you can buy and download DLC on the eShop without owning the game. they just ask you to check a box that you do own the game and aren't stupidly buying something thinking you can play it by itself (which is irrelevant if you know you'll get the game later anyway).

I got Wii VC Majora's Mask from Club Nintendo, and I've been sitting on it for more than a year waiting for it to show up on Wii U so I can play it with the gamepad. It's super frustrating that they've now re-released literally every single Zelda on Wii U except that one. And I just know it's because some dumb person thinks it would interfere with sales of the nearly 2 year old 3DS remake.

If the demo performance didn't bother you then go for it!

If you were fine with the performance, then go for it. I think it works better as a "pick-up-&-play" style game where you do a mission or two, then put it in sleep mode. Also works better as a game that you play while watching TV or listening to a podcast or something.

.....also I need to start my copy again so I can get the new content that came out. Shame Linebeck wasn't one of them, would've loved to see him figure out a way to make the boat just put around on the ground, attacking enemies. But I'll gladly take USING THE SPIRIT TRACKS TRAIN FOR SPECIALS.

Currently playing Etrian Odyssey IV which I like a lot, but consider putting on the bench after 12 hours, because I will never make it to the end and there are toooons of RPGs that I still want to play (Fire Emblem, Bravely Default etc.) and Ace Attorney Trilogy. On the fourth case of the first game right now. So, I don't quite enjoy the investigation as much but OH MY GOD... is the hype and friggin soundtrack/sound effects during the court room scenes the best thing ever? Oh, sir, I think so! =)

Also bought Puzzle and Dragons Z: Mario Edition, which brings me to today's question... Started with Z, but it seems rather shallow and lifeless as a whole... should I just switch to Mario, enjoy its quirkiness or whatever and move on? Not sure I want to invest 20 hours into each. Also want to be done with it before the 16th, jumping into Dragon Quest VII then.

Man, coming to a console on its tale's end is a blessing and a curse haha

The Mario version is the introductory one that's supposed to "get you into it" before you touch Z. Haven't played it myself though, so second hand info.

I honestly preferred Mario Edition in P&D since there was characters with dual elements & it didn't feel as slow. It also helps it's meant to be the more friendly of the two to ease you into learning the mechanics, even if at times there's some difficulty spikes.

Admittedly I'm only on continent two of Z, but so far is was just a breeze. Maybe I will just wait for the difficulty to set in to force me to consider the systems that game might offer. Hopefully this isn't a case of the game being a breeze and telling me "...but end game content!"

I just bought a New 3DS, finally! I've been rocking the Day 1 Ambassador 3DS for a while now and I finally decided to upgrade when I saw that Mario small one (don't like the resolution problems with XLs).

I'm really stoked, but I feel like I've seen a lot of horror stories about eShop transfers and save file stuff. Are there any easy-to-miss steps I need to take to make sure I can transfer over all my digital purchases and save files?

I couldn't stand Puzzle and Dragons Z (more like zzz amirite?) and much preferred the Mario version. Yeah it has less enemies & companions, the music is recycled but there is no filler, it is all action. Some secret exits can be frustrating and I think it is generally considered that the Mario side is tougher but should be shorter due to lack of story.

Read the system settings manual sections of system transfer to better understand the process then come back if you find anything unclear.

Anyhow, I've been playing a bunch of random eShop games recently in-between bouts of Hyrule Warriors, and thought I'd give some opinions of them here.

Nano Assault EX: It's a Shin'en game, which means the style is generic as hell but extremely impressive from a technical standpoint. The twin-stick shooter gameplay is really fun, but the game weirdly gets easier the further you get in Story Mode as your better weapons and bonus lives quickly make the difficulty trivial. The real challenge clearly lies in achieving various goals in Arcade Mode though, so it's all good.

FAST Racing Neo: For some reason this didn't click with me when I first bought it and I put it down pretty fast, but after getting back into it I'm loving it. Guess I just wasn't in the mood at the time. It's not the F-Zero clone everyone wishes it was, but it does its own thing really well. And unlike Nano Assault Neo, the game is hard right from the get-go and doesn't let up. Looking forward to the DLC expansion on the 30th.

Futuridium EP Deluxe: Won a copy of this in a maxcriden giveaway. I gave it a try but I don't really "get" it. It's like a space rail shooter but with stiff controls and stationary targets instead of enemies?... It looks great though. I'll give it another chance when the New 3DS port releases, maybe I'll like it more on a handheld.

psyscrolr: Another game won ages ago on GAF, from the developer himself, no less... which makes it all the more awkward to have to say that this game is really bad. I had to put it down at World 1-2. The controls are KI: Uprising levels of uncomfortable, the hit detection and physics are wonky, the enemies are cheaply placed, and the platforming and combat in general are just not fun. I doubt anyone was considering this one, but just in case you were... avoid.

Tadpole Treble: Despite some issues with freezing, I managed to complete the game. As a rhythm game fan I expected to love it, but unfortunately aside from the first level/main theme and the Midnight Bayou love song, most of the music just sort of blended together for me. The gameplay is pretty good though, with a decent challenge on offer if you attempt to go for every medal, and the extras you get for doing so are pretty neat (developer commentary is always a plus, but I would have never expected to see it in a game like this!). The one big negative is the level creator, which has no online component and asks you to share through QR codes - except you can't post screenshots to Miiverse because of potential camera shenanigans, so it's basically pointless.

Also! According to Nintendo Life, Mastiff has confirmed that Gurumin will cost $15 and come with a free theme. Also, it will (unsurprisingly) release either at the end of September or early October... really stretching the definition of "summer" there fellas.

Apparently the specific theme to be given away hasn't been decided yet, but there are 5 potential options to view at the link with the rest being released as paid themes at launch.
