Nintendo Comments On 3DS Error Screen

I dont think it's the game , i gotten this error while playing the AR games as well. But my WIFI was on.
i don't think it's JUST the game for everyone, but since most people with this error are playing Monkey Ball, Rayman or Ghost Recon, unless you honestly think those are the 3 most popular titles it wouldn't make sense if it was system specific.

if it was we'd see a lot more Pilotwings people having it.

Again there is one person who got this while using the photo mode. Something is really strange, anyways i formatted the SD card to FAT 32 and see whether it will reoccur again.

i understand people have been getting this using software built into the system, but you guys sound like a small minority of people experiencing it. you may have other issues, but right now i don't see any reason to presume that everyone getting these errors has the SAME issue and that it is related to their system.

not when most of us are only getting this error while playing three specific games.

Funny. I saw this screen on my DSi a few days ago. I was putting in Pokemon platinum for the first time in months and the system didnt see the cartridge. thats when it went nuts. I took it out, put it back in and didnt see it again.

Out of curiosity is this happening at all on JP systems? It was out a month earlier in Japan but so far I haven't seen any complaints but on day one for EU and NA this pops up. Although Ghost Recon hasn't been released there yet Monkey Ball came out shortly after launch.

Great now it's doing it while idling in the main menu, sigh, one final try is to disable the wifi.

Edit: Hmm seems to be the wifi, when I disabled it I dont have any issues. So far so good, can anyone else who have this issue try it out as well?

So it seems likely that the error involves wifi, one way or another. Now, the question is if it's because of a hardware or software failure. Would suck big time if it turns out that the wifi chips are prone to dying fast.

To be fair my wifi signal is pretty weak, it might due to a weak wifi signal, i dont think it's a hardware failure. Well I think :( Anyways I'll keep testing with wifi off for the time being, if other peeps can help me out test it , would be awesome.

We've been lucky. No 'error screens', and no wobbly hinge.

Turns out you want the wobbly hinge.

Someone on gbatemp forums spoke to a Nintendo rep.

The hinges are supposed to be like that to prevent hinge cracking. And that (apparently) the tighter hinged 3DS systems are actually more at risk.

Looking at some earlier posts it's definitely possible that a weak wifi signal, or even the signal being lost, could cause it. Hopefully that's the case and just something that Nintendo can fix with a firmware update.

So wobbly hinge is a good thing now.

Well tomorrow at work I'm gonna look at our demo unit and I might even open another 3DS just to see what's what. Of course I will report back.

I think I would prefer a cracked hinge over a wobbly screen. My DS Lite hinge is cracked and I never noticed it until I read about it. It's not noticable unless I specifically look for it and functionally it's a non-issue. The unit opens and closes as if it were new, while a wobbly top-half could be frequently annoying during play.

That's what I'm finding.

Well at least they're not falsely blaming unauthorised hardware modifications this time...

Also, anyone with persisting errors tried the old wives tales of format the SD card to FAT32...

Now for off-topic, kinda.

Chrono Trigger DS did :(

I have to order it online for a disgusting price premium now.

Drkirby said:
Yes, the disgusting price of $15.53, such a premium.

Shame they don't ship to...oh wait, I'll explain:

In Europe despite the game coming out 2 months later and it being the first ever European release of Chrono Trigger, Square-Enix decided to produce relatively few copies. Probably because it was overproduced it in America (as the stupid low price you can find lots of copies direction you look shows). I still find it odd that this decision was taken on Chrono Trigger (and Dragon Quest V...*cries*) given nearly everything Square-Enix puts out ends up the same. Vastly overproduced, sitting in bargain bins until the end of time...

I was playing SF4 online last night, and the whole thing locked up pretty bad.

I got it to shut off, then turned it back on. I started playing Ghost Recon, and a minute or two into the game, I got the BSOD.

I have been played a TON since I got the system @ midnight launch, and this was the only time it happened to me.

So what the fuck, I took back an apparently working unit?

Wobbly hinge is good?

That guy is trolling, right?

I don't know what to believe anymore.

I got my Lite December 2006 and it did have a slightly wobbly hinge right then.
It also finally developed a hinge crack just last September :(

Is the wobblyness even a factor in hinge cracking on Lites? Not to curse mine, but mine's always been wobbly, but it's not broken.

Stop reading these threads unless you yourself have the issue? Otherwise you're setting yourself up to simply look for something wrong when there's nothing that bothers you personally.

I read about the wobbly hinge thing a couple of hours after launch in the North American launch thread, and am just killing time between classes right now so that's why I'm in this one, but damn this is all very confusing.

I've never seen this Error Screen that some people have mentioned.. HOWEVER

I have had my 3DS freeze on me where I couldn't get it to do anything till I held the POWER button for a few secs to force it to shut off like a computer. This was on my first day of having it btw... hope it never happens again. I was in the middle of using the Nintendo 3DS sound program to play Mp3 and playing around with the filters and visualizer when it froze. I never had much use for the DS' for a music player so I won't be in there much again.

Never cracked a hinge with 5 variants of the DS and counting now. I think having a wobbly hinge would drive me insane over having to be careful with my $250 toy.

Crossing my fingers dude, I really like this 3DS I already have, really hope it's due to weak wifi signals.

Yeah it's not Wi-Fi for me, I got this error once a day or two ago in the photo app while tapping on a photo to view it. There was no Wi-Fi connection where I was at all. Haven't ever had it since, just that one isolated time. It's possible the firmware update fixed it (though I'm no 100% positive I had the error before the update).

I looked at the 3DS demo unit at work today. Hinge was perfectly rigid.

So I carefully opened up 3 3DS. One was acceptable, so I've put that to one side for myself for tomorrow. It has a little movement in the hinge, like my bro's DS Lite which is fine. The other two were very floppy indeed.

You don't have a cracked hinge, you have one that is in the process of cracking. When the hinge actually cracks, the top screen flops around, you can't get it to stay in it's normal position, and then, worst case scenario, the top screen disconnects from the bottom part of the system.

...and you're going to sell the other two you opened as brand new right? Remind me not to shop where you work.

Nah I'll reduce them or actually use the black one as a demo. Only got a blue one out as a demo.

I was looking at the 3D screen in the sun and saw what looked like the power off/ sleep menu. It was "behind" the home screen that was active. I only saw it when the sun was directly on the screen but I wanted to see if anyone else has seen that issue..
Edit* when not in the sunlight, the screen looks fine with no ghosting/burn in effect.

But did you have the wi-fi on the 3DS turned on or off?

Man what the hell is up with Dragon Quest V? IV is easy to fine but V is like coming across the ark of the covenant.

I'm thinking that there's "floppy" and "really floppy" with these units. "Floppy" would be considered normal, by Nintendo's standards, I think. I have what would probably be considered a "really floppy" unit.

Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRxiwHiqqoQ

It has a couple of other issues (extremely loose d-pad and shoulder buttons), so I have a replacement coming from Amazon, but I'll see what that one's like and determine which one to keep.

Just to add another report to the mix - Ghost Recon just crashed on me. I'm 99% sure it's due to the wireless. I was playing it on the subway to and from work today with the Wifi off, I got back to my apartment, turned the Wifi on, and it crashed less than 30 seconds later.

Great, thanks. It should be due to wireless for your case.

I've had this screen twice.

Once was after the connection failed in a SSF4 online match, the other was mid level in Monkey Ball (Wifi oni)

Weird... hopefully it's a software thing.

I may as well test out no wifi for this game.

Yes , that's great if possible feedback it here.

Try it with Wifi off for Monkey Ball if you have the chance.

The error message is too generic, if we can narrow it down for these particular cases at least we know what is causing it.

Yes, that is like mine.

Our demo unit has no wobble at all. Shame we chose that one as a blasted demo unit!

The one I checked from the box (which I am changing mine for today) has a slight wobble, just like my bro's DS Lite which I find acceptable.
