Nintendo: Wii U could become "preferred" Call of Duty platform

Well, I don't blame them. They are making 360-U controller for shooter (Hardcore) fans but they were hoping that people would preferred them because they have map on GamePad. They need to make up their mind which controller they want to support for shooting games.
Maybe they want to support several options and let each player decide for him/herself?

I certainly hope so, at least. Analog stick are archaic for aiming and the only way I will consider the game is if it has Wiimote support.

They seriously need to let 2 people go online together using a pro controller and the Wii-U gamepad... that would be bad-ass.

Remember, the gamepad has IR too - Its possible to have IR aiming using the gamepad.

Huge Nintendo fan...but I really doubt anyone would want to look down at a map/ look away from the screen during an MP match in such a fast paced game.

Just do normal black ops 2 with Wiimote+nunchuck controllers and Propad controls.

You can imagine how a game like Call of Duty would work on the Wii U - the GamePad will allow you to declutter the TV and pull gaming items like maps down and not interrupt your interaction and enjoy the cinematic quality of the game on the TV.

In multiplayer, it is very helpful to have the HUD on screen in your FOV. Just give it Wiimote option.

Is there an IR camera on the GamePad? I thought all aiming they've shown was handled by the gyrometer, which is not an adequate substitute. Regardless, aiming the GamePad is likely not as natural as aiming the Wiimote.

So we have around 25mil on Xbox/PSN for COD games every year and there are actually people here who agree with Motiff? LOL

And mark my words, Black Ops 2 for WiiU will be their BIG reveal at the WiiU conference/event

Wii controls made Wii my preferred platform for Call of Duty (and FPS in general).

Nintendo, make sure Wii U developers use the Wii Remote and Nunchuck for FPS and you'll have sold me on the system.

Obviously this depends on Nintendo's online (which is mostly still under-wraps) but I also think a huge problem is the fact that even IF Black Ops 2 is better on WiiU, I doubt the difference in quality will be big enough to create a major incentive to pull people away from their 360 and PS3 versions.

Other then that, Black Ops 2 on WiiU has the potential to be be better looking, better controlling, and have an actual worthwhile local multi-player experience if done right.

Yup that's what the masses want. Local multiplayer with cod. LOL

maybe the people that bough the call of Duty games on the Wii. Even those aren't that stellar compared to the sales on the other two consoles. The problem is that people already have developed friendbases on the other consoles. They even have things like clans and all of their level ups. The levelups are the most appealing part of CoD and I doubt most people want to leave all of their rankings behind.

I don't see why it wouldn't be better than the 360/PS3 version. A slight boost in graphics, the gamepad screen for extra info, and online built into the miiverse. It could very well be the 'preferred' version.

Because as far as we know Nintendo is more concerned about local multiplayer than online which is critical to COD. Until we see what their plan is there is no reason to think a Nintendo version would be better

Aahahahahahahahahahaha!

Welcome to the current generation Nintendo. Ever hear of friend's lists? Yeah, a lot of gamers will buy the version of CoD that their friends are playing, and no they're not going to ignore them for your pad. Besides, do I even want to be looking down on a second screen in the heat of a battle?!

Oh wow.

So first they confirm that friend codes will still exist on the U. Then they admit outright that they can't and won't try to catch up with XBL and PSN. And now this? Good god, how out of touch can you be?

He says (paraphrasing) "preferred platform for some gamers", not "the preferred platform for most gamers".

Did anyone even read the article? Or are you all just posting based on the subtly sensationalist threat title.

You do realize the COD series (at least now) is mainly about the online component right? Who in their right mind (unless WiiU is their only option) will play the game on the system that have no such install base in the first place? XBL and PSN already have the user base locked down and also will most probably offer a cheaper alternative to WiiU for first time buyers as well.

As for Graphics, this is COD we are talking about. They won't be that impressive no matter what the system, unless of course you think Activsion will actually spend a considerable amount of time and money on improved graphics for the WiiU (not gonna happen. It will be a port)

@the guy who keeps saying I didn't when I said I did

I did

But Nintendo wants to blaze their own trail, guys. They are not trying to be like everyone else. They are going to revolutionize COD and make it fresh again with their new controller. *obviously sarcasm*

If the game doesn't support pointer controls, then people are going to need to get 3 classic controllers to play this game. Plus there will be games that will require only Wiimotes. To get the complete Wii U experience you're going to need a crap ton of controllers.

What if Black Ops II gets Wii U exclusive DLC.

Like a mission where you have to save a young Shigeru Miyamoto, as Nintendo HQ is under attack by terrorists wanting to steal his schematics for Donkey Kong and re-engineer it to brainwash the masses.

I think it'd be good.

  • Friend codes don't exist in their current form and you don't need to enter them to add other users. If anything this is a good thing, as it means you can keep your friendships, but change your name whenever you want.
  • They didn't say that they wouldn't try to catch up with XBL and PSN, implying that they wouldn't try to offer something better... they intend to offer something different, and they hope better, without simply trying to copy everything that the other guys do.
  • Try harder

Yup. It's a tragic waste of space on the NeoGAF user database

3 misrepresentations in one paragraph!

Congratulations!

Uh, but not in the way you're thinking. They said friend codes don't exist in the same form as the Wii/DS/3DS. We're getting an account system.

Actually, I might be wrong but didn't they say they were gonna try a different approach?

If you're referring to me, I thought the definition from before would've been enough for you to understand what I was talking about.

If you really read what he said and understood the words, you would have realized that it's not a crazy statement at all. It is pretty unsubstantial and vague, but that's PR.

I wonder what percentage of PS3 owners really care about their friendlist to the point they could not consider to play on another console. I'd be generous with 20%. On x360, I'd say up to 50%.

Wii U should of course try to win over PS3 and x360 gamers. Not the most dedicated fans of these brands, but the others.

I don't see anyone else in disbelief about something simple as 'I did read' in this thread, so yes, I was referring to you

Not sure which part of the PR you are holding on to carry on with this vague statements, but my guess would be it's on the use of the word 'some'

There will be some who think Ninja Gaiden 3 is the best in the series. There will be some who think octopus flavored ice cream is better than chocolate. But if you think this PR is referring to such a minority, then you are flat out wrong.

But by all means, without the short vague responses, back up your claim if I am wrong here

Nintendo should shoot to have the better versions of big single player focused games like final fantasy instead of multiplayer games

They should cut a deal with Square-Enix to get FFvsXIII on Wii U and offer to publish it.

It might come out before 2020!

On a similar note, Nintendo's PR lately has been sporadic and without focus.

Anyone that wanted to play CoD this gen, did. Core Wii owners either played CoD on the Wii or on any other platform, why would CoD on the Wii-U appeal to core gamers more than before?

Unless what that Nintendo PR guy meant to say is the new CoD on the Wii-U will be more similar to the Xbox 360/PS3/PC versions, which I guess would be more appealing than what was on Wii before.

It seems like a neat idea, honestly.

But it'll serve them well to communicate to the COD audience that there are more benefits to the Wii U CoD experience outside of the Gamepad to establish it as the preferred platform for it.
