It's the same. Combat is not the focus. And before combat i think they should improve exploration.

Too bad. I hope Hello Games revamp it in future updates. Exploration too, although it is pretty solid at the moment. Combat sorely needs an update imo. more variety to enemies too than just drones.

Yeah I think that would entice a whole new fanbase if they added a combat/bounty hunter path with interesting enemies and missions. To the people that say "eh, its not about that. It's a chill game" I completely disagree.
Why?
Clearly, at one point in development, the combat path was an OPTION. Sean talked about late in development. And there are zero valid arguments against an aggressive path so long as it doesn't affect players who don't want to participate in it, but people are just defending it to the death.
Before multiplayer was added people were arguing that it's just a "solo experience, and its "fine" as is, that multiplayer would ruin the point of the game.
lol now people are playing it together and having a blast. Same with base building and VR. People just need to get over the fact that not everyone likes the game as is, and the aspects that are currently in the game don't appeal to many. It's not "wrong" for Hello Games to find ways to lasso more of those players into their universe so long as it's not forced on everyone.
Its a cool game as is, but so much more can be added, and probably will be.

PC update has been iffy for me so far, though I've not tried today's updates.

I had binding issues with an Xbox One controller, and some strange terrain generation and texture level of detail lag.

Though, I've just found this suggested fix, which seems to have been working for people. Just in case anyone else is having similar issues.
 
360 Controller is working fine for me, though it did not work on my first boot up of Beyond yesterday. Update has been stable for me today. Chat in Nexus is working as well.

Now I have to figure out what I want to do.

Wow. This all sounds great.

I didn't wanted to buy the game first because it looked boring and because it was not what was originally promised, but after reading all this does it sound like what promised before it release and more. It looks very interesting.

Even with its niggling teething issues, the VR experience is amazing on PC. The sense of scale is incredible.

Once they can patch it to run in true direct mode it will be amazing. Luckily there's some work arounds at the moment that brings it a step closer to what it will become in VR.

Bruh. You're in for a treat. It's almost a full blown sequel to that launch experience at this point.

Full base building, including NPC "staff" with their own terminals, speciality, and missions. Power management and electrical wiring. Portals can take you to and from different systems, space stations, and other people. Bases can be built anywhere, and you can have multiple.

Various types of land, and aquatic vehicles. Your own Freighters, with fleets of fighters that are under your command.

Numerous intertwined story lines, with lore, characters etc.

Intricate upgrade tree for both crafting, and technology.

Had my first taste of The Nexus tonight too. It's gigantic. Lots of new shops and interesting characters. Lots of REAL people running around talking, and doing missions.

It's all just fucking incredible.

I have the Sony PSVR but how do I boot the game into regular non-VR mode? Do I just unplug the VR? Thanks!

If you are in VR mode you will need to close the game, turn off your headset and then start the game again.

There isn’t a way that I know of to switch in game. If you turn off the headset while the game is still running you get an error telling you to turn it back on.

Booted it up and son, I am disappoint. My base is totally wrecked and overgrown with weird plants. Nothing works because now you need electricity so all of my plants are dead. I can´t hire a technician because it´s bugged out, and although I talk to a technichian in the place I´m supposed to be, no option to hire him comes up. The framerate is all over the place, the draw distance is a joke and it is an overall buggy mess. The only good thing is that they´ve upped inventory management so now you can hoard big time, and that is fucking great.

I think I´m gonna wait on a few more patches. Or maybe wait for a PS5 release. As it is now, the technical issues just sabotages my immersion with the game. It needs better tech.

That’s insane! It would be wise to start from a fresh save then, yeah?

Even though I had a maxed tool, and almost max backpack unlocks, but it was all in the original before any updates.

Fully understand if you do not think it is not your job, but please help developers help gamers by reporting bugs. Reality of modern software, especially the massive procedural kind is that it is very difficult / nearly impossible to catch everything and HG has been quite good at delivering patches very very fast to players.

I totally agree. A bounty hunter path would be awesome. Would be so cool if you could get missions that involve hunting down players/Npcs on other planets. I mean, sometimes you get hunted by space pirates that want your loot, why shouldn´t we as players get an option like that too? They could create a whole new bounty hunter guild. There are so many possibilites with this game and I hope Hello Games really invest more time in refining the combat and including missions like that. Would add a lot of variety to the gameplay loop.

Last night's update made a huge difference. Where I had crashes every 30 seconds with the original Beyond update Wednesday night, last night I played about 2 hours and had only one crash, so good job there.

Flying does feel a bit better. the additional inventory space is very welcome. I have not checked out many of the changes to the single player experience yet. I did notice my base now needs power.

It has been quite a while since I really played this game seriously and I have a couple of questions.

1.) Warping to bases from the nexus. All of the bases I have warped(only 5 so far) to so far are at least 700,000 LY from the center of the galaxy I'm in. My base is around 580,000 LY from the center. Has anyone using the nexus portal warped to anything closer to the center, like under 300,000 LY?

2.) Freighter -I got a freighter way back when that update came out. I don' recall if that was before or after Atlas was added. I believe that if my freighter has no warp ability currently I cannot add it in now, correct?

3.) Monoliths - when you put in a code and warp somewhere else in the galaxy the monolith stays powered up. If you go into space in the new location and try to access the galaxy map you get a message about portal interference and the map is not accessible. Is that supposed to happen? I would have liked to use the monoliths to get much closer to the center of the galaxy. Might this be because I put in an invalid address and got sent somewhere randomly, maybe legitimate addresses work?

GOG version 2.06 works perfect with controller so now i can play it in real beauty as it supose to be on PC. froma start again yes but i will do it on another planet so it will be different.
yes PS4 Pro on supersampling looks really great but it doesnt match PC version even on medium settings.

Oh, thanks. I've read something but I didn't notice this discussion. Will try later if it actually effects performance, even though It was already running quite fine.

It’s a little daunting hoping back into my old game, so much I need to fix on my base and other stuff, not sure where to start..
the grass texture is popping up out The floor in my base.. would it help to remove it and put it back again?

But was fun going home in VR. Got a whole new perspective on my base😊

Can't stop playing tho'. :messenger_hushed: Finally found a nice trifecta planet to settle down: no predators, no extreme conditions and no goddam sentinels constantly snooping around; just green hills and white beaches and sunny weather all year long.

Not a bad game, all in all. Not at all. (y)

Despite the jankyness of online play (still), i'm really loving this update. More for the VR experience. Flying ships is nothing short of amazing. The depth and sense of scale is bang on. Hoping things improve further with future updates.

I actually ripped the headset off briefly when passing by a ringed planet today, something about the scale boggled my mind. Crazy shit, because nothing close to that happens when viewing my 70inch 4K set.

Some planers can be so pretty with tall grass trees palmea all arround nice cosy temperature but then so annoying attacking small animals like wolfs , and they never learn you just keep shooting them... But man so pretty that pc version so crisp and detailed . I would imagine how vr would blow my mind even more, some day some day...

Every new expansion is bringing additional sales, on top of a healthy dose of initial sales, and “Next” in particular opened up a new market, Xbox One, but the truth is that instead of running away with all the money they are pouring money back into support of the product as they promised (HG is not exactly a super large corporation trying to bleed customers dry like EA, Activision, Vivendi, or Ubisoft) ... I know, not exactly common these days :).

My problem with playing in VR Is I get sidetracked so easily.. I set my mind on trying to complete stuff from the mission log.. but then I find a cave I want to explore.. so my home base is still with out power.. :p

They're a very small team that sold millions of copies of a $60 game. Even if we are conservative and say they only got $15 of every full priced copy sold near launch, it's still 10s of millions of dollars. The game was a pretty big financial success despite any critical reception.

Is there PVP in NMS? after having a quick go in VR, I feel VR users would be at a disadvantage in space combat with motion controls, not so much with a controller.
I switch over to normal controls when flying now... it was fun for a while grabbing the stick and flying off, but it’s just not precise enough when in combat or just flying since there is no tactile feedback of gripping the sticks.. so it’s great that you can just switch on the fly😊
And I’m sure then none VR players would be at a disadvantage:)

That is a very good point, I didn't even think about switching to controller on the fly.

PC players should have been given the option to fly with the sticks on their Index/Touch controllers. That would be much more elegant than us console players alternating between dualshock and moves.

I do wonder exactly how much profit they made after paying up all the cost up to release (if the founders ended up mortgaging their properties to put more funds in the studios and they had repairs, flood, to do... etc...).

ohh wow why i didint thought of that ... i think you could i mean why not not on them maybe but near ... it would be amazing thing to do ... i must try that later , thought first i need to find that place now again. i found another similar to those ruins on top of some large hill too, it would be amazing place to build small house if its possible like as close to it as you can

My Rift S came yesterday, a purchase fuelled by this game and I’ve no regrets whatsoever. It really does need to be played to understand how awesome it is. Picked up the game half price from Steam too - gutted to leave my Xbox save behind but this shit is worth starting a new game for.

The world feels fucking huge! Aiming the manipulator is so natural and the creatures that tower over you really do appear massive.

Some of these experiences have near brought me to tears - combining both the game AND the tech of my 80s childhood dreams. So damn happy I went for it 😭

I cam across one of these "dig sites" the other day on a frozen planet. Though it was so cool to excavate the old ruins, I'm really hoping I come across more of these.

It just weird that once yoy left some place you wont get any marking where youv been so you could visit that again maybe. Like those old ruins i left there and now i circle around and cant find that place anymore. Why could it be still markings on map from those? And scanner inside ship does nothing at all .
