Ah, I see. Bummer. Are there any cheap recommendations for SD card and reader?? The Amazon Prime thing in a few days might have what I need.
You can get a SD card less than 2gb for pennies now, and an SD card reader for not much more.
Sorry, yeah I understand that, I was just wondering if anyone had a brand they preferred. I don't know much about these things. And if I was buying an SD card, maybe getting a more appropriate size since I could just put the games themselves on there?

I've gone all physical after initially starting out digital. Do we need to be on a certain firmware? I've not updated for ages.
man, I'd love to back up all my wii u games to my HDD.
one of the absolute best things about wii homebrew was getting my 50+ retail games backed up to a single HD. shame it'll probably open the doors for piracy as well though.

Argh, thanks. I'll have to check which FW it's on. I think my Wii U auto connects to the net when I switch it on. I have background downloading/updates off. Will I risk something auto downloading as soon as I switch it on?
Yes it will, unfortunately. Since I don't engage it in, I'm personally not that bothered. I hope there's some kind of disc verification though, like Dios Mios on Wii for GC games back in the day. Obviously this wouldn't completely stop piracy.

I think the 2 GB size is because you need one 2 GB or less to install the homebrew channel, so you'd need a 2 GB SD and then another one of your choice for games, or an external HDD with a Y cable and FAT32 formatted IIRC.

SanDisk is usually a safe bet. Make sure you buy direct from Amazon if you use the website, to avoid fakes.
Oh. I'm on 5.4.0E. Guess I'm SoL? Poopy. But the only homebrew feature I want is to enable the Wii U gamepad to be used as a controller in Wii games. So as long as I can't get that, I won't suffer for missing out
So ... a friend can't use a wiimote with a Classic Controller as his second player with the first also being a Classic Controller.

I have a question.
I'm using nintendont on my Wii through USBLoader gx. Most GC games work with the Force widescreen option or have native widescreen support.
Some however only work well with 4:3 (Skies of Arcadia).
Is there a way to make those few launch from the Usbloader on 4:3 ration so i wont have to look for my remote every time?

What SD card should I pick up? I want a 64gb one that is cheapish, from the UK and would prefer Amazon. Some links in the OP for recommended HDDs and SD cards would be perfect really. It has been such a ballache finding a HDD for my Wii U games, and now looking at SD cards for my backups. Any help appreciated.

30€ over here for 64 GB Transcend or SanDisk cards but I will keep my eyes open.
Edit: Oh, and I have been talking about my original Wii, not the Wii U.
Not sure, but FAT32 and NTFS are fine. SDXC should be alright too, but just format to NTFS if not.
Same for both Wii and U

you can just use the same payment and login details you use for amazon in your country. they all share the same accounts.
unless you don't use amazon at all. then yes, you need a debit/credit card.

I live in PAL land. If I run my PAL copy of Pikmin and try to force progressive, the game will run rather poorly.
Still really happy with Nintendont. I had a wave of euphoria run over me when I figured out how to import my old saves off a memory card. My first run through of Metroid Prime and I only got 79%. I will rectify this.

Question. Is there anyway to remap the buttons on classic controllers?
Arcade sticks on Wii have the left four buttons of eight (two in each row) to the face buttons. Neo Geo Virtual Console games map the four buttons to the face buttons obviously. The thing is the Neo Geo standard configuration would be four buttons in a row.

I finally bought a Wii U and it should arrive at my home tomorrow. I'm very excited but I have a question :
I imagine I will have to update the firmware and download a bunch of patches in order to play the games I bought online, will I still be able to install the Homebrew Channel and Nintendont if I do that ?

Yup!
It uses the "sandboxed" Wii mode, so there's no problem with WiiU updates.
As Nintendont and the HBC are all based on the vWii side of the Wii U, it's more than likely that Nintendo will never even bother patching them out. Wii U patches and updates should not (theoretically) affect Nintendont and the HBC.

you'll need one of the Wii games that can let you install homebrew though since those are the only working methods.

Okay but like, how does Nintendont load save files? What do I have to call the file with my saves in it?

It's best to just let Nintendont and Dolphin do all that for you. This is a variation on what I did, but it should be easier to do than what I did. Don't hold it to me though:
- Rip your memory card on the Wii using any type of card ripping homebrew. Afterwards, save it to your computer somewhere.
- In Nintendont on your Wii U, set the setting for single memory card instead of multiple (this "multiple" setting would make a new, fake card for each game) and then load any game and let the game "format" the memory card to create one. Afterwards, check your thumbdrive / harddrive/ etc. in your computer and look for the newest modified file, and it should be in the "saves" folder (Use a clean drive and paste only one game in it to keep things simple).
- Using Dolphin on your computer, load your Memory Card rip from the beginning into Slot 1, then load the memory card that Nintendont just made. If you're not sure which file, let Dolphin browse and you'll eventually find a compatible file in the drive.
- Copy the files from your ripped memory card into the Nintendont memory card.
- Paste the updated Nintendont memory card file back into the folder you got it from on your portable drive.
Theoretically you should be good to go at this point. I did it the harder way where I just made a new card for each of my games and swapped the files individually. If this method doesn't work, I can explain the harder way I did it in more detail.
As for the file names, it's the gibberish you'd see in online saves or game names like "D43E.raw" for me and it'd vary for each game, so it's best to just let Nintendont and Dolphin do the work for you.
Widescreen forcing is even better now, perfect in Smash Bros Melee and Twilight Princess:
It's also fantastic in Timesplitters 2...but unfortunately brings random crashes along with it in that game due to the increased rendering space. ah well.
