Nintendo Downloads - May 2015

I find it interesting that Konami is releasing its classic games on JP eShop.

Speaking of which, the 3DS eShop doesn't have a download list like what PSN does right?

Let's play it together!

Sorry - I decided to go with the Bayonetta games for now. SSB is a bit of a risk for me, so I'm going to grab a used copy at some point. That way, I can trade it if it's not my thing.

I'll try and remember to give you a holler if I managed to get it at some point in the future.

Aaaaaannnd the new Pushmo game was downgraded to 30 fps for no apparent reason whatsoever. Deleted!

more graphical effects going on.

->

Fallblox/Crashmo switched the framerate to 30 fps for levels that were wide in scope with massive structures and larger playing fields.

Just downloading this new game now, but nothing in the trailer makes it seem like Intelligent Systems should lock it to 30fps everywhere on the older hardware.

Edit: Just started playing the new game -- compared first stage side by side. There's more going on in this (more clouds in the background, a whale-shaped balloon, more objects around the playing field.

My guess is Intelligent System targeted 60fps on N3DS with the extra power, and regular 3DS was probably only going between 30 and 60. Since an unlocked framerate would result in stuttering they probably went for 30. Big shame, it just doesn't feel as fluid, but on the other hand it's nice to see them target the more powerful hardware for once.

So ...there is your reason. :)

it is good to know that games can be programmed to take advantage of the N3DS specs

looking forward to more 60fps games in the future!

it is good to have more evidence then! :p

wait what did Smash do differently? I thought it was just the not having to restart the system thing

Yes, and its extra RAM lets Smash run normally so you could access Miiverse, etc. Old 3DS has all of that turned off, hence the forced reboot.

oh yeah. I wasn't counting that since I was just thinking of in-game effects due to the N3DS. anyhoo.

The New 3DS has the same GPU as the Old 3DS, so if it's 60 fps on the New 3DS the graphical effects shouldn't matter. The only reason they would have to downgrade the old 3DS version's framerate is if its CPU couldn't handle the new gameplay mechanics (like moving enemies, rotatable stages etc.) at 60 fps. Which is really sad if you think about it.

So what is the chance we see Mystical Ninja on N64 vc?
From what I recall, there was some issue with games that required the Memory Pak or whatever in order to save. Hopefully it's fixed now, as I remember playing the two N64 games more (especially the giant robot battles) and would rebuy them if they were added.

No, it's way better. It lists everything you own that's not currently downloaded to the system right now.
Oh yeah, I forgot that detail. And it also doesn't go back to the top of the list every time you download something. I guess it is a little better, but there's still no sort or search feature, and it's slower to scroll through the titles (especially since they're separated into pages).

NSMB is unfairly maligned for playing it too safe, I think. It's still a damn good platformer that's definitely worth your time.

I hated how they hid the secret areas. There are still 1 or 2 that I've never unlocked.

I remember being in love with that game when it released. I was dying for some 2D platforming fun. Nowadays, they're a dime a design and it wouldn't have had the same impact these days.

Journey of a Special Average Balloon by Treefall Studios (Maze, The Letter) launching Next Thursday, the 21st. NA.

"special average?"

I mean, that kind of stuff was already played out in the 1990s (Boo, the "miniature giant" space hamster), and they're 15 years late to that.

I know people have criticised me for passing on games by name alone in the past...
But, seriously, a name like that guarantees I wouldn't even be looking at it.

If there's Memory Pak support I'd say pretty good but we still don't know.

Even if not you can save-state or suspend N64 games now, which you couldn't on Wii, so I'd say it's a non-zero figure either way.

Interesting, then permit me to ask:
Does anyone here still have the Megaman Legends 3 demo in their download list?
If so are you still able to download and play it?

I recall there being a demo for it.

There isn't. They cancelled it just before it released.

And now NSMB is listed at $9.99.

Why'd they give the range again?

I was wondering why it was $8 when previously released, lower quality (in terms of brand name) titles are $10. I bet hardly anything will be $8, except for stuff like Brain Age (Europe and Japan got it for free).

Yup, today is Battle Network 3 (both versions) & New Super Mario Bros. on DS....oh, & 3D Thunder Blade.

I wonder when NSMB Wii will get re-released. Also can't wait for the new Pushmo game (think it'll be called Stretchmo, based on the thread) to come here.

Odd that it suddenly pops up in EU and the NA PR mentions the Pushmo theme but no mention of Stretchmo. I wonder if they'll drop it later today out of nowhere or if they're making us wait til E3.

Nooooooooooooooooooo, EU gets the new Pushmo game but not NA?!

Hmm, hoping the Capcom eShop sale will include VC titles.

Also yeesss, Sega finally releasing 3DS themes. Now release those hardware ones on the Saturn, Dreamcast, & such.

So no Stretchmo for us NA plebs this week? :(

Wait 2.5 more hours...

We didn't know we were getting this today until after it was out.

Crashmo came out a week later in NA but Pushmo World came out everywhere at the same time.

Thunder Blade is intriguing, wonder if it is any good.
I'm sure people will post their opinions in the 3D Classics OT, so perhaps keep an eye on that.

I only played the one that was on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, but from what I understand, that one was based on the Genesis one while the 3D Classics version is more on the arcade, so I don't know if my opinion of the one I played can transfer over to the one coming out today.

Can someone compile a list of what games Konami has put on the Japanese Wii (U) VC please?

Also as I don't have a Wii U YET, I take it it doesn't function like a PS3/PS4 hwere you can have multi region accounts right?

There isn't. They cancelled it just before it released.

You sure? I could've sworn there was a prototype at least put on the 3DS eShop?

No, you cannot. You'd have to import a Wii U from Japan in order to access the Japanese eShop.

As for games Konami has on the Japanese VC but not in the US:

NES/Famicom:

- Twinbee
- Princess Tomato of the Salad Land
- Antarctic Adventure
- Ganbare Goemon! Karakuri Dōchū
- Yie Ar Kung-Fu
- Nuts & Milk
- Ganbare Goemon 2
- Getsu Fūma Den

SNES/Super Famicom:

- Ganbare Goemon 2: Kiteretsu Shōgun Magginesu
- Ganbare Goemon 3: Shishijūrokubē no Karakuri Manji Gatame
- Pop'n TwinBee
- TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventure

& then ALL the MSX games (we don't have it here) and the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 stuff since we also don't have that.

Pretty sure that list is correct. Might have missed one or two, but I compared Wiki lists.
