With the new Donkey Kong game, Nintendo now has 13 active first-party franchises

Astral Chain at 1440p 60fps would be peak.

Proud Of You Yes GIF

13?! Hoo-wee, that's a lot, one more than 12!

13 is A LOT for active first party IP. Especially when Mario alone has more than 10 sub-franchises

How many do Sony and Microsoft have? Microsoft may have a lot too, but that's because they bought Bethesda and Activision in the last five years. Sony probably only have 6-7 active 1st party IP, if not less

yup, they need to make Astral Chain sequel to make it a franchise. Better yet, they should just buy Platinum, they can have them make sequel to Bayo and Astral Chain
I want that sooo much.....I fucking LOVED the game...I need more Astral Chain in my life.

Tomodachi actually sold a lot, Detective Club is very niche
An active niche IP is still an active IP though right?

Amd if you're judging it by sales then you'd still need to add Rhythm Heaven. It sold over 3 million on DS and over 1 million on 3DS.

Detective Club is not a video game, more like graphic novel

I'm talking about gameplay, there's barely any gameplay in DC, you just read a lot of stuff in the game
That's a genre for almost as old as video games themselves, you can't just decide what is a game and what is not, come on

I despise this kind of games, but they are games nonetheless

Which are also video games. That's like saying Ace Attorney or Daganropa aren't video games.

And that still doesn't explain leaving out Rhythm Heaven.

they're not video game, interactive media maybe, but definitely not video game. There's no gameplay whatsoever

I don't count Labo, that's crap.

Until there's a confirmation of new Star Fox game, it remains to be inactive
Ok so it is just what you count not actually their active franchises.

Maybe why the Fit series is left out. WiiFit, Wii U Fit, Ring Fit,

And the Sports series as well. Wii Sports. Wii Sports U. Switch Sports.

Clubhouse games possibly a franchise.

Brain training/age maybe.

Rhythm Heaven.

Toad might be the start of a new franchise. Same with Miitopia and Peach.

Yoshi is missing.

Warioware.

Mario of course should be broken out into MK, MP, SM/SMB, M Sports and M rpgs ie rpg/paper/m&l.

Hyrule Warriors not 1st party.

First things first: make a new F-Zero based on GX
Second: launch a year later a big boy DLC having Star Fox characters and a little story, like would be a spin off
Third: a new Star Fox, but being a proper sequel, and having the speed of the N64 and not the Game Cube. SF Assault was slow and boring as shit

Toad, Peach, Yoshi, Wario are all part of Mario franchise, except for Luigi Mansion which is big enough now as its own franchise

Hyrule Warriors is collaboration between Nintendo EPD and Koei. So it still counts as 1st party. Nintendo EPD provides art direction, world setting, characters, story and dialogues, Koei is only in charge for combat mechanic.

Hyrule W still not first party. Of course Nintendo provides some direction since it is their IP.

Yoshi games bigger sellers than Metroid and Xenoblade.

Arms sold more than any Xenoblade game on Switch.

Toad is 5 places down the sales list from the best selling Xenoblade game.

btw the Fit and Sports franchises are the 11th and 13th best selling games on Switch.

Same games every year. No real new ip's.

Nintendo don't make the same games every year. As what kevboard kevboard said, more like every 5-7 yrs. But they do make different type of games with the same character, Mario. But that's just smart business decision, you got a popular, funny mascot, of course you want to exploit that as much as possible.

Watch Sony do the same thing with their new mascot, Astro Bot, they're gonna start making Astro Bot RPG, platforming, racing, etc
