Gunstar Heroes this month! And this is the month were Squenix will finally recognize VC is a thing outside of Japan... I hope...

Based on previous patterns, I'm guessing 3D Gunstar Heroes will be released on the 13th......or if it gets a sudden delay again like Streets of Rage 2, the 20th.

Joy... There is yet another $0.10 game sale on the Wii U eShop. That Balloon game by the Treefall Studios (The Letter dev). That is just dumb. Racing to the bottom of the store is a bad way to go. Even worse, is that at $0.10, every DL during the sale, he OWES Nintendo $0.12. So Nintendo's cut is $0.22 of the sale for his current $0.10 game..

Should have done $0.25 instead..

I suspect this was posted in the July thread but Nindies@Home has finally made it to the Australian eShop. It is being done in batches of three games a week.
What? What are they going to do?
Super Mario RPG is coming to Japan. As you well know any first party title comes out in America just weeks later like Metroid Zero suit and Golden Pun the lost sage show /s

Oh, bummer. My dream of ever getting FF Adventure on VC will never come true I guess since the OG GB VC is most likely dead anyway.

Has anyone here used an Hori Gamecube Pad on his/her Wii U? Been looking into one since I can't afford adapter + original.

I got Rabbids Travel in Time on sale and really enjoyed playing through it.

The sale ends tomorrow and I haven't decided if there's anything else I want to get. :(

Donkey Kong™ Jungle Climber – €9.99 / £8.99
Already asked it in the other thread but didn't get an answer: do gamepad buttons and D-pad work in the "touchscreen" display mode of DS VC emulation?

Wii-U-DS-Virtual-Console-Configuration-700x350.jpg

Image is rotated on the gamepad in this display mode, but not on the TV, the DS screens are on top of each others but without the DS border that'll burn my TV and take up space.

So, can you play Jungle Climber on the TV like this? Or is the DS border mandatory? Because if you can't play without the border, it's a no buy.

I wonder how you'd even play a game like Jungle Climber on Wii U. I mean, ordinarily you need to see both screens to play it and it's hard for me to picture both fitting comfortably and correctly on the TV screen. Then if you were to play on the GamePad with the screens side by side that wouldn't work at all since it's a game where the top screen has to be above the bottom screen. But in the vertical alignment you posted, in playing on the GP you wouldn't have access to the L/R buttons to control DK's climbing. So I'm trying to wrap my head around that (and I suppose for any non-touchscreen game I'm not sure how the vertical alignment would work).

I do agree that regardless you should be able to get rid of the border. It's a mental jump to get around when playing on a DS but there's no reason it should be maintained for VC. I imagine it would feel particularly cumbersome for this and for Yoshi's Island DS.

@maxcriden: the vertical layout on the TV would actually work fine for me if it didn't have the DS border like the default layout:

dk-jungle-climber-wii-u-656x369.jpg

That'll burn the screen and it takes too much space, but remove it and fill the screen, and I'm good to go. The touch screen mode is actually like this on the TV, but I need to know if it disables buttons or not.

Oh, I didn't even think of screen burn. Good point. Hmm. I didn't even realize JC had a touch screen control mode.

(Any clue how one would play the game in vertical mode on the GP alone, given the button layout?)

P.S. if you've never played the game, good luck. It's very clever in points but IMO obscenely hard, especially as you get to the end. I couldn't beat the final boss and didn't even bother with trying to get or play the bonus levels.

Also he's using the entire total amount of N64 games on the Xbox One, but only comparing them to the amount of N64 games on the Wii U shop. When there's a ton more using Wii Mode that are completely playable on the Wii U.

Oh man, the 13th? Glad it gives me time to work on getting some funds, but man, I have a feeling that's gonna be the same day as 3D Gunstar Heroes.

& $15 seems to be confirmed as well. So if you got the demo during E3, that'll give you a 15% discount, making it $12.75, or $2.25 off.

The "Vertical Screens" layout doesn't disable buttons, but it does rotate the d-pad 90 degrees to match the screen on the gamepad. The Pro Controller is completely disabled so you can't use that either. I don't have any DS VC that needs the screens to both be visible so I've just been using "Upper Screen on TV" for TV play and "Upper Screen Focus" or "Touch Screen Focus" for off-TV play.

If you're using an LCD screen, the risk of burn in is essentially non-existent. Besides, black bars are actually worse for LCD screens than the DS border anyway. The neutral color of an LCD screen is white, not black. Even if you do somehow manage to get burn-in to happen on an LCD screen, it's usually fixable.

So do we know nothing coming out this week in North America, or am I crazy?

The only games that have dates of this week on nintendo.com are Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 and Freedom Planet, which needs 10 days added.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of focus on the Splatoon update. We may also get a week sometime this month where Mario Maker preload goes up and not much else.
