC, but seeing as it's not even full size maybe not.
