Today, during a livestream dedicated to NiOh 2, Koei Tecmo provided an update about the sales of the original NiOh.

The news was announced by director Fumihiko Yasuda himself, who mentioned that the game has now shipped 2.95 million units worldwide.

Coming so close to 3 million copies is certainly a massive achievement for a new IP, especially considering the fact that some people still believe that games set in Japan won't sell well. Looks like gamers around the world are most definitely interested in stories about samurai, ninja, and youkai.

Earlier today, Koei Tecmo itself announced within its financials that NiOh Complete Edition continues selling well even today.

3 million is amazing, but the way it was received and hyped I would've actually expected more. But then again, it's a very specific niche market.

Great game, had fun with my time with it but it is a bit too big IMO.

I wouldn't say it was too big. The enemy and area variety was lacking as you got to the later stages of the game so it felt like it overstayed its welcome.

One thing that didn't overstay its welcome however was the combat. Fucking fantastic.

wish Nioh 2 was on PC, the idea of late PC port is so goddamn backwards to me but the fuckers know people will douple dip for the PC version

Guilty.

I have my weaknesses, this is one of them.

Having said that, I also did it both with Rdr2 and GTA V so I don't know what happened there...

Awesome! I love Nioh, and I wasn't surprised when Sony sent me the end-of-the-year report that it was my most played game, with over 220-240 hours. Looking forward to Nioh 2.

I almost finished this on PS4 when it first came out and recently picked it up again on PC. I've put in 10 hours so far, but man, I'm loving it. I think I like the combat more than Sekiro, honestly. The loot system needs improvement, but it's still a lot of fun. I think I'll actually finish it this time and try out the DLC.

Congrats to KT, it was one of my top 5 games of the decade. Love the souls formula + the more complex combat that made it feel unique. I feel that a lot of people that didn't like it never got far enough to really open up the combat system and see what a joy it is to play.

Yea I feel the same. It's one of my favourite games this gen but I never actually beat it just because I felt like I'd seen everything.

This is actually the only Souls-like game that I spent more than 5 hours with. Don't think it was as difficult as the others and played like a dream.

Got bored with it by the end and didn't finish it. Repetitiveness and huge lack of enemy variety was the last straw. Not a big fan of the loot system or main character either. The combat system and bosses were excellent though.

I enjoyed it for a while, but the game fizzled out for me in its second half. Suddenly throwing in so many historical figures without really spending much time to get to know them was confusing for me who doesn't know that much about the time period in Japan, and the low enemy variety was starting to get to me. I'm up for a sequel but hopefully they fix these issues.
