Looking at this it sounds that playing before the release was really a bad idea. I am kinda glad I'm quite broke at this moment, since I am finishing my apartment (developing big-ass backlog obviously). It will be my first purchase to testride my new couch.

Question. What does "server wipe" mean? He says right in that link that people can continue playing their pre patch save file if they choose, so what exactly is a "server wipe", and why should anyone hold off playing if it doesn't affect save files?

Any discoveries and named planets for example. Server keeps the discoveries and the changes made to the universe by players). Also, warning: if you keep playing with your pre-patch save you wont see the stuff added in the patch. You need to start a new game for that

Not sure what I should do, part of me wants to get the retail version so that if I were to end up not liking the game I can return it / sell it, on the other hand I could buy it of the US PSN store ( EU here ), and start playing it tomorrow and won't have to bother with switching discs.

I doubt there is any cross-platform play considering game isn't out at same time on all platforms. PC version should be on same servers no matter what retailer you use for it.
