There almost was a Nintendo PlayStation. Until Sony re-wrote the contract to say that Nintendo would only control the cartridge games while Sony controlled the Super-CD format and disc-based games. When Yamauchi read that, he killed the partnership immediately. No one controls software on a Nintendo platform other than Nintendo.
