A few things:
- Jamboree and Mario + Luigi Brotherhood Numbers are spectacular.

- I saw a lot of people predicting between 5.5 to 6.5m units sold for this Quarter so the numbers look low considering that regions like Australia, Canada and many more are flooded with the Mario Wonder/Mario Kart 8 bundles.

- 54m. games sold in the quarter also look low.

Can’t believe Mario Kart 8 Deluxe just keep selling. It makes perfect sense for Nintendo to launch the Switch 2 with it (even with a rumored bundle/special edition console).

What innovations does Mario Kart 9 need to have in order to keep the huge momentum?

As for hardware, the Switch is still having strong sales. Of course not as high, but it’s so amazing. I believe the Switch has never had a price cut, only sales promotions.

That has to make it clear for Nintendo to not price the Switch 2 over $399. They need to keep momentum for the hardware, as well as Mario Kart 9 and their other software. They need to not make a mistake right now.

Switch is carried by Japan sales at this point. Still spectacular performance in its 8th year

$2.8 billion in revenue for the quarter.
Profit down to around $824 million.

For the bottom numbers people are chasing.

That's also probably more than the other Handhelds on the market right now lifetime sales
Probably?

What other handheld devices are there? Steamdeck? Didn't even sell more than 5M, afaik. Lol

Portal doesn't even count.

Anyway, lol at the people claiming Nintendo won't offer competition to Sony when Xbox is gone.
Switch is likely to surpass PS2 as best-selling console ever.

Hardware a bit lowered than i was expecting, but still really good. 9.54M the revised forecast is 11M it’s going to be hard to achieve. Software is in line with my expectations. Good numbers overall.

Should be around 8 bln revenue for the year, probably smaller than Mihoyo now
Switch 8th year impact them heavily

150 million units sold without a price drop, insane. It's around ~4 millions behind the NDS and ~10 millions behind the PS2 (the "we found more PS2s under the rug" number).

It will catch them both in few years. Around 2027 most likely... with a price cut maybe?

It has also lasted longer without a successor. PS2 had 5.5 Years before PS3 dropped. Switch is going into 9th year without a successor.

Sony could reach similar numbers for PS5 if it kept selling it till 2029 with no successor

When they'll make a nice price cut when the Switch 2 arrives, Sony needs to dig out another few million PS2 sales for it to keep the best selling console of all time.
Or they just.. stop producing it lol.

Permanent price cuts are probably never happening again for the foreseeable future.

6.5* years. Also PS2 was in production until 2013 and sold like 40 million units after the PS3 came out.

PS2 might be my favorite console of all time but it's about to be passed in sales no matter how you choose to cope.

That's true, but the PS2 had severe price cuts: 299 (2000) -> 199 (2002) -> 179 (2003) -> 149 (2004) -> 129 (2006, PS3 launch) -> 99 (2009, just to clean the remaining stock most likely).

With the current sales trajectory, PS5 won't reach the Switch numbers in the same time frame. It might come on top in the EU though.

Happy to see both games continuing to sell pretty well!
  • Astral Chain: 1.33m
Wish Astral Chain had better legs since it's one of my fav Platinum games. Still praying for a sequel!

Edit: I now see that the sales for these titles weren't updated this quarter. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I'd like to remind everyone again when comparing PS2 vs NSW.

PS2 total profits = $2 billion
NSW total profits= $25 billion

Majority of PS2 hardware sales were sold at below $150 price points thus lowering the margins it received per units.

NSW vs all PS era hardware

PS1 total profits= $3 billion
PS2 total profits = $2 billion
PS3 total profits = -$4 billion
PS4 total profits = $9 billion
PS5 total profits = $10 billion
Total PS hardware profits = $20 billion

Nintendo Switch is undoubtedly the most successful gaming console of all time.

Damn PS5 is generating profits on pace with Switch despite being a higher end console .. Impressive numbers for Sony.

Thank you for highlighting this achievement.

I wish we got updated numbers for all games.

I'm curious about how the Xenoblade games are faring. Xenoblade 2 must have reached 3M by now. Last number should be from Q4 2022.

Bring back the CESA white paper...

Is Xenoblade 2 still getting produced? I know it will be on the eshop but it will be buried under everything else.

Amazing numbers for the switch. I wonder what total sales will be? Only 10m now to catch PS2! Can it top out ay 170m or is that too much considering the switch 2 is round the corner now. Also why are prople salty about the PS2 number? The 155m was reported one year before it was officially discontinued. You think it sold 0 consoles in that year? It literally cost nothing remember? We even have the exact final number.

Haven't you heard? Sony is creating those sales from thin air. Lol

Tbf, it should've been PS4 at $11.33 billion profits and PS5 at $7.67 billion as shown on Sony earning reports but somehow Sony decided not to counting the profits of 9 months during CY2020 for PS4 when PS5 wasn't available yet on the market lol.

Yeah it's just silly. 160m is the final number. Deal with it and stop being childish. It says right there march 2013 was end of production. 155m was reported early 2012.

Edit: I just gotta poke fun at xbox here. PS2 sold more in its 12th year than xbox series did in 2024. Its 4th year on the market.

No, but these "minor" games are still selling some units (digital) every year. For example, Xenoblade 2 sold ~260K units in 2022 (last number we know).

Slightly lower than I expected, but still very impressive to see it break the 150M mark. First system to do so since the DS back in 2012.

And it’ll surely fly past the DS this year to become Nintendos best selling system ever.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership (1.84 million)
This is a great start! I thought I’d be waaay lower tbh.

With Nintendo's official report we know that 11.50 million Switch's were shipped in calendar year 2024, a big drop from 16.81 million in 2023.

JP: 3.48 million
NA: 3.97 million
EU: 2.85 million
OT: 1.19 million
I think they delayed the Switch 2 for far too long and these are the results.. They went too conservative with it for some reason.

Maybe the Switch 2 games weren't ready?

Both XC2 and Torna were reprinted a few months ago in NA, and I believe it never run out of print in Europe.

If you're from NA, I suggest you get both copies (XC2 and Torna) sooner rather than later if you haven't done so already, as in the past they went out of print, with copies selling for $70 to $80 on ebay.

I am interested to see what a truly backwards compatible Switch 2 does to the Switch 1 sales. Its not like the Switch 1 in its 7 years has seen a price drop, is it a case when the Switch 2 is out, everyone moves onto it or waits for Stock of it and then the Switch 1 sales drop accordingly.

I was one of those that pick up Torna during the reprint.

Has any Nintendo system had good legs after a successor was released? I could see sales falling off hard as we get closer to the Switch 2 launch.
