I would love the art style for Zelda U to be really fantasy heavy kinda like Trine 2 but of course retaining that Zelda charm

Take out the creature, replace main character with Link.

I'd be very surprised if SMTxFE is not turn based. Stranger things have happened though, I guess.

And a good Zelda game would be welcome. Ditching the hand holding and bumping up the difficulty would definitely pique my interest, and I'm not even a Zelda fan (because I find them boring, in large part due to the aforementioned problems).

Personally I can't for the life of me get why they refuse to have a difficulty selection, like any other game. One difficulty does not fit all players.
If they reveal that "Hero Mode" is present from the beginning in this new one I'll jump for joy. However, I don't think it would be very practical for them to create harder puzzles on different difficulty settings. I'd rather they just keep doing what they did in the OoT-like Zelda games. Other than WW and MM, those games had a solid difficulty curve.

ALBW is pretty easy, but it takes out handholding and post game hero mode playthroughs are legitimately challenging

Speaking of challenging Zelda, I just started Zelda 2, and although Im having a difficult time with the game, its been a blast and I definitely think there are things from it that can be implemented into Zelda today. Such as the predictions AI is able to pull off, and jus the combat in general

Haven't even made it to the infamous 2nd dungeon Death Mountain difficult spike >_>

I would rank my top 5 favorite Zelda artstyles as:
SS
TWW
OoT
MM
The games set in the ALttP era

The only way they can screw up the Zelda reveal is if it's shown to be a top down game( The"Celda" backlash would be child's play compared to that) I don't think that will ever happen, but it's Nintendo. They're prone to doing odd things.

Given what they want to do with Zelda graphically I doubt they would go with a top down game.

They could at least have higher difficulty on the combat pretty easily. More and harder enemies.

Agreed, which is why I used it as an example. It's one of the most extreme/unlikely E3 faux pas they could possibly make.

I meant to say that I don't believe those two games have good difficulty curves. I feel that MM is very uneven past the first dungeon, and WW is pretty simple through out.

They could at least have higher difficulty on the combat pretty easily. More and harder enemies.
Agreed.

I'll be honest: that's exactly what I'm afraid of.

I don't think it'll happen, but you never know.

The more I think about it, the more excited I get. WiiU needs big showstoppers and they've been awfully quiet lately. Surely megaton stuff is brewing behind closed doors at the big N.

Er... I didn't say I found either series boring. I'm talking about turn-based combat, specifically.

I'd appreciate it if you took the time to read what I say.

I read your posts. I guess I'm having a difficult time reasoning how you can enjoy either series when you think the core gameplay is mostly made up of the "tedium and monotony of clicking through menus" or why you're hoping for a crossover to ditch the mechanic that has defined both series for over two decades.

Take out the creature, replace main character with Link.

I can definitely imagine an environment like that in a Zelda game, but I hope the art style won't be close to X's(or the 2012 tech demo's). I want to be surprised when it comes to the visual direction of WiiU's Zelda.

My expectations:
-Ridley in Smash. They've been building up to it. Sakurai knows Ridley is by far the most fan-requested characters besides maybe Megaman (already in) and Mewtwo (likely secret if he's in due to how many Pokemon characters have been revealed). He's gonna reveal him.
-Pokken Fighters reveal. There's been only one Wii U Pokemon title, and it's a download game. Plus, this is a spin-off that could actually really work, especially if it actually is a collaboration with the guys behind Tekken.
-Zelda Wii U. It'll be shown.
-Metroid/F-Zero/Starfox/Earthbound. I don't know if it'll be something big. It could even just be a remake or re-release (hell, in the off chance it's Earthbound, it definitely would be a re-release). But they gotta pull one of these out.
-Majora's Mask 3D. Grezzo hasn't been working on much recently, and Nintendo's been hinting at it.
-New Mario title or DLC. Party, Sports, RPG, Paper, or DLC for Kart or 3D World. It's gonna happen. Probably my safest bet here.
-Super Smash Bros for 3DS release date, and a release month (November or December) announced for Smash Wii U. They really do NOT want it slipping into 2015.

I actually consider these expectations fairly low. I mean, shit, Zelda Wii U's been confirmed to be shown, MM3D has been hinted at, Smash Bros is confirmed to be there, and Pokken Fighters has been teased. Only two of these are total guesses, and neither of them are unreasonable. Hopefully they're surpassed.

My expectations: Zelda, heavy 3DS focus.

My dreams: Metroid!

Seriously though, the rest of the year is looking light on the 3DS.

I'm guessing the next Zelda game will use the same engine being used for Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8. It seems like they have it tuned to the nuts for Wii U and it should provide all the graphical bells and whistles people are hoping for, especially if they target 30FPS.

I want a release date for X, trailer for Fire Emblem x SMT and to finish the show with super hype via Zelda U reveal.

That would make me very happy with the Wii U, 3DS is already stacked so i hope they aren't putting to much focus on it.

Realistically, I'm just going to be patient and wait to see what Nintendo has to show for their upcoming E3 Press Conference. I think it's better that way, rather than making wild predictions & ultimately setting up myself for disappointment if some of the things that I'm really excited to see won't happen.

Anyone else feel the same?

Skyward Sword unveil was terrible and boring. When the game came out, I enjoyed it enough but it is probably my least favorite 3D Zelda and I had a lot of issues with it. I would like to see the "Dark Souls" of Zelda games unveiled this year but I'm really not counting on it. Time will tell.

I would love to see a new Mario game that was more in the style of Super Mario 64 but I also don't see that happen. Do hope to see a new 3D Mario title though that is a bigger project then Super Mario 3D World but as others have stated, it might be to soon for that.

Nintendo has a lot of franchises that have been neglected lately. Star Fox is the big one I want to see at E3. It's been a long time since we had a console Star Fox so I'm not holding out faith for one. Not to mention Star Fox Assault was pretty terrible.

Yoshi's Epic Yarn or whatever it ends up being called is another one I was really excited for when it was unveiled like over a year ago and fell off the planet. Do hope that one is still coming out and hopefully by years end.

I don't expect much from this E3 from Nintendo. It will be big on Smash Brothers, they will still talk about Mario Kart even though it will have been released by then. You will see a quick clip of the next Zelda. If we are lucky it will be a better reveal then Skyward Sword and I'm really hoping for a darker tone again personally. Beyond that you will see Yoshi's Epic Yarn most likely, a couple other previous announced titles and maybe one or two new ones. MAYBE! But that will likely be it.

Everyone, really.

But eventually everyone breaks down and the madness of Nintendo hype will get to us.

Zelda U
Combat has been overhauled, a lot of similarities to a character action games like DMC.
Brutally difficult, with mind melting puzzles to match, with an easy mode available for those that need it.
Large open world, with secrets scattered all over, optional mini dungeons that have actual rewards (power ups, optional items etc).
Optional online dungeons to play with two people. Puzzles require both players.
Large scale epic story, with top notch voice acting (Link remains silent).
Releasing holiday 2014

damn right Zelda 2 the OG ball buster, although I would love to see Zelda return to that kind of difficulty I doubt Nintendo would forsake the casuals and kids best we can hope for is hero mode available from the beginning

First off, FE isn't a traditional turn-based JRPG, nor does it really play like one. Secondly, I don't expect either of them to change their gameplay formats. But this is a crossover and not a traditional entry in either series; the resulting game doesn't need to adhere to either series' conventions. I don't think I'm asking for anything outlandish here. :/

I was bored so I watched all of Nintendo's 2010 conference (except the Just Dance/Epic Mickey stuff) and I was blown away how everything was coming out soon after announced.

Epic Yarn, Goldeneye, Metroid Other M, etc. Everything announced was coming out within 6 months.

Hopefully something similar to that this year.

If history has taught us anything about Nintendo is that they are at their best when their back is against the wall. Right now their back is against the wall.

Personally I think Nintendo is gonna be the big surprise from E3 this year. We all know Microsoft will once again focus on the games in an attempt to undo the awful mess that was the Xbox One announcement event while also trying to push Kinect 2 as if anyone is still interested. Sony will keep doing what they have been doing and will also toss the Vita a small bone with some more ports and a few digital goodies. The rest of the third parties will no doubt trot out their big franchises showcasing how powerful the new hardware is yet will keep on releasing titles on the 360/PS3.

People don't really seem to be expecting much from Nintendo these days and after they announced that there would be doing a digital show again many are assuming that there isn't much Nintendo has to show.

I'm expecting them to come out swinging this year to be honest. Nintendo seems content to try to do their own thing and I wouldn't be surprised if in the next few years we see more companies doing a digital show over the standard press conference.

1.) Fully expecting to get the final release date for both Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Wii-U. This is the time to announce that and with Nintendo also hosting a Smash Bros. tournament I think it's pretty safe to assume Smash Bros. will play a big part in Nintendo's show.

2.) Retro's next big title will be announced and it will be a big one. With the recruitment they've done over the past few years and secretive they've been about this I'm fairly certain they are working on a known Nintendo IP. It's a toss up between Metroid, Star Fox, or a full 3D Donkey Kong platformer. Whatever it is this thing is gonna showcase what the Wii-U can do and I wouldn't be surprised if they've built an engine Nintendo intends to use with its other titles.

3.) There will be a slew of third party studios working on Nintendo IPs much like Tecmo Koei working on Hyrule Heroes. I wouldn't be surprised to see F-Zero, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Metroid, and others show up here they aren't being worked on by first party studios. I think the big surprise here (going out on a limb to make a big bold prediction) will be that Square Enix is working on a new Super Mario RPG.

4.) The Legend of Zelda will be the show closer with a great trailer that showcases the return of a fully open world that allows the player to explore dungeons in any order they want but the world will be huge this time around. There will be a full voice cast for the game but Link will be mute. Supports either standard controller or motion controls, you decide how you play.

5.) Price cut for the Wii-U at $50 and all SKUs will come with Nintendoland now.

6.) Advance Wars returns to the 3DS!

7.) 3DS redesign.

8.) eShop cross functionality between 3DS and Wii-U coming soon, once you purchase a game you're free to move it between the 3DS and Wii-U as you see fit.

9.) Nintendo will finally pry open their back catalog of games and start releasing regular bursts of titles once the 3DS/Wii-U cross buy system launches towards the end of the year.

10.) The next platforming Mario title will be teased but nothing will be confirmed about it other than it is coming. It will be Galaxy 3 and it will be bound for the Wii-U in early 2015.

Maybe not the right venue but I want to see some serious Virtual Console support. Announce an N64 lineup for Wii U or better yet a GameCube lineup.

The problem is Nintendo has been giving us info on what we can expect from E3 for a long time now. Between Nintendo Directs and Iwata' investor speeches, Nintendo has made frequent announcements. Quite frankly ,it's the 3DS that still should have a few surprises left. Last year's E3 should serve as a was a history lesson.

Retro Studios isn't going to announce anything. We thought we'd hear from them at E3 2011 and 2012, but it didn't happen, so it seems fairly unreasonable to expect anything from them this soon after DKC:TF came out. I' m not sure if we can expect any more collaboration announcements since Nintendo already has several of them on the table as it is (but keep those fingers crossed anyway). Nintendo just announced new Mario Kart bundles and additional incentive if you buy the game separately , so there is not going to do another price cut. The reason they crammed all those extra accessories with the Mario Kart bundle is so they don't have to lower the price. Iwata said in his speech earlier this year that they want to try not to resort to another price cut because they'll continue selling the console at a loss. The Mario Kart bundle only seems to validate Nintendo's reliance on it as a hopeful evergreen system- seller. If MK fails to pick up Wii U sales and keep them up, then Nintendo's officially in panic, panic mode.

Oh, I didn't know you were differentiating between different types of turn based styles. I totally agree with you then.

Ought to be developed by Platinum too, right?
I've never play'd Dark Souls, but going by an LP I watched it doesn't seem anything like a traditional Zelda game(2D or 3D). I kind of don't ever want to try the series out because of the annoying arguments surrounding it and Zelda. It becomes a little ridiculous sometimes.

I'm in the camp that thinks there are so many games already hanging out there that expecting a ton announcements seems unwise, at least for the Wii U. Here's a list for people who aren't crazy.

We know the following unreleased games will be there:

NFC game (Confirmed by Iwata)
Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS (Confirmed in E3 press release, well the Wii U version at least)
Zelda Wii U (Confirmed by Aonuma)

The following games have been announced, but will not be out before E3:

Art Academy Wii U
Bayonetta 2
Fatal Frame
Hyrule Warriors
Pikachu detective game
SMT X Fire Emblem
X
Yarn Yoshi

Nintendo also has several games that have been revealed through trademark listings:

Pokken
S.T.E.A.M. Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace
The plethora of "Advance" trademarks, but that could be some sort of service

Further, sources of varying dubiousness have hinted at/stated the following:

Human Head Studios game (Superannuation, could have been cancelled)
A "bloody" game, probably Devil's Third (French guy on twitter, probably complete bullshit)
"Top-secret game" from Next Level Games (lead designer's linked-in)

Nintendo has also dropped bizarre hints at the following:

Majora's Mask (Soundtrack was a Club Nintendo prize, mask in ALBW, Aonuma cryptically stating,"Tell them I laughed," when asked about a MM remake)
Metroid (Reggie's pin during VGX, damage control video put out during E3 after people complained about Retro making FUCKING Donkey Kong, Samus appears prominently in the Tomodachi Life Nintendo Direct)

There's also a glut of third party 3DS games that Nintendo could publish to fill gaps overseas, but I won't list those.

I'm excited to possibly hear about Devils Third & what Human Head Studios are working on.

I'm all about some Nintendo core surprises thus E3.

...hope we get some.
