How are tariffs benefiting me as an American again?
It isn't. Trump thinks the foreign countries pay the tariff. It's the companies buying the foreign product. Tariff goes to the government (likely to pay for Cheetoman's golfing). Company either eats the costs (likely laying off people) or passes it on to the consumer. It's supposed to reduce foreign buying and increase US production. That works for some things but most items we have to get elsewhere. Cheetoman is insane.

Hopefully this doesn't affect Canada, but we'll probably get screwed too.
They could raise the prices everywhere worldwide by a smaller amount rather than just raise American prices by like 20+%.
Nah it will be fine. All companies knows how to negotiate for incentives and tax cuts especially if they build plants in USA. I'm confident everything will be fine especially in gaming industry. Its all about negotiations. Growing pains in a short while, but in the long run it will be beneficial too USA to create jobs especially on states that has a very high unemployment, which is one of the top reason for the election result in USA, along with frustration against woke agenda twisted gender ideology.

And its just being fair since other countries are already charging very big tariffs against USA before Pres Trump presidency. Price will stabilize again once everything becomes fair in tariffs and more factories are build in USA.

For me, just manage your budget properly, take care of you job and work hard.
Companies aren't going to spend hundreds of millions or billions building factories in the US (especially when the parts they need to build the thing are imported still and tariffed) when the tariffs could be gone in 4 years or earlier.

Lol Nintendo you have money and are increasing the price of your games. Just eat the tariffs.

Do people srsly think everyone will do everything in the USA? You know all the parts of the console also has to be made in the USA or else it would be pointless.
I agree. But, if the US is expecting trade to be equal, that is unlikely to happen. So, it seems like an easier solution. Maybe assemble it in Mexico.

I mean, what other choice do you have? It would appear America is done paying for everyone else. So unless the rest of the world is going to pay the Americans now…like the Romans. I just don't know what else they can logically do.

Back around 2000 in an Econ class. I was taught the only way out of depression would be either be one of 3 things.

1.) Global war that would reshape trade routes eventually.
2.) a disrupting technology…automobiles or internet for example
3.) Another deadly pandemic.

Maybe option #2 is what AI is?

nintendo fanboyism + TDS

two of the most unstable groups of people meeting to form one super mega unstable being the likes of which we have never seen :messenger_tears_of_joy:
I don't think this is classical Trump Defense Syndrome. I think it's maybe possible that the current sitting president of the United States could have had a negative near term effect on the United States Economy.

If it was TDS, I think it would be some of that hilarious propaganda of "oh this is going to long term help and is just short term pain." It might be, some "Well yes maybe early Switch 2s will cost $450 but under Trump we should see amazing long-term $199 Switch 2 prices. But obviously if it goes bad, it's more Bidenflation!!! Robbie robble robble…"

You'll have to rewrite that all to be more deranged though for Trump Defense Syndrome.

This is a failure squarely on Nintendo's C-suite.

On the otherhand, it pulled out some folks with brain worms to ignore here. First thing pro-consumer Nintendo has done in decades as far as I'm concerned.

I can't believe all the shit that happened since this morning and it's barely noon in the US lmao.

FAFOlogists will be studying this exact moment for years to come.

They are probably playing the game......then will say... 'NO....we will eat the tariff cost and keep it at $450' and everyone will sigh in relief and praise their consumer friendly choices.

Tariff's have 100%, without fail, always been passed on to the consumer. Why do you think virtually all rational people have been so against them? It's going to crash the economy.

I don't want to defend him but he IS a businessman, surrounded with people who also know how to make money. The question is if he's in there for the people or for his own legacy. The tariffs are a means to negotiate. I guess we have to wait and see.

Some people think trumps main goal is to threat the fed to lower the interest rates. Hopefully they are right.

I feel like these tariffs could move focus away from the US and to other countries in the world. America could be losing its power.

But I do not know shit and happily admit that.

It's alot more complicated than that. The usa don't have a deficit in services far from it. Actually that makes up for the deficit in goods. It's also that you still has the world reserve currency which is more valuable than a tiny but of deficit. This whole thing is going to hurt everyone longterm.

Exhibit A

I don't think so brother. I think you are truly going to see some wild #$%& now. Buckle up. Worldwide we are going for a ride. I am betting the next thing you see is PAL, European pre-orders delayed as well.
Erm why would they do that.

Eur is gaining ground on the USD and there will be excess production of the console because of lower US sales, if anything they have room to reduce European prices if they wish

The answer is quite simple. Buy consoles made in the US.
Even if there were any, they would be a lot more expensive to produce than in Vietnam, unless you can find Americans willing to work for 2 bucks a hour. So the final effect is the same, 650 buck Switch 2.

He's crushing the economy so his rich billionaire friends can buy up the remains. He doesn't care about 99.99% of the American citizens.

What are the tariffs other countries put on US products?

I have never known about any of this, but I am not an economist :/

Well that's about to change isn't it
Yep.

Let's see who these money hungry companies pick.

People used to make fun of the UK charts and say they didn't matter.

Now that might be the biggest market (outside of Japan) for the Switch 2.

100% agree. This is maybe the wildest thing i have seen in my lifetime economically. That is factoring in 2008, and the dotcom rise and bust. This could reshape the world economically.

You realize if they build plants in America the price will be higher to produce. You think the average American is going to work for 5 dollars an hour or less to produce the switch let alone the parts that he is tariffng from other countries to make he product. Nintendo makes bigger profit margins due to cheaper labour.

So, we know Nintendo has already a number of Switch 2 shipped to US. Will they cover the preorders for a paper launch on June 5 and then update the price for new consoles shipped after the curfew?

Well. They went up for a preorder here in Oz right after the announcement. Haven't sold out yet.

I can only speak for my country the U.S.A we have plenty over here with deep pockets and a massive scalping culture going on with limited edition shoes and everything else.

You do realize that every single competitor for Nintendo also manufactures abroad and will increase prices?
If Nintendo is doomed, so is everyone else.
its the classic Doomed joke about Nintendo.

if nothing changes we are all doomed no matter the country You live, it Will be like a Financial COVID that begins in the U.S. and spreads around the world.

I admit its a gamble but its a calculated risk. Better than doing nothing and just staying with status quo, which cause allot of job loses in USA, and be abuse by other tariffs of other countries.

And USA is still the biggest economy in the world and biggest market and consumer. I think that is the biggest card of USA that other countries don't want to lose the USA market.

I do think you are probably right. I don't have numbers in front of me. But, it feels like maybe Nintendo holds launch a bit longer, or maybe launches in Japan and China first. We will see though.

There isn't a clear winner. There is millions and millions of factory workers around the world. There isnt even enough people in the us to produce everything. My only guess is there are other goals that's not talked about.

Iam all out for every country to drop all tariffs but we also need to drop all kind of subsidies on all goods as well. If people want fair free trade we should do it the right way.

Nintendo deserves this after all the waiting they've done for the Switch 2. Console has been ready but they didn't want to break up their gravy train with the Switch 1, fuck that.

Before: we gotta eradicate the woke mind virus

After: I'm in my 40s and can no longer afford luxury children's toys

This is hilarious.

People were blaming the current price on Tariffs.
I guess that was bullshit.

Dude, how do you even plan ahead this fucking tariff chaos? No country, no company can.

A chatGPT tariff generator is playing with global economy.

This actually works out for me. Thank you, President Trump.

Also, lol @ everyone who previously blamed tariffs for the Switch 2's price.
