Nintendo E3 plans detailed

The Switch lineup looking as bad as the WiiU is the point.

The Wii U nor Wii launched with one of the highest rated games of all time and the best Mario Kart of all time. If Mario Odyssey is that level (and it probably is with Koizumi at the helm) and ARMS and Splatoon 2 deliver, it's one of the greatest first years in terms of quality of any console. Smaller quality games like Snipperclips are the icing on the cake.

Looking forward to seeing more at E3.

So 3 generations ahead of what Capcom brings to the Switch, heh. Plus we all knew that an exclusive Resident Evil would be coming right from the beginning. I.e. a thing that seems unthinkable for current Nintendo. 3DS launched too early, but the support you'd expect on a Nintendo handheld was already guaranteed for the near future. While on Switch the best "new" things they could show from 3rd parties were a Suda concept that hasn't started development yet, a SMT game that merely started development and Nagoshi saying he might develop something (or not).

You are a sad, strange, little man.

It's funny too, USFII might actually outsell SFV.

Which would you prefer was announced at E3 for the Switch, Dreamcast Virtual Console or the Gamecube Virtual Console?

Dreamcast easily.

Marvel vs Capcom 2, Power Stone, Soul Calibur, Third Strike, Crazy Taxy ... hell even weird stuff like Cannon Spike is perfect for the switch.

And dreamcast was 90% Capcom and SEGA and they are the BFFs of virtual console.

And make HD remasters of Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and other 3 games and you are cool with the GC =P

Holy SHIT you guys I've never thought of this. Dreamcast is my fave console of all time. Is this possible? I mean shoot straight with me here. Is portable Dreamcast on my Switch possible?

Well, the Wii did have Genesis and Master System games, and the 3DS curiously had Game Gear games, so...maybe?

I guess it depends on how well the Switch does, long term. The Wii's VC library was a beast because, well, the Wii itself was a beast saleswise. The Wii U's, in comparison, was puny because it was too much of a failure for third parties to support it. IIRC there's not a single non-Nintendo consoles present in in the lineup like with the other consoles.

... Is this a real quote?

Kinda.

Yet that ugly Banjo clone with the lizard is one of the most successful vg kickstarters ever. If Retro did a 3D Donkey Kong with a decent budget, it easily would have made a better impression than what felt like yet another souped up 2D platformer that might as well have been its predecessor running on Dolphin. DK or ,,not Metroid" wasn't the problem. But that it was just another cynical project trying to keep Nintendo's (lost) casual Wii audience that loved NSMB over core gamers that actually need to buy consoles early/first.

Well yeah. Core gamers were mad because it was an underwhelming and cynical project from a high tier studio while ordinary gamers didn't even notice the game because it was so underwhelming - making it the worst selling Retro game, the worst selling DKC and providing absolutely zero hardware selling power for the WiiU.

What?

I'm not sure about "plenty more". The schedule seems fairly full and they have plenty to talk about with upcoming announced titles.
June: ARMS
July: Splatoon 2
August: Rabbids Kingdom Battle
September: FE Warriors
October: ???
November: Mario Odyssey
December: Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Not sure if they'd be to willing to release multiple titles in a month, though if Stars happens it could be in October or November. I think e3 will be pretty good, though, even if there's not a ton new

Like others have said they often do multiple releases per month in October and November. But more than that, why would we be excited about the potential combined output onto a single platform if that output is somehow limited to one game a month?

If the combined output is indeed to bear fruit this year or even next year, then we should be hearing about a lot of games in volume alone, not necessarily big games. Like, we know Mario Odyssey has been basically done for at least 4 months, so what else could that team be working on at the moment? There are a lot of teams currently unaccounted for in general.

My guess is that we'll hear about 4-5 additional first party titles releasing this year on the Switch, though they'll mostly be smaller titles.

Why is the man with a Travis Touchdown avatar shit talking the console giving us another Travis Touchdown game?

Shit man, we're getting more Travis. Be happy. Life's good.

Isn't that the definition of a troll? How is that allowed here?

Just tell the mods. I'm going to do that. It's clear trolling by posting that type of stuff over and over and over again. It's so lame and shows the type of person you are. Hes been banned once and obviously doesn't care. People like him ruin everything with baseless troll posts.

Yeah, everyone can't keep thinking one game a month. That's going to end at some point with the console and handheld teams being combined. Look how long SMO has been pretty much done. They're not just sitting around now. They're making another game be it big or small (please Captain Toad 2!). The Mario Kart guys made ARMS and MK8DX. We could see another 2-3 games from the Mario Kart team during the Switches lifespan.

Never really been into Virtual Console in the past, but I cannot wait for Switch VC. Something about this console makes me wanna play everything on it.

Yeah, I probably bought fewer than 5 VC titles during the time I had a Wii and a WiiU but I'm planning on starting a collection on the Switch.

I think there's going to be some kind of 2 player co-op or mode of some kind in Super Mario Odyssey and it'll be revealed. The Switch reveal trailer kind of implied it.

It could be a second character for player 2 to play as or it could be something as simple as the second player control in Super Mario Galaxy.

I would KILL for a full blown co op mode in Odyssey. Even if it's just Mario and Luigi.

So I'm just compiling a list of confirmed major releases coming to Switch for the rest of this year

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
ARMS
Cave Story+
Minecraft Story Mode
Splatoon 2
Redout
Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star
NBA 2K18
Fifa 2018
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Sonic Mania
Sonic Forces
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2
One Piece Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition
Fire Emblem Warriors
Super Mario Odyssey
Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Even before more stuff gets announced at E3, the first year of the Switch easily trounces the first year of the Wii U

There has to be an ALL IN at e3 for Switch first 10 months to be better IMO/for me then the first 10 months on Wii U.

Maybe some remasters? They don't take too much work and they have plenty of titles people want to see with jazzy HD graphics

I do wonder if this will be how they handle the GC ports (if we get em)

Preliminary info: Nintendo has booked an extra booth at E3 2017, so I decided to update an older post of mine. First though, the new booth (5636 in West Hall). The most recent floor plans just show Reserved, but I have another list (which I won't share here) that shows this as by Nintendo.

I don't have the dimensions for this booth, but will update once that becomes available.

What we currently know about Nintendo's plans for E3 2017

  • Nintendo will not be hosting a large-scale press conference for institutional investors, analysts and the media.
  • Nintendo will present Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation announcing new details for Nintendo Switch games launching this year. June 13, 9:00 AM PT, livestreamed.
  • Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3 will return. A livestreamed showcase of upcoming games for Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
  • Tournaments for ARMS and Splatoon 2 will be livestreamed from the show floor.
  • From the press release:

“Our various E3 activities will showcase the next steps for Nintendo Switch, from a summer of social competitive gaming to a holiday season highlighted by a milestone Mario adventure,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “With Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3, fans at home can watch in-depth gameplay of Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS games launching this year.”
  • Reggie Fils-Aime had this to say speaking with Fox News:

E3 is always a big time for Nintendo. We look at each E3 as a unique opportunity to tell our story. And we’re gonna have a big E3 this year. We’re going to be showcasing a variety of games. We will have experiences for… consumers will be able to attend the show for the very first time. So I’m not gonna tell you all of the various games and all of our little secrets for E3, but I can tell you that E3 is going to be a major opportunity for us to showcase not only Nintendo Switch, but also content coming to Nintendo 3DS.
  • Super Mario Odyssey will be at E3 2017, with hands on experience at Nintendo's booth(s).
  • They have booked four booths (4822, 5244, 5644, 5636) in West Hall:

  • They have booked the Theatre (Room 411) in LACC. 299 fixed seating.

  • Further details about Nintendo’s activities at E3, including information about the tournaments, will be shared closer to the event.

Thanks again for all the info and your work Rösti!!

Gosh. Sony and Nintendo are both taking most of the stands in the E3. I wonder where Microsoft is.

Microsoft has two booths. The larger Booth 1601 (15000 sq ft) and the smaller Booth 1769 (900 sq ft), both in South Hall

What is everyone's completely out of left field prediction for the Spotlight?

I'm going with Pocket Card Jockey 2 for the Switch.

Mostly 2017 makes sense, I imagine there's some holes in the lineup that Nintendo wants to fill. I doubt there won't be any big surprises, it's E3, of course Nintendo will have some - even their worst E3s have had cool surprises.

Though, I'm pretty sure Nintendo has been more prone to keeping announcements and releases closer together for the most part as well.

Well Tantalus did say they were working on a number of Switch ports, so we might see some of those. But I'm seriously expecting something like 4-5 brand new first party games announced for 2017, though likely smaller games similar to the one they showed in the April Direct (cannot remember the name).

My expectations might be a bit high but I feel like this is the time to showcase the benefits of developing for a single platform, and if they don't really do that so well I'll be a bit disappointed.

As an aside, I'm surprised we haven't heard from Trump on how Nintendo is an evil corporation dedicated to poisoning the youth of America with Japanese propaganda and announcing bans on their products, given how much he watches Fox News.

Yeah, no. Not at all.

I think people are mistaking my concerns about Nintendo's showing with derision, which couldn't be further from the case. I love Nintendo and am excited to see what they show. But the fact of the matter is, E3 isn't about stuff we already know about. It's about GAF-breaking megatons that get people out of their seats cheering.

I think, more than any other company, Sony just seems to "Get" E3. They put forth a constant stream of quality games, one after another, with little room to breathe and little wasted space. People forget that the E3 press conferences are the highlight of E3 because they're just as much about showmanship as they are information, and Sony seems to understand better than anyone else how to surprise and excite people. Not saying Nintendo doesn't have that ability, as they have shown in the past - but it just isn't their focus, and when they miss, they miss hard.

As for MS, they've already built up a lot of hype for their conference with the Scorpio reveal, and new hardware will pretty much trump everything else at a given E3 especially given the specs of the console. So Nintendo is definitely fighting an uphill battle.

Its cool that Sony has mega bombs at E3 but what's the point if most of them release in like 2-5 years. I know most GAF posters love that shit but honestly I find it annoying that I have to wait that long for a game. Show it when its ready. The fact I had to wait two generations for The Last Guardian was terrible.

As for Microsoft people are giving the Scorpio to much credit. I mean new hardware is cool but what's the point if you don't have any cool new first party games to show off for it. The fact they cancelled Scalebond already heavily disappointed me. In all honesty I feel Microsoft have the bigger uphill battle.

I like this idea! I'll go with the BoxBoy trilogy for Switch, out this summer and the physical version comes with the Amiibo. I guess BG&E2 being a real thing that's exclusive to Switch in some way would also be pretty crazy. I know we have rumors about it but it still seems so wacky. I'd love to have that game but I'm not optimistic.

Maybe we should wait to judge who "gets" it until this year's E3 is done. I still don't get why a lot of people are assuming Nintendo won't announce anything new. Again, there has never been an E3 I can remember where Nintendo didn't announce new games, and that includes last year's "Zelda only" E3. How big those games are remains to be seen, as well as what platforms they're on. If we get a few more new 3DS games like Ever Oasis that will certainly be a bit disappointing to me.

Sony gets how to induce hype, and I definitely think that's important. But it remains to be seen how well that hype will hold up when some of the games (FFVII, Shenmue) will probably still be several E3's away from release.

And I may not be the best person to judge this but I don't really see much of any hype around Scorpio. PS4 Pro came and went without much hype and didn't put up the best numbers, so I don't really see why Scorpio would do much better. If MS has a huge slate of exclusives to announce then that's a different story.

Regardless of who "gets it" I think this is going to be a very fun E3 for all of the big 3. Super excited for some new announcements from everyone.

And I completely see what you're saying and I agree with you on a personal level, what I'm speaking is in more of a general sense. We're gamers, we want winners and losers, we want stories and surprises, so it's only natural at E3 has evolved from an event for investors and press into the near battleground it has become. And while yes, part of me sees E3 for what it is and presumably what Nintendo sees it as, I can't help but get caught up in the pomp and bombast of the event.

Weirdly im most hype for a VC announcement. And not even because theres games I specifically wanna play, I just want to see how they handle it.

Personally hoping for a subscription model, but failing that, hope they just announce a huge library with a 'and you can download these right now' kind of announcement

Yeah... I think any VC announcement that doesn't at least include a large selection of day one games will be treated like a wet fart. They can't keep drip feeding VC games and expect us to be excited about them.

Hopefully filling in the Switch's blanks, including the aforementioned VC, is high on Nintendo's list. Personally, and I know they wouldn't do it, but I'd love to see an NES Classic Edition game, either physical or digital (maybe both?) which includes all the games featured on the NES Classic for $50 or so. You can even sell a wireless NES-controller compatible with the Switch, or just play with the Joycons.

Then, you get all the benefits of the NES Classic, with wireless controllers, and portable!

The Wii launched with Twilight Princess to be fair which is one of the highest rated games of all time.

Mario Odyssey looked really rough in January, I know it's a Mario game but if people are making comparisons to Sonic 06, that's a really bad sign.

I think we should be guessing smaller titles Nintendo could announce out of the blue for the Switch. They're definitely known for that like a new Warioware game or new small IPs.

🙄

You're trying too hard. They saw Mario in a city and thought of Sonic. It ends there.

I think the comparisons were more of Mario being in a more realistic setting than anything else. The game looked great to me, not surprising considering that the game itself was almost done as of January.

Yep! I've been saying something similar for a while now so I couldn't agree more! In an ideal world, Nintendo would have:

- A "Virtual Console" app for Nintendo Switch that lets you buy, download, and play VC games within it instead of treating them like individual titles. Basically like having the NES Classic OS available as a "game"

- A "Virtual Console" machine that uses the above-mentioned OS and allows you to download more games. It'll be a cheap TV-only device with a bunch of wireless accessories that also work on Switch

- Continue production of the "Classics" series of consoles but treat them as limited time releases for collectors.

Please Nintendo. Hire me.
