Nintendo E3 plans detailed

1) say nothing

2) let fans build hype. Fantasising about Prime 4, GTA on Switch and Nintendo releasing Switch 2 with Scorpio specs

3) reveal a mediocre set of titles and content as if it was the second coming

This is how I feel Nintendo works now. They don't really have much to offer except their staples and the odd new thing like splatoon. They can't really get any hype from third parties or value offerings (they need every cent they can get). So they will market the shit outta what they have and hope it sticks, which anecdotally it seems to be doing with Switch so I expect it to continue.

4. Change the defending narrative for yet another thin Nintendo lineup from "duh, at least wait for E3" to "duh, E3 is not important, wait for the next Direct and keep playing Mario Kart".
Among other things I expect that an uncomfortable amount of time will be wasted on Skyrim. You'd think they had 3rd parties on board for a handheld, but if so, they would have shown much more than a pre-development Suda "game" during the pre-launch conference.

I just want a couple (good) Platinum exclusives and thats all. So far the Switch lineup feels less impressive to me than the Wii U announcements and thats weird :/

Aren't people embarrassed to post crap like this?

I'm not expecting a ton of surprises.

Things that would make me super happy

- smash and/or Mario maker ports

- GameCube games available now or soonish. It be great if the initial launch included Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros, Metroid Prime and F-Zero

To be fair, WiiU had these one or two moments of excitement early on, but that's because they've basically shown almost everything the console would ever get 4 years early (but made it look like a close lineup).

Hmm...honestly not too sure what to expect but I'm optimistic. Last year was reserved for Zelda only and the year before that was horrendous but, seeing as Nintendo's finally moved on to just one platform, I think they should have at least a good E3 this year. Even if they disappoint, at the very least, I have a healthy amount of PS4/Switch titles to play this year. Seriously, they need to stop. I'm not made of money :(

One platform? What about 3DS and Mobile?

I mean, personally, this is going to be a Mario and Zelda year for me. That is already well beyond mediocre.

Throw in an almost full suite of multiplayer games, and it is a very very strong showing from the first party.

Just one that doesn't hit me as fully as I don't have people to play with locally.

I think for me my interest in multiplayer games, and certainly Nintendo's staples they are pumping out this year, has started to wane a bit. Particularly with one just being a port I basically only care about Zelda, Mario, and Xenoblade for first party, and we only know about FE for next year. E3 not having a good deal of announcements would be dissapointing.

Well if you only care about their titles, than I can see that, because, otherwise, the Switch's first year handily beats any other current gen systems first year, especially the 3DS's

Oh no doubt about that just some people get really excited about certain third party developers on the system. Similiar to FROM being a confirmed dev on the Switch.

I wouldn't say mediocre, but hardly great at the moment either personally.

What? Are you serious? I mean any platform would wish to have Zelda, 3D Mario game, and Mario Kart on their platform.

That's not even counting ARMS, Splatoon, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem Warriors, and etc. That alone puts this year for Switch as great.

Edit: Now someone is saying the WiiU had a better lineup.....

People's predictions are fairly tame in this thread. I guess it makes sense based on expectations. I have no idea what they're going to announce or show, but I have a feeling there will be one huge third party reveal that we didn't see coming. No idea what that could be, but that's just a gut feeling I have right now. I just want to see more RPGs get announced, honestly. If they can do that, then I'll be happy with their showcase.

The January event tempered a lot of people's expectations. The speculation regarding Switch's first year was wild before that happened. Now that we have a clearer picture of how 2017 looks for the system there isn't a lot of room for predictions to get too wild. I mean, on one hand, the fact that Xenoblade 2 and a Mario + Rabbids RPG are happening is way crazier than almost anything else people were thinking.

I gotta say all the predictions of Pikmin 4 happening in 2017 are a bit optimistic. If that ever happens it probably won't be this year. Things are way too tight and there wouldn't be enough space from Hey Pikmin (which, regardless of how we personally feel about it, they seem to be pushing as a solid-sized B title).

One platform? What about 3DS and Mobile?
Well I do have a 3DS but, after the Fire Emblem remake, I think I'm about done. Maybe I'll get Lady Layton or something but they're kind of low priority for me, I even feel like that for the last Fire Emblem. I'm just burnt out. The 3DS isn't getting any major internal projects from Nintendo and I don't think Mobile games should have significant impact on their output

Oh no doubt about that just some people get really excited about certain third party developers on the system. Similiar to FROM being a confirmed dev on the Switch.
Ahh...yeah, I definitely see that a lot. I guess I can't quite relate because I mostly get excited by certain franchises as opposed to developers. In any case, we'll probably see a Platinum Game game on the Switch sooner or later, seeing as they are a confirmed partner. Hoping for Bayonetta 3

I agree with that.

I want to see into 2018 and I want that to have both Nintendo and third party.

Yeah I'm a bit of the same.

Hm, a lot of things are possible, but I think we're limited to just one or two larger surprises. Pikmin 4 details are more likely than Metroid (at least, Tanabe doesn't seem like he's ready to show anything), and Retro's thing could wait again. Animal Crossing is definitely on the horizon, but with Splat2n it will have to wait. They may have a sidescroller or a left-field collab to show for the Switch.

Yeah I definitely agree that for someone not terribly interested in multiplayer the lineup looks a bit underwhelming now but when you consider that basically all but one of Nintendo's big multiplayer franchises will be out within the first 4 months of the console's life it starts to get more exciting.

I'm definitely ready for some more RPGs to hit, and hopefully E3 will shed some light on some of those like DQXI and Octopath Traveler.

What did we know about for Wii U by this time?
Bayonetta 2,Wonderful 101,Xenoblade X FExSMT,Zelda,3DMario,Smash 4 (these three just mentioned) Mario U,Pikmin 3,basically most of the U lineup.
:P

Thats why im still hoping the Switch has a killer E3 but you never know with Nintendo

Hell yeah. Tropical Freeze is an incredible game. Before that, I loved Returns on the Wii, too. I would lose my shit if they revealed a third entry featuring the Kremlings. All that being said, I expect a new IP.

I wouldn't be shocked that a possible third game in Retro's DKC trilogy will go full circle and focus on a pirate theme. Really, they should go full-out with the idea and make it as swashbuckling as possible.

We're so close to finally seeing (and hearing) more of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. 😃

My reason for buying a Switch.

God I hope so!

The odds are aligning themselves pretty well.

- Square Enix usually announce a localization or two at E3. Star Ocean 5 and Dragon Quest Builders' international releases were E3 announcements.
- They're very comfortable with supporting the PS4. All of the PS4 Dragon Quest spinoffs have been localized. Like most Japanese publishers I think they've also stressed the importance of developing PS4 games with worldwide sales in mind, since non-Japanese sales are too significant a market to ignore on that platform.
- Nintendo have done a good job with supporting, funding, distributing SE's RPGs on their platforms internationally - the DS and 3DS DQ games are things they pushed for strongly, as was Bravely Default 1 and 2. I assume they understand the importance of cultivating a JRPG audience on the Switch, and want one last big game for the 3DS to go out with a bang. DQXI being on both means they'd probably be willing to push for it themselves.

I'd be really surprised if it doesn't happen. I think DQ Heroes I + II may come over at some point too, and the only reason it wasn't simultaneous was because they didn't want to conflict with the solo release of Heroes II outside Japan.

People said BOTW was a system seller for the Switch but I believe Super Mario Odyssey will be a bigger system seller.

I mean the trailer is at 21 million views, it did that within a few months. Makes sense why this would be Nintendo's frontrunner for E3.
Yeah, the views on that are pretty crazy.
Hope it's good. Koizumi as producer and not being rushed like Sunshine should be good.
Bayonetta 2,Wonderful 101,Xenoblade X FExSMT,Zelda,3DMario,Smash 4 (these three just mentioned) Mario U,Pikmin 3,basically most of the U lineup.

Hoping to see some PG stuff. If Nintendo funds an exclusive that's as good as Bayo2 or W101 then Switch would out class Wii U's library by then.

I know it isn't a major title but is anyone else hoping to get a Mario Party Switch announcement? Not just that but also that it's a really good one. I've skipped out on new games in the series for years now because I always hear mediocre things but I always hope for a new great one.

I haven't bought a mario party game since Nintendo 64, but if it comes out on the switch I'll definitely get it. The system is perfect for this. Multiplayer anywhere.

A traditional (NO CARS) Mario Party with instant multiplayer would be a Day 1 buy for me, guaranteed!

Nintendo basically said the focus is on 2017 games. I don't expect a deep dive into a 2018 lineup. I expect you'll get 1-2 or so new 2018 games just to prove something is on the horizon and that's it.

My guess is we'll get

-Mario Odyssey trailer
-ARMS, last few character reveals, maybe an additional mode or two.
-Splatoon 2, story trailer
-Nintendo briefly discusses online app/pay service, free beta version available for Splatoon launch.
-Followed up with a Virtual Console segment. Probably what you'd expect, small upgrade fee for Wii U owners, release date given.
-Also an "app" section added to eShop for Netflix, etc.
-"3DS isn't dead you guys segment, look at Hey Pikmin, Miitopia, and Metroid Federation Force 2" (kidding)
-Fire Emblem Warriors trailer
-Animal Crossing mobile shows up here?
-Xenoblade Chronicles 2 trailer, live gameplay during Treehouse
-3rd Party segment, Skyrim, FIFA, NBA
-That leads into a new announcement of Mario + Rabbids, out this year. Maybe 1 or 2 other 3rd party deals they've lined up (Crossing my fingers for Rocket League)
-Indies segment
-Pokemon Stars announcement, out Octoberish.
-Then "here's a brief look at 2018" Reminder that Octopath Traveler, Shin Megami Tensai, Fire Emblem Switch exist before handing things over to Retro studios.
-Maybe end on a Metroid teaser if one exists?

Fin.

Other things like Pikmin 4, Smash Port, Mario Maker Port will wait for various other directs and stuff since they seem more likely then not to be 2018 titles.

I really want to see that Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem switch games but those must be so early in development I'm gonna guess we won't even see them at E3 2018.

Maybe that's the case with SMT, but if FE Switch is releasing in 2018 like Nintendo said, then E3 2018 should be the very latest that that game is revealed.

Nah. Fire Emblem (and animal crossing for that matter) I could see getting a full unveil later in the year, perhaps at a more Japanese- centric timed direct.

Lol someone is desperate for attention.

Absolutely nothing mediocre about what the Switch already has announced for its first year. There's no argument to be had on that front.

By mediocre, I'm talking with the knowledge about Wii U. That is:

Zelda - already on Wii U
Mario Kart - was already on Wii U
Splatoon - we know what this will be

So there's Mario at year's end so far that might be something special.

I think you have forgotten about the January event and Nintendo's last E3 (Zelda only). They don't really have much and you can complain about me as much as you want but the reality is what it is. Nintendo is all on it's own for the most part (indies and some japanese devs aside). They will rehash games as much as they can so it has quantity of titles to fill the gaps between the big ones.

So far Switch is pretty mediocre if you already game on something else. If not, sure I'll give you that.

Aren't people embarrassed to post crap like this?

Aren't you embarrassed to defend Nintendo no matter how mediocre they are? Nintendo are basically by themselves for the most part (Although if the 3DS devs move over that will help) and with their limited resources they will need to rehash games. Expect to see a bunch of remakes on Switch as they work on the big games.

Indies won't really do squat for the system and it would require some of the big guys to move over to really give it some momentum. That is, unless they can hit that casual zone again which they do seem to be leaning towards. But really, who wants that?
