I still think a new Metroid is better than 50/50 and I'm basing that entirely on Reggie wearing the Samus pin at the GT awards back in December '13. That kind of stuff just doesn't happen by chance! 2D or 3D doesn't matter to me since I love both styles, but I do want it on Wii U.

After Iwatas looking at a banana and now the flirting with Samus (goddamn how that sounds^^) I'm inclined to agree.

Im thinking we will see either Metroid or Star Fox and Im basing it on this

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/06/miyamoto-discusses-metroid-on-wii-u

"With Metroid it's very easy to imagine some interesting implementation for Wii U," Miyamoto mentioned. "I think that having another screen with the gyro built in really gives you a lot of interesting opportunities for development, and we can bring a lot of our games to life in a completely unique way with that."

"I feel like the possibilities of the GamePad for Metroid could be really fantastic," Miyamoto told me at a different point in our conversation. "There's certainly a lot that you could do there for that game."

Yet the one that Miyamoto really wants to see? The Nintendo executive didn't give any details, but noted that "personally" the franchise he wants most on Wii U is Star Fox. Here's hoping one day Miyamoto's wish - alongside millions of Nintendo fans - is realized on the HD system.

REggie was pulling all of the punches in that show

Reggie just kind of came out of no where(For me at least.). His confidence and, dare I say, charisma really shined through in that conference. I think he's still got it, but the last two E3s he hosted have been pretty lack luster as far as presentation goes.
I kind of hope he is front and center in the digital event stream. Iwata is great, but his broken English is sometimes detrimental to the pacing and accessibility of these videos.

So we're doing the "Wii U needs to be replaced ASAP" thing now? How long before the anti-Iwata revolutionaries storm the thread?

I don't want to derail the thread any further so this is the last post I will make on this matter but....

The WiiU has caused Nintendo to lose about half a billion dollars in operating income over the last two years. Their market share is nearing non-existent in home consoles and dedicated handhelds is a business sector with ever nearing expiration date.

The "WiiU needs to be replaced ASAP thing" is the only logical and sane thing the good people at Nintendo are thinking about. Anything else is folly.

As for Iwata, he's a super nice guy. I like him. Those Nintendo Directs are Great stuff.

He got the impact of mobile wrong, he got online infrastructure wrong, he got the impact of HD development costs/timing wrong, he has launched his last two pieces of hardware at inflated prices with barren software lineups which caused dented hype and slow hardware sales.

On the 3DS he has been able to correct some of these issues, mainly because Japan is still very into handhelds for the time being, but you are deluding yourself if you think Iwata's leadership/initial instincts have been a good thing for Nintendo in the last 5 or 6 years.

I hope their plans include Dragon Quest localizations. That's pretty much all I am hoping for.

Pretty much this. I really thing that if we don't see at least a token mention during E3 we might be seeing the end of any potential releases of DQ, at least until next gen.

WiiU is selling at half the rate of the Dreamcast. It's dead. No amount of software will make it profitable for Nintendo. They could have Kart, Smash, Zelda, and Metroid all this year and it would only give the system a minor uptick in sales.
They aren't going to sit on it for 3 more years I promise you because it is killing their bottom line.
They always launch consoles in the holidays.
It isn't happening this holiday and if they aren't going to sit on it for 3 more years they then it must be launching next holiday.
Couple that with the rumors we heard about new hardware from IGN, Videogamer, etc...
Yeah, WiiU is done and its successor is on the way sooner than you think. The idea that the two consoles might share games isn't out there as it has happened before with Twilight Princess.
So yeah, I do think that this is what is going to happen.
I think Nintendo's E3 is going to be rather mundane when it comes to new unknown content for the WiiU. I really hope I'm wrong but I don't think so.
3DS will probably have more new stuff to announce by a healthy margin.

Interesting. Do you think this hypothetical next-year console will be a contemporary with the PS4/XOne in terms of power?
EDIT: Nvm if you're done talking about it.

Next Level should be back on their WiiU game, actually.

Either way, I think Zelda is going to be at this year's E3 and next year's E3. We may or may not see game play this year, but there'll definitely be a showroom floor demo next E3.

Since Nintendo doesn't watch to touch F-Zero, hopefully we at least finally see Fast Racing Neo. "Soon" is getting to be a long time.

I bet Nintendo embraces the F2P model with open arms and I bet they have the good taste to do it right with payment models that offer clear value and are not designed in a shitty and sinister way.

Animal Crossing is ripe for it. Animal Crossing F2P on WiiU would be encouraging.

F-Zero or Wave Race are also well designed for it if the online play is there.

EDIT: Mario Golf/Tennis would also work well with F2P.

I think Sub Wars and Wii Sports Club were little test runs in the pay as you go model for Nintendo and they will jump right into at this E3 or next.

I also think Nintendo has the good taste to know what games are good with F2P and which are definitely not.

Just don't fuck up Zelda or its reveal. That's all I ask Nintendo.
The only way they can screw up the Zelda reveal is if it's shown to be a top down game( The"Celda" backlash would be child's play compared to that) I don't think that will ever happen, but it's Nintendo. They're prone to doing odd things.

I don't think its top down, but I think it will build on ideas from albw in other ways, like non linear dungeons and more twists to the formula.

I really hope they do something interesting with SMT x FE. Another bland, boring turn-based battle system would completely turn me off from it.

Atlus is developing the game, not Intellgient Systems, if that helps or makes things worse

And not all turn based is "bland and boring"

Going by what they've been saying I'm sure that'll be the case. They're usually pretty good at taking the best ideas from past games, and revitalizing them. Personally, I'm kind of hoping they don't take too much inspiration from ALBW. It was a fun game, but I wasn't a huge fan of the simplistic dungeon/puzzle design(Which I blame on the whole non-linear overworld/item shop deal).

Im thinking the art style of Zelda will be similar to Zelda HD experience. Nintendo needs it to sell, and that art style got so great reception they can't afford to go with an experimental one.

It's time for a new Star Fox

Miyamoto has expressed his feelings towards wanting one on the Wii U. I think itd be a fun use of the second screen, and the Wii U really needs these AAA games that give a great two screen solo experience.

Itd be neat to see something like fox's ships control panel, with whatever they come up with, on the gamepad. As well as his companions chiming in on the gamepad, to give a little boost of immersion hearing a seperate audio from the TV.

Oh, and use the fur tech from DKTF!

I'm thinkin' we'll see Metroid in some form or another, which makes me excited. I don't think it'll be Retro working on it, though, which makes me worried.

My personal hope when it comes to Zelda is that they don't use the art style from the HD demo thing. I get that the fidelity was nice, but the actual style left something to be desired, in my opinion. I was never a big fan of the TP art style.

Personally I can't for the life of me get why they refuse to have a difficulty selection, like any other game. One difficulty does not fit all players.

Aonuma hinted at tougher difficulty and no hand holding iirc so that gives me hope

It's amazing that in about a month we will finally witness a truly high-fidelty Zelda game.

I would love the art style for Zelda U to be really fantasy heavy kinda like Trine 2 but of course retaining that Zelda charm

On a personal level, I'm going to argue that they are. I'm sorta tired of being afflicted with the tedium and monotony of mindlessly clicking through menus, and all the other things that bother me that are inherent within that specific sub-genre now. I'd rather spend my money on games that do more/something different.

Why are you interested in a crossover between two series you find boring to begin with?
