Everything that Hello Games ever claimed to be in the game appears to be in here. That’s a very important distinction that some people may have a difficult time understanding. The unfortunate side effect of all the hype that No Man’s Sky received over the past three years since its explosive introduction to the world at E3 2013 is that it couldn’t possibly live up to everyone’s expectations.

We live in a world of entitlement; some people feel that No Man’s Sky is their game, and that it should fulfill some grand vision of theirs. The only problem with this way of thinking is that this has always been Sean Murray’s vision, as has been his right as the developer. The game released when he was happy with it. It’s his (and his team’s) galaxy; we just get to play in it.

Did Colin Moriarty write this shit?

I'm gonna throw up

Why? They released the 4 gameplay pillars trailers prior to release. Am I missing something that he promised was in the game that isn't? And I don't mean something subjective like "this trailer showed a giant creature and we haven't seen any yet so they must have lied.

Did you miss the huge thread on the supposed lack of multiplayer or what?
Someone gave it a good score, he must be an idiot/fanboi/biased reviewer /s
There's giving out a good score and there's making the professional equivalent of LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE

"THIS GAME IS LITERALLY EVERYTHING THAT WAS PROMISED 9/10" is not a review, it's damage control.

Could this be one of the best-selling terribly rated games? I see quite a few people on my friend's list playing this, and most of them are not gaffers. It seems to have some decent sales, at least anecdotally from what I can observe.

Did you miss the 250 times Sean said that it is not a multiplayer game and that the odds of someone finding someone else was astronomical? Yes, I know two players found eachother and couldn't see one another. Might have been a bug, server issue, who knows. The FACT is he never led anyone to believe they would be teaming up with their friends. If people expected that, then that is on them for not paying attention.

Yall gotta chill man.

Its one dudes impressions of a game, wow.

Hmmm... you've suddenly got me wondering where are all those Neogaf members that positively rage in defense of reviewers' opinions at right now? I mean... they seem to be everywhere if someone disagrees with the likes of an Uncharted review, so...

Did you miss all the times he said that you could play with your friends?

Then stick to the impressions. Save the BS for PR.

Dude... Its a game that clearly has baggage - its hard not to address that as youre playing it. It definitely colored my experience with the game for better or worse, its his prerogative as to how to address it.

Yes, link please where he says anything beyond "technically it's possible". Again he says "the chances are incredibly rare". "The likelihood is tiny". And guess what you CAN play with your friends because it's a shared universe.

Your own link is defeating your argument. What he says in that video is contradictory so who knows.

True enough. Though I kind of wonder if he had said anything if this review was made pre release.

Additionally I don't really consider it worth remarking that the game is as described. He couldn't find any other positives?

"omg this positive review is TRASH! How could he say such things, I'm going to throw up"

I really don't like picking apart of reviews that happens for reviews that are either positive or negative in these threads, but its super baffling when its by people who havent played the game.

That is pretty funny how that turned out

Yep, it's a review thread, lol.

This review just spiced things up.

What else do you need other than that? Technically it's possible because you can't just queue up in a party and teleport to the same spot in the universe, but if you manage to meet up then it should absolutely be possible. Except it happened at launch day and it doesn't work, which is the whole crux of this thing.

Read the paragraph quoted from the review again. It's not a matter of positive or negative, it's nauseating fart sniffing at its finest and therefore pretty fucking funny.

And it is very, VERY clearly pointed out by him over and over and over that it is not the focus of the game, that is is extremely small of a chance that a meet up would even happen. If someone buys a game based on a 1 in a million chance of seeing another player then that is on them for having unrealistic expectations. Their is no fifth gameplay pillar of "Multiplayer".

That being said, they will definitely add it eventually. Just seems inevitable.

But when people were saying similar stuff about Jim they were called all kinds of defense forces so I mean.. ironic in a way

I forgot which mod wrote it here, but these review threads - especially for certain games - bring out the absolute worst in GAF.
Yup. People can't take a good score just as much as some can't take a bad score
Huh, how curious that the two sites to give the game its highest scores so far have the word Playstation in their web address.

Can't be just a coincidence, could it?
Wow

5 scores updated so far

I have played more than 15 hours now. But I am not sure if I am playing because I like it or because I am waiting for it to get good.

Just another five hours to go!

Expected, I don't understand how this game was so overhyped.

Being featured so prominently at Sony's conferences helped and hurt it, it got a lot more exposure and hype than it would otherwise have received but people love to shit on hyped games, even more so when they're console exclusives.

They really would have been better off without the E3 stage imo, people would have been more forgiving and reviews like that IGN one would have gone up yesterday with a relatively positive verdict rather than getting dragged out to the point where reviewers start getting bored.

This thread is entertaining. Strong confirmation bias going on here like reaaaal bad

*looks below* Oh you!

IGN Spain doesn't have the word Playstation and gave it a 9.

The interviewer straight up asks him if you can play with your friends and he says yeah.

Don't you think the fact that the've given so many contradictory comments on the matter and have failed to follow up with anything concrete is a problem?

EDIT: Sic the crackachu's on me. I'm late, lol.

Ouch. Jim Sterling gave it a 50/100.

God, it seems the game is a full package of everything I feared about it!

"My disappointing experience with the dinosaur has come to exemplify No Man’s Sky‘s biggest problem – everything is so obviously faked, so unabashedly illusory. The universe is devoid of credible, tangible life. For as much as the game promises dynamic adventures, everything is scripted, static, held in place like cardboard cutouts in a fairground ride.

(...)

Every new location is just a different colored home for the same old routine, and the procedural generation means that things feel far less diverse than they could be – when randomized pools replace handcrafted designs, the lego bricks piecing everything together are far too obvious."

And that is probably the biggest of any big issue the game seems to have. The reason why I wasnt that hyped cause I've seen stories like that before... Expected, but still sad!

I would much prefer a much more limited number of planets with at least some handcrafted environments rather than a gigantic procedurally generated world where everything feels the same.

Maybe the game should have been a "walking simulator" type, instead of adding a bunch of not well done gameplay features.

People are basing their purchase on a Meta based on 5 reviews, 3 of which are from sites I have never even heard of?

better that they base their purchase on marketing hype. Good thinking.

*obviously people should watch streams, etc, before buying a game. But buying a game based on the reviews of sites you've never heard of is not less crazy than pre-ordering a game based on nothing but advertising.

But when people were saying similar stuff about Jim they were called all kinds of defense forces so I mean.. ironic in a way

Well that's stupid as well. I'm not making fun of that quote because the review is positive, but because the person sounds like they're one step away from buying a plane ticket to fellate the fucking dev.

I didn't read the whole and don't care to read any further reviews since I've played the game myself anyway and thus formed my opinion, I just get the juicy quotes here. My entire stake in it was gladly only 'should I buy it or not'.

I think you need to take Jim Sterlings review with a pinch of salt tbh. I don't think I've ever seen him enjoy a survival game, he literally gets bored after 5 minutes with all of them

I think the problem I have is the game is rarely challenging. Gathering resources and inventory management are your survival elements outside of the random rare attack from pirates or a planet with pissed off sentries. The game is a walk in the park for the most part and that makes it not as interesting as actual survival games. When I found out that original streamer didn't die once in 30 hours, I was really worried that the lack of challenge and danger would translate to a weaker game and really it has.

I know you want the game to be accessible, but come on.

I mean, that's understandable, but what you said you wanted is simply not possible with their limited studio size and wasn't what the concept of the game was about.

Because personally I wouldn't have wanted hand crafted planets to explore, if it was all scripted I wouldn't be nearly as excited to get the game.

I see it as no more of a problem than Ubisoft releasing footage of a game looking better than the final product, (this doesn't just happen with Ubisoft, it happens a lot in general).

I am enjoying the game for what it is and because he said that it isn't a multiplayer game probably 3-400 times prior to release, I never expected to be able to find my friends, etc.
