Thanks to Fuzzy for the correct Metroid and Wario Ware totals and missing games.

screw nintendo going 3rd party...they should just go 100% handheld. They're not really takeing advantage of their console hardware to begin with and you don't need pretty graphics to enjoy Zelda and Mario

Ah, but pretty graphics don't hurt anything either...

Seroiusly though, Nintendo just better stick around period. I am still a moron that nearly cries with every new Zelda, Mario, Metroid, and Donkey Kong release; it just makes me so happy.

Yoshi's Island is the least selling Mario Advance game. Bastards are missing out.

And it's the least altered version out of the ports too. Pure 2D platforming perfection.

I didn't like yoshi island one bit. Bought it. Sold it. I have no soul. I know.
Thankfully you realised this point.

Yoshi's Island kicks arse. The only downside was the music had to be slightly downgraded and the fuzzy wuzzy effect was easily one of the maddest effects of 16-bit history yet it was turned into a Frankenstein for GBA :(

But yeah.. those sales data are impressive. Imagine how much profit they would've souped up from just the port jobs.

MARIO GOLF ADVANCE TOUR - 202,303

Just bought this game and an NES SP, and these sales are WAYY too low for this game. I mean the only games its beating outside of the NES series is the non-Nintendo fimiliar Hamtaro and Disney games, and the bomb F-Zero. This is one of the best games I've played in a long time.

Yeah, I thought it was amazingly enjoyable. Mind you though, it's hard for it to stand out as much with such a great catalogue.

forgive me, I dont have Yoshi's Island for GBA.. (I played it to death on the SNES though).. the fuzzy wuzzy effect (the sorta druggy effect where the actual level would start moving like ocean waves) is gone? That was really an awesome part of the gameplay, what did they replace it with exactly?

I forgot what the effect is on the GBA version

Also, the GBA version has SIX NEW LEVELS upon completion of the game, levels that weren't in the SNES version

Out of all the Advance games I've played, I'dd say Super Mario Advance 2 is the best, most rounded. Super Mario Advance is barebones, and SMB 3 is watered down and made too easy. Plus the 'new levels' you need another GBA and e-reader and cards just to get them. Haven't played SMA 3 yet, but I'dd like to try it for the new levels with no strings attatched.

uhh..I think it's still in there. (gba version that is)

EDIT: why can't we get a brand new mario sidescroller? none of this remake/rehash crap.

Give us what we want >.<

Wow, I had no idea this game bombed so hard. And Maximum Velocity sold 374,000?

Put it in proportion with the other GBA launch titles, however, and you'll see both

a) Launch is the only reason it sold well
b) It got owned compared to the others, so this wasn't a big surprise.

We are in no position to be armchair fucking industry analysts. Look at the stupid shit people said about the benefits of Sega going 3rd party. They're fucking worse off now than ever in their history.

Hmm, I might have to get motivated some day to buy Mario Golf and Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. I loved the GBC Mario Golf game, and Amazing Mirror looked a lot better than the first one. Perhaps Zelda: The Minish Cap as well. I passed up most of the last year's lineup.

I've owned 24 of Nintendo's 50 GBA titles, plus several of their Japan-only games.

It's nice to see the DS about to have its first million seller here in the US. :)

And damn, Nintendo's GBA games sell f'in awesome. And there's a few more that are very close to a million, sure to pass that mark. :D

considering how well Nintendo is doing in the handheld front doesn't really require a leap of faith to see how better off they are by simply focusing on the handheld market.

how dare you call me an arm chair analyst, i have a very nice recliner!!!!

Ok, well I still maintain that Nintendo can claim a lot of leverage with their console business. They have their million sellers and that won't change with the next system. It just doesn't make good business sense to just drop that attractive endeavor in favor of the handheld market. Hell, as it stands right now Nintendo is cannibalizing themselves with the DS and its lack of soft.

There's diversification and there's spreading yourself too thin.

Nintendo has half-assed their console efforts since the Gamecube launched. If this wasted energy was diverted back to their handheld biz then they can literally kill the PSP before 2007.

It never works that way. Nintendo brings a lot of growth to the console industry. They also release quality games on a timely basis. They aren't spreading themselves thin at all. In fact, they're moving at a rather typical pace for any successful gaming company. The GameCube is still a viable platform for Nintendo. They can market their hot IP's to the hardcore crowd, something that'll be crucial for their business plan until the RVN launches.

I still think this is cool. :)

DS-WARIO WARE TOUCHED! - 202,176 (2 months of sales)

GBA-WARIOWARE INC MEGA MICRO GAME$ - 235,823 (23 months of sales)

I hope this is more than a case of "nothing else to buy" - I like this series quite a bit and want to see more of it.

I took the time to double check my numbers for Classic NES Metroid and my numbers were correct.

October - 2,449
November - 17,464
December - 33,308
January - 8,590
February - 8,973
March - 13,743
LTD - 84,527

They aren't, nor ever were in any position to go 3rd party financially, & that's all that matters. And if the upcoming LOZ isn't taking advantage of the hw, then I'd recommend spectacles. Moving along, the reports of Mario's death are somewhat exaggerated. Also when the quality software starts releasing for the DS, we sould see some very impressive numbers, even from the 3rd parties. No wonder they do not want to launch the Revolution with at least one true Mario platformer.

Why not?

1) A port of a great game (although a shitty port).
2) Nothing else worth buying from Nintendo on the DS until very recently.

The thing is, they already have a lot of handheld content. Shifting over console resources will just lose whatever marketshare they have in that area to create more competition for their own games in the handheld area.

In addition to that, the top content of the home market tends to turn portable eventually, so they get to sell two games for the price of 1.5; and at a much higher price the first time.

Aren't they making a profit now?
