Nintendo: Wii U could become "preferred" Call of Duty platform

Either say 'We really would love to have COD on the Wii U and we're sure our fans will too.' or 'COD is a very valuable and important franchise and we believe that it would be fantastic on the Wii U.'

So because it could become the preferred way to play for some, which is a possibility.. some folks prefer to play Black Ops on the Wii...

Its.. a good case to mock an executive?

Like, I honestly don't get what's wrong with what he said.

Call of Duty being successful on a Nintendo platform?

Even with the actual quote being a bit weaker than the thread title makes it sound like:
"The Wii U could become the preferred way to play those games for some of the core gamers."
I don't see it happening.

*cue Nintendo GAFers stating that their favourite CoD games were on the Wii because of the Wiimote*

Makes sense, I mean the PC is the lead platform .. oh wait.
For core gamers, it should be. I can't imagine anyone serious about their FPSs still sticking with dual analogs.
Don't really see what is so wrong with this quote. Yeah it could become a better way to play for some core gamers.
95% of posters only read the title, and the topic creator I guess either failed in reading comprehension or deliberately misrepresented the statement.

CoD is successful on the Wii, despite the second-rate treatment the system got from the franchise.

But I thought Nintendo admitted that they suck at online compared to Sony and MS.

And this is a huge online multiplayer game. Weird PR from Nintendo.

Look at what I said and then look at what he said. One isn't drawing attention to yourself or making a claim that really can draw laughs while the other simply points out that Nintendo would love to have COD on the platform and so would its fans.

Or I simply took the title from the original source =P

Pretty sure he just copied the Eurogamer article title.

Which is obviously worded the way it is to attract more attention, but you know. :p

The actual quote isn't nearly that bad and full of qualifiers.

Great thread again my man!

I'm getting the PC version for sure, but the Wii U version will most likely be the console version we go with this time, instead of the 360 version. Hopefully it's 720p, which right there will make it the vastly superior version for me.

Do Call of Duty players honestly want to look down at their hands to see how much ammo they have during a multiplayer match?

That would annoy me more than help.

I want what they're smoking. Most of the bros who play COD are the ones who view Nintendo as kiddy garbage. There's a better chance of Dishonored selling 10 million copies than a Nintendo platform becoming the main COD one.

Gamer: Woo hoo i bought COD on my new system, the WiiU
Gamer: Puts COD in and tries to play online
WiiU: Enter friends code in here
Gamer: WTF, ok
Gamer: Hey COD body would you like to be friends
Gamer 2: Sure
Gamer: writes a messages to gamer 2 (let´s destroy the other players)
WiiU: You have to wait half an hour for your message to be approved.
Gamer2 is offline
Gamer: Fuck this shit
WiiU: Error, error, profanity found, cannot process it
WiiU commits Seppuku.

I'd hardly call this optimism. COD becoming successful on Wii U is a torturous thing to imagine, I don't want those guys shitting up my console of choice.

That was only for messages that got flagged, or something like that, IIRC.

Well actually, you are the one drawing attention to the quote.

Again, he is a marketing exec for the company. Trying to sell their product, and the biggest 3rd party game on the market.

I feel like if he was sheepish on his response, we'd get a similar thread anyhow.

So... What do you expect an executive from a company to say?

"Naw, we don't think anyone will buy the game on our product. The experience is better served on their current consoles?"

Well, he doesn't have to say crazy things and actually he doesn't on the main point "discussed" here. That's the eurogamer title being more pretentious than what the guy said. And it seems is talking more generally than cod.

Care to share why?

1) online infrastructure or lack of thereof in Nintendo's case
2) habit, CoD is a Xbox franchise even though it is on like 5 different platforms
3) Wii U pad is heavier than 360 controller, good luck playing 3 hours with it
4) having to look up on the TV and down on the controller screen in a fast and furious competitive MP game... lol good luck with that
5) Nintendo's "kiddy/ grandma" image - still going on after 10 years

Basically there is NO chance in HELL CoD fanbase will move to Wii U. In fact there is a bigger (0.00001%) chance they will move to iPad first.

Notice that I did not mention graphic capabilities or advantages of the Wii U as graphics are not important for CoD franchise.

You're in luck then, as it definitely won't happen. Barring major surprises, the Wii U version will be the worst selling version of the four (handhelds are a different beast) released every year.

How am I drawing attention to the quote when I simply used the original headline from the original source?

Derp, taking away the mini map to the bottom screen is detrimental to the gameplay.

Being able to play a round of deathmatch on the shitter or in your bed, on the other hand, could be massive. I guess it depends if online can work while streaming to the gamepad.

Nintendo is just a barrel of laughs lately. Guys look down at the screen with no gameplay on it to do something that you can do on the screen with gameplay in it. This is like some Jonestown Kool-aid shit right now, they are so into their own platform that they don't realise the flaws. Especially with friend codes and Nintendo's sanitization of their consoles, I doubt little Timmy is going to risk being able to call people the N word by moving over to the Wii u when MS money hats all of the dlc he so desperately begs his parents for. I want Nintendo to succeed because it stimulates competition and innovation that otherwise wouldnt be there, but they need to focus on their strengths, not their weaknesses.

Basically what I'm saying is: no

actually call of duty has many possibilities of using the screen, like the drop bomb and heli stuff....that you cant on the others while seeing what's going on in the rest of the game....

I want what they're smoking. Most of the bros who play COD are the ones who view Nintendo as kiddy garbage. There's a better chance of Dishonored selling 10 million copies than a Nintendo platform becoming the main COD one.

He never said it will become the main COD system. Just that some core gamers might prefer the Wii U version. Nothing wrong with that statement.

I must say I have a hard time imagining how GamePad could be used in a traditionnal FPS, beyond showing a map or instantly switch weapons and gear.

I guess one cool feature could be to display on the GamePad what is happening behind the head of the player.
Or include a droïd with a camera that you could pilot with the GamePad, giving you intel of the map, but also exposing your soldier while you are using it.

Of course, a co-op session in full screen for both you and your friend would be great.

"The Wii U could become the preferred way to play those games for some of the core gamers."

His actual quote is likely true. While it won't be the majority, I'm sure there will be some core gamers that prefer the way COD games play with the new game pad.

Using the controller to look on the map (at least in multiplayer) is too slow in my opinion. It would require you to take your eyes of the screen instead of just take a quick peek to the left corner of the screen. But i'm interested in seeing what they will do with the controller.

I just realized this came from the same interview as the legendary "I think it's 1080p" quote.

Also he didn't technically say what the thread title implies he said, although I suppose the spirit was the same.

COULD and SOME are the key words. That's a lot different than implying it's the preferred platform. People without friends lists could prefer the Wii U version. Doesn't mean it'll be anything but third place for the majority.

Do Call of Duty players honestly want to look down at their hands to see how much ammo they have during a multiplayer match?

That would annoy me more than help.

Pretty much. With this sort of game, you really cant take your eyes off the screen for a moment.

Now with a game like Battlefield, it might be a little more interesting.

Even this dude (a Nintendo employee) can't think of a better use of the controller screen other than the same gimmicks the DS pulled years ago.
Moffitt is not a game designer and he's not the person to think of uses for the GamePad. Are you seriously calling the DS a gimmick btw? Are you Jack Tretton and just arrived in a time machine from 2005?
Or I simply took the title from the original source =P
So you used the title knowing it was misleading.

That was only for messages that got flagged, or something like that, IIRC.

And only for Miiverse, Nintendo isnt going to monitor what happen on Activision servers. :lol

And im pretty sure, with the way Reggie talked about it, that you wont have to exchange friend codes to add friends to the Wii U console.

But anyway, keep reading just the title and mocking Nintendo GAF, you sure love to do this.

But Moffitt admitted the Wii U's controls were "confusing relative to the Wii".

"With a second screen controller, you need to see what's on the second screen, so by nature it's a more complex system," Moffitt concluded. "It's less visually easy to understand."

Oh god, why would anyone at Nintendo let alone a Marketing Executive say that!? Is this guy trying to doom the Wii U?

I do. Didnt the last COD game sell over 400,000 copies on the Wii?

Humm, there's gotta be some secret event coming up. They would have flat out said COD wasn't coming to Wii U if it wasnt. Rockstar didn't have a problem clearing the air lol..

Oh god, why would anyone at Nintendo let alone a Marketing Executive say that!? Is this guy trying to doom the Wii U?

I have been extremely unimpressed with Nintendo's PR for Wii U and Moffit isn't helping things.
