Bingo. Zelda shouldn't be used as a representative to illustrate the capabilities of Switch. It's going to happen, and the game may be impressive enough to 'Wow' some people, but Nintendo really needs a visual showpiece on Thursday to show the strength of Switch. They can't lean on Wii U ports/remasters. 3D Mario or some impressive third-party game would serve this role nicely.
I don't expect them to show anything that is gonna wow people just on the basis that they dont give a shit about hardware power and just dont really care to show crazy visuals. But I expect any of the ground up Switch titles they make to look significantly better than Zelda since they can make use of more modern rendering techniques and better hardware features.
The thing is gonna get most of its support from Japan and they dont really wow graphically outside of a few examples.
I never said anything about big upgrades, I was referring to better texture quality and better LOD, neither of which are major changes. I'd be very okay with better texture filtering so that the same textures that are there now don't look like a blurry mess 5 feet away from Link, and I'd also like to see more actual grass over a plain green texture when looking at plains off in the distance. Neither of those are "big upgrades", but I guess I'm asking for the world huh.
You're asking for things from a port that they obviously do not give a shit to change. Like I said you are getting easy upgrades. They are not increasing foiliage density and they arent gonna use different filtering techniques. I don't care whether you think they are small or not, its a WiiU game they are porting, the things the switch version will add will be minimal.
This is from a video that was a couple of posts below mine, there are areas in the switch footage that look noticeably poorer than that of the Wii U, though we already established that this was likely due to the poor projector on Fallon. I admitted that I was wrong, and this has been resolved already. Not once did I say that I was expecting a complete overhaul, and not once did I say that this was the title to showcase the system's power with, and If you thought that I was saying that, then you misinterpreted my posts.
I never said anything relating to "you" wanting a big upgrade. I said this is a port and it's not going to show anything about the systems capabilities. And it is not going to perform worse than the WiiU version and you shouldn't have even made that implication because it's stupid.
I hear you. The texture work in this game looks to be so much worse than XCX, which I just can't understand. I realise the art style is covering up the flaws for a lot of people, but I'm not a huge fan of it, so I'm just seeing a game that looks real ugly in spots.
I know that Monolith are wizards using dark magic, I just hoped Zelda team could get closer to that visual quality.
Then again, XCX wasn't ultimately that good of a game, so hopefully this one delivers where it really matters.
XCX is a pretty fucking good looking game with some crazy tech but there are a lot of cuts on that game to get it looking the way it does. Baked in lighting, shadowing that isn't dynamic, collision detection basically removed from all non environment objects, they had you download big ass data packs to help with performance, sprite grass. Etc etc.
The game still looks better than Zelda but different needs required. Monolith also definitely will have staff credited with this title as well since they helped out with Skyward Sword.
