As always, it's best if book readers post in the other thread. Thank you for your cooperation.

- Regular TV thread rules apply:
- Once something airs in the US on the East Coast, it's fair game. Feel free to discuss anything that has aired without using spoiler tags.
- Anything that hasn't aired yet should be spoiler tagged including information from HBO previews, loglines, trailers, interviews, and a few other places.
- Speculation from people that haven't read the books is fine and encouraged.
- For the non-book readers using this thread:
- If you have any questions about plot points or want clarification on something, feel free to send a PM to any of the helpful volunteers (see below) and ask them.
- If you're curious about how things unfolded differently the book, please use the other thread.
- For the book readers that want to lurk in this thread:
- No taunting or teasing:
e.g. "Oh, just wait until you guys see what happens to him next week!!!"- No leading questions:
e.g. "What do you think will happen to this character by the end of the season?"- No comparing the book to the show:
e.g. "Well, that's different than in the book where they..."- Answering questions is fine when the information is readily available from what has aired on the show.
e.g. Q: "Wait, how is Robb related to Ned?" A: "Robb is Ned's son."
The bottom line is that this thread was created for people that haven't read the books to enjoy and discuss the television show. Keep their interests in mind and let them enjoy the show on their own terms without constantly pestering them. In general, there isn't a good reason for book readers to post in this thread. Thanks for your help.
I was curious about this because I thought Joffrey said something about his uncle's blood bt didn't quite make it out.The Kingsguard who sliced Tyrion is the same one whom Tyrion humiliated in court by threatening him with death via Bronn earlier in the season. Whoever got him to attack Tyrion, if he didn't just decide to on his own, probably didn't need to do much convincing.
Stannis is Joffrey's uncle too (well, except not). That's who he was talking about in that line.I was curious about this because I thought Joffrey said something about his uncle's blood bt didn't quite make it out.

Of course. I keep thinking of Joffrey as Jaime's kid and forget the Baratheon connection.Stannis is Joffrey's uncle too (well, except not). That's who he was talking about in that line.
the killing of renly may have been "unclean" but renly was being a twat, as Stannis did have the rightful claim no matter how unloved he was and how loved renly was. doing it that way spared both sides from losing manpower to fight the lannisters. i gotta say i may be the only one but i kind of like stannis as a character.
i'm only at the beginning of book 2 so i haven't yet gotten to all the details
Thanks.
Yep. He's an interesting character who hasn't yet caused me to hate or love him. his character solely demands respect. He truly does, by the rules, deserve the throne most and he's one brave and strong badass.
It was a member of the Kingsguard who turned on Tyrion, as you could tell from the armor. I'm not sure if the show will say explicitly who it is in the next episode, but we'll wait for episode 10 just in case.
Wait, WHAT?
What did you guys think of that sick wildfire explosion? That shit was so insane lookin', goddamn
Tyrion kicked so much ass this episode--speeches! Glorious charges! And Bronn like a boss with the flaming fucking arrow to set the whole thing off. Wish we could've seen Bronn and the Hound fight, he would've kicked that dog's ass.
Was like a fucking baneling bust
As Angry Grimace pointed out, the guy who went after Tyrion was the same guy that Joffrey had told to be his Representative on the battle field and follow his uncle, a one Ser Mandon. You could tell by the armor he was wearing, since he is the only character to have that armor.
Loved how we got a little contrasting their fighting styles too. Hound is hacking away with lumbering brute force. Then we see Bronn's speed as he's cutting people down. so good.
That was probably realistic, actually. The Hound bifurcating people with his sword, on the other hand...
Oh man. So fucking worth saving the budget for that shit. SO AWESOME.
I hope Onion Knight survived, though. :/

I was surprisingly glad to see Cersei not poison her kid. Too horrible even for her.
Sansa really should've gone with the Hound. Come on, gtfo of King's Landing while you have the chance. Wonder if she would've decided differently if she'd known they'd win and she'd be stuck with the Joff?
Wait, WHAT?

I hope that preview doesn't indicate what I think it does. That Sansa doesn't escape with The Hound. Damnit can't that girl catch a break?
Cerci getting drunk and fucking with Sansa was also pretty great.
That's what it looked like. I can't blame her for being afraid to go with the Hound, but she really fucked up.
The whole Melisandre thing is still kinda weird to me. I get that Stannis wants to be the one to win the battle so he's viewed as King Shit, but when you have a trump card that consists of a demon-birthing sorceress, why not abuse the shit out of it?
I dunno if a barely tangible shadow assassin thing that can materialize at will can take on an entire army, but it probably would have been helpful to have one on your side, or whatever else Melisandre's got up herskirtsleeve.
Go back and watch the scene from last week again. Tywin never says where they're marching, just that he wants to leave that night so they would have an entire night to march before Robb knows they're moving.Amazing episode.
I'm confused about Tywin ending up at King's Landing. Last we saw he was at Harrenhal and was heading out to intercept Rob. Was that all a ruse because he figure out who Arya was or is there just a big time gap where stuff happened that hasn't or won't be shown?
Good point.Go back and watch the scene from last week again. Tywin never says where they're marching, just that he wants to leave that night so they would have an entire night to march before Robb knows they're moving.
Good point.
...Also was that Loras at the end there?

Er, what makes you think its all that easy to summon? Or even all that useful in a battle? The whole Melisandre thing is still kinda weird to me. Yeah looks like Tywin did some extra work while gone.
This is why I never interrupted the conversation in here last week when people were talking about where Tywin was going. Technically I would have been following the rules pointing out he never said where he was going but that would have ruined the surprise tonight.Went back and rewatched, you are correct, he doesn't actually say what he's planning to do. He also says "a king who runs won't be a king for very long, he's a Lannister he'll stand and fight" hehe.
Loras dressed in Remly's armor. In the book characters thought Remly's ghost was fighting in the battle. The show sort of glanced over it.Good point.

They should be okayhttp://insidetv.ew.com/2012/05/27/game-of-thrones-blackwater-2/
Reading this interview with Benioff and Weiss about the behind the scenes on this episode made me strangely nervous about HBO giving them the proper budget going forward for this show, since I assume many battles will end up taking place that will rival the significance of this one. I mean maybe not but I assume so.
I mean the interview seems to be in praise of HBO, but I came away still thinking that HBO might not ok another big scale episode like that.....then again I don't know if that will be needed but common sense tells me it probably will be.
I just loved this episode so much that if the rest of the series is a bunch of big battles that all end up taking place off screen would be horribly disappointing.....but I'm by my nature a pessimist about TV companies.
Bronn (Jerome Flynn) was a pop star?

Wait I didn't know it was implied or stated that Sansa DIDNT go with Sandor?
Did I miss something?
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
Didn't the prostitute complement Bronn's voice at the beginning of the episode?
Damn, you really have to be on your toes with this show. Glad you didn't say anything, even if I spent a week needlessly fearing for Robb and his hot girlfriend.Go back and watch the scene from last week again. HOLY FUCK at that scene. I'm really curious to see if the movie will make any explanation of who that was or why he turned on him, I have no idea wtf happened there. Apart from it being epic and the series just going with the "let's kill every likeable character" theme.
