Nintendo: Wii U could become "preferred" Call of Duty platform

I'm not interested in slogging off companies, which may indeed by your inclination judging by your name. I could be wrong, but, rarely. I am, however, in tune with the facts - it's a fact Nintendo has been horrendous at every conceivable thing related to online. It's a fact Mii's are gross garbage. It's a fact my comment was asserting only what they'd need to do with their Wii U hypothetically in the future in order to make it Call of Duty's platform of choice, and that if you weren't kneejerking you wouldn't have viewed it as anything more.

Dem facts!

Amirox, you are being even more aggressive than usual. You doing okay?

Sitting here with a huge grin on my face. I'm sorry that you think passion is somehow a negative quality, to the point that you wonder aloud whether that means someone is angry or having a bad day.

No, if I'm spending even a minute posting on GAF, chances are I'm enjoying myself. I don't spend time with things I don't enjoy; I'm a hedonist.

Not that your question is genuine, but since you seem so concerned...

Dem facts!

They are facts, 'tis true. But I would love to see people try to argue eloquently in favor of Nintendo's online experience to date, or that they know better than I the reason I posted the comments I did before, or try to articulate at length as to why Mii's aren't gross - but I'm sure all three responses would just end with me laughing so hard that manly tears might be shed.

I'm curious, what do you mean by Miis are gross..

Sounds like a teenager describing something, but what do you mean exactly.

For those who actually used them, you're damned right.
apparently people somehow are oblivious to this; just because many won't use GamePad as the controller to begin with because they may not get CoD for Wii U or Wii U to begin with, doesn't mean it won't be the preferable method for those who do

No, it was sarcastic in this case. That said, I have many times stated that I respect your passion. Just think that your comments are ignored and/or mitigated by the antagonistic tone you employ. Passion does not equal antagonism.

Well technically they aren't facts. They are opinions. Ones I don't necessarily disagree with (I like Miis better then Home/Avatars but whatever), but still opinions.

IT'S A FACT!!! Heh.

Nintendo, for a smart company they sure are stupid. The only reason xbox is the prefered platform is because they get the dlc exclusively before everyone else. If you can outbid MS, then yes that might happen. Otherwise, good luck.

Really? People actually buy COD for the DLC exclusivity? When I still bought CODs, I bought the 360 versions because I didn't own a PS3 plus I was already paying for Live. Even if I had a PS3, Live would of been a much bigger factor then DLC exclusivity.

I might me totally wrong, but aren't COD gamers the so called "hardcore" gamers? This gamers usually like great graphics, why should this players buy a 8 year old graphical tech when they already have that in the ps3 or xbox360?

If anything, I think COD gamers are the very definition of casual gamers. Your typical COD gamer usually plays nothing but COD all year until the next yearly installment and usually has virtually no interest in other games/genres, particularly single player games. (this is just an anecdotally-based generalization)

"Hardcore gamers" is a term that doesn't really have an agreed-upon and concrete meaning, but when I hear the term "hardcore gamer" I think of people who own multiple consoles and/or a gaming PC and play dozens of different games a year across various genres.

For the typical COD gamer what matters most is the ease of use in connecting and chatting with their friends, and Microsoft's superiority in that regard is primarily what has made their platform the preferred COD platform.

The only reason xbox is the prefered platform is because they get the dlc exclusively before everyone else. If you can outbid MS, then yes that might happen.

This is simply not true.

Leave the Miis alone. They are cute, cuddly, and love us

I'm curious, what do you mean by Miis are gross..

Sounds like a teenager describing something, but what do you mean exactly.

I mean, it's gross. As in, it's artistically a offense on my senses. As in, as an avatar I'm saddened to have to be greeted by them when I turn on a Wii game. As in, I'd definitely rather use the nasty Microsoft avatars, but they're certainly better than Sony's horrifying PlayStation HOME avatars. As in, gross. Oversimplified mass production nonsense, wherein 'quality' design is always 'whatever does not offend the largest amount of people' rather than anything truly outstanding or making a statement. You get like three body sizes and like two shirt colors for christ's sake!

No, it was sarcastic in this case. That said, I have many times stated that I respect your passion. Just think that your comments are ignored and/or mitigated by the antagonistic tone you employ. Passion does not equal antagonism.

Then why did you choose my comments, which were addressing points raised in this topic and by other users, and not an actual antagonistic comment like snesfreak's, which literally dismissed any points being raised by me as 'hyperbole' not concerned with facts? One is an actually antagonistic comment; the other is a passionate dissertation on one particular opinion.

I get the feeling people only think this thing when the opinion is not one they share >:/

People can have wrong opinions. Like Nintendo's online not being shit!

His statement was pretty qualified.

"The Wii U could become the preferred way to play those games for some of the core gamers."

Emphasis added. For the subset of core gamers that like whatever the pad can add, it could indeed become their preferred way to play. I doubt that group will be all that large, but he didn't really say anything controversial.

Do you have a title you'd like me to use?

Lets see...
Miiverse revealed for Wii U
Nintendo's new online communication system focuses on the Miis

During Sunday's Nintendo Direct presentation, President Satoru Iwata revealed Miiverse. It looks as though Nintendo is expanding on the concept of the Miis that were introduced for the Wii in 2006 with a new system that will be an integral part of the Wii U experience.

Just as the Friend List can be accessed on 3DS without disrupting the gameplay, the same will also be possible on the Wii U to view the messages that friends have sent, so that the game can simply be paused in order to see the latest updates.

You seem quite salty. It's ok man, don't take these things so serious. They're just videogames.

CoD is basically 99% online multiplayer-based. With Nintendo's online track record they're not becoming the preferred CoD platform, even if they offer a superior gaming experience.

That's all bullshit.

Pointer controls are the best way to play call of duty games (and any other shooters). I wouldn't mind the gamepad screen standing on the table while playing with nunchuck and pointer.

Other than that, that's about it. Maybe with the Wii U Zapper.

If it's true that a Black Ops 2 version is being made for Wii U, it's scheduled to come at it's release, and was not announced at E3 conference, it just increase even further the failure factor from that.

If they integrate Call of Duty elite into the gamepad controller while you're playing, I could see the Wii U getting a pretty large COD user base.

But most people have their friends on xbox live, so they will likely continue to get it for 360.
Great idea. Are you reading this Kotick?

You could actually lock any Gamepad features it might have and then have them unlock with an elite sub. More sales.

I may be the minority here, but when I first saw the WiiU GamePad, i thought of COD. I mean using the GamePad for all the Killstreak airstrikes or remote cameras. It would be perfect. Nothing is worse than having to block your view to do an airstrike, and the touch screen would make it so much easier.

THAT SAID. Like most I would still probably play on XBL since there are so many of my friends on there already. But if WiiU is a success this holiday I might switch ;)

Your entire post is based on assumptions.

But the only way this could be incorrect is if Sony and Microsoft release new machines that are as powerful as...the 360 and PS3. History tells us that new consoles will be stronger than the last. So even if they are only twice as strong, they will still be about twice as strong as a Wii U.

I know we're still waiting for exact specifications on the Wii U, but we've had enough evidence from credible sources like developers to draw a conclusion that the Wii U is a current gen strength machine. It doesn't exponentially beat out the PS3 or 360.

I'm just going by industry history. The Wii did the exact same thing and it burned them with the multiplatform stuff.

with friend codes, I think not.
maybe if they had a actual online structure like xbla or psn then yeah I could see it possibly happening.

Could?
I had a million things about "yeah and blah could happen too" but it really just ...fuck I can't do it.

Looking away from the screen in an incredibly fast-paced online shooter like CoD is suicide (literally, it will kill you). The kills and deaths come soooooo fast with CoD. You're made out of paper and many times die in 1-2 shots in a split second. The Wii U pad would bring nothing to the table here.
