I am currently on a planet that has so many monoliths, ruins, tons of suit slot upgrades and different multi tools. There are no animals or plants on this planet and resources are minimal at best.

Pop in really doesn't bother me but I wish animals could be visible while on ship.

Unless i'm wrong, they only pop on foot, so searching that last animal can be really hard.

wtf. peeked into the other threads and they are aflame. Gaf off its meds or what.

It boggles my mind how many people are making a big deal over the "can't see other players" thing. It's like the pre-order cancelled meme came to life and went serious.

Because there seems to be an assumption that if people criticize the game's survival and procedural elements, the person criticizing must not like those things, and therefore the game is not "for them."

I like survival games, and I am very curious about procedural generation. I have many problems with the way NMS handles these things, not least of which the fact that the procedural generation doesn't actually seem to have a logic to it (i.e there are no conditionals in the creature generation to make them fit their environment, etc)

Is the game "not for me" or am I allowed to criticize it?

I was never super hyped for this because I never thought it was going to be as amazing as people expected. Between procedural generation and the vast scope of the in-game universe, there were clearly going to be limitations on what we were going to see in-game.

There is a difference between criticizing real problems and not picky criticizing for the sake of confirming an already held negative bias. And I think the "it's not for them" defense is often directed at people who are clearly feeling the latter.

It's a weird thing that presents itself in video game discussion that we, as fans, tend to gravitate towards extremes. Either a game is BEST GAME EVER or it's 0/10 shit sux lol. So legitimate criticisms are often times met with immediate dismissal because people are assuming others discussing the game must fall into the latter category if there is any criticism at all.

You've upgraded your suit so many times from one planet? Did you just keep finding suit upgrades or are you allowed to use them more than once?

There are drop pods everywhere on this planet. I found them every time I scanned for a shelter. Yes, I upgraded my suit to 21-slot o this planet alone.

So I got an alert when I entered a new system that there was an abandoned building on a planet. So I went there and it was under water. I dived down and couldnt find any entrances to it.

Sorry I dont have a picture right now as I'm at work, but has anyone come across something like this? Why would the game mark it if I cant reall enter or do anything with it?

EDIT: There is a building underwater but there are no doors, sorry if that was confusing.

Atlas pass question:

So I'm 8 jumps in along the storyline, and I've visited 2 of those big diamond Atlas stations. I got an Atlas stone and two warp cores from both of them, but no Atlas Pass blueprint. I've done some reading, and apparently after the first Atlas station you're supposed to have gotten a waypoint to a "secret" station, and a guy there gives you the blueprint? That never happened to me. Has my game bugged? Is there another way to get the Atlas blueprint?

So there's really no way to get back/find to a place you discovered right? Outside of remembering where it was or pulsing when you get close?Trying to find a space station that was outside of the planet I'm currently on and nothing going.

I can't even find my starting system again, and I'm only two systems away. :(

This game has its hooks in me, man. I drop hours into this game every time I sit down to play it. It's going to be really hard to start over on the PC version.

At first I was going really slow and exploring the shit out of every planet, but... stuff happened and now I'm making 3-4 system length jumps at a time (though I'm still at least discovering the planets in the systems I land in just to claim them and check what resources are there). Sometimes I'll still spend like an hour or so on an individual planet when it seems like they have a lot of Knowledge Stones or particular resources I'm trying to build into, but otherwise I'm chucking myself through the galaxy.

Same. At first I was kind of disinterested...but then I got an
Atlaspass V1
and everything changed. I did a few jumps where I skipped over a few systems entirely but mostly I play through and look for stuff.

The biggest change was being able to make the warp cells easily. Once I was able to do that I started to play more and get more hooked.

That happened to me like 4 times on a watery planet. I've had waypoints appear over water, dived down and nothing was there.

Is there a way to remove waypoints other than visiting them?

Is there an easy way to save images in game to share with friends and GAF? Didn't know where to ask this so sorry if off topic or whatever. /=

Is there any way to improve the walking speed?

It's way too damn slow, and after five hours it's starting to grow intolerable.

Try pressing and holding R1 (melee) and X (jetpack) at the same time whilst moving forward for a little boost. I find it's made traversal a bit more tolerable.

I have to pause and rub my head everytime I find a monolith or plaque at the bottom of the ocean, kinda wish the sprint worked underwater for a faster swim speed

man holy shit my graveball planet is mad money lol good over 4 mil now... getting close to 50 exsuit slots...

when you place upgrades of the same type the link lights up. Im not sure how much of a boost you get but it seems to do something when that happens. seen it with the mining laser for example.

The inability to move upgrades between slots makes this such a chore. Have to dismantle what's already there (which doesn't get you as much as it costs to craft, I think?), craft the new thing, and then re-craft the old thing in a different slot. This along with the inability to even see what you could craft if you don't have a free slot is just ugh. If I want to just see what blueprints I might have for my multitool I first have to dismantle an existing upgrade. Then, if it turns out I have nothing better, I have to craft the thing I just dismantled again. What is that. Why can't I view my blueprints outside of the crafting menu, which is only available if you have empty slots?

So I didn't complete the tutorial. Just bought a hyperdrive equipped ship and left. I don't seen to have a hyperdrive blueprint - is there any way to get one after the fact? I mean I don't think I really need one, as every ship I look at has a hyperdrive but it's niggling me, lol.

I hope it's not bugged out, but I got the warp reactor tau blueprint, and its not showing up in my ship technology list to build, either in the "All" or "Hyperdrive" tabs. Am I missing something obvious? I even know the exact materials I need from when I picked it up, but now I can't build it!

Havn't been this hooked to a game for many years. Just looking at the stars knowing I could go into my ship and fly to them is one of the best feelings a game has ever giving me.

At the moment I'm looking forward to find a planet with some life. The last 5 planets I've visit have been completely barren Moon and Mars like planets.

man holy shit my graveball planet is mad money lol good over 4 mil now... getting close to 50 exsuit slots...

Sounds like a place I desparately need to visit so I can get double my ship inventory. Exosuit is already near 50 as is, which makes running around much easier.

Seems like a huge oversight that there are not land vehicles, walking / running is getting miserable.

Not to mention some goofy physics based land vehicle shenanigans would be fun.

Should I buy a 19 slot ship for 500K or should I wait for a better deal? I can't stand the original ship no more lol

meh i did is the cool ass looking one the looks like it has and F16 noise but less pointy its red it has 19 slots and it was 600k i replace my dlc ship with it

fashionship 😎

sad the ships with alot of slots are fucking lego blocky ugly ass messes... 😖

I just found a planet that was COVERED in these green Venus fly trap things that I could open, and had a big pearl inside worth 27,500 units. I'm talking like 20-30 of them within 30 seconds of my ship. Sentinels would go to level 3 when I grabbed one so I had to be quick, but filled up all my slots and did about 3 runs back to the space station to sell them.

Also I have a lot of negative criticisms of the game when I'm not playing it, but as soon as I start playing I forget it all and lose myself in it for hours.

That's a small Quality of Life thing that would make this game SO much more enjoyable and less frustrating.

Boggles my mind how something like that wasn't already implemented- surely playtesting would have revealed that being able to move upgrades around in your inventory is a great idea?....

So, any starting tips for us PC players when we finally get our hands on it? Please feel free to spoiler tag anything you feel necessary.

Hm... my tips based on how I started out:

- Maybe wait to redeem the pre-order ship until you have learned the hyperdrive and antimatter recipes. This actually didn't wind up messing with my progression really - I just bought a different ship before leaving the first system, then wound up scanning the planets from space to find the quest locations to receive them - but it's not really worth messing with as the pre-order ship doesn't do much for you anyway. I'd only redeem it after getting those recipes just to get rid of the notification that you have it available.

- Resist the urge to mine everything around you. Resources abound everywhere and you have limited space. Focus on looking for resources you need to activate upgrades for your equipment as you get them, as well as high-value items (in the early game, this is generally neutral elements like Gold, or trade items).

- For upgrades, linking the upgrades to their base item seems to improve their effect. This is why the inventory shapes will look weird at first with slots being in different positions. Keep this in mind when upgrading your ship, as the core components of a ship cannot be destroyed and rebuilt in a different slot. I don't really know how this works on the exosuit - you can link certain upgrades to base components (like linking the life support upgrades to the life support base), but the jetpack for example is behind two other core components and can't be moved, so it doesn't seem like you could ever link jetpack upgrades to it.

- Don't wait forever to upgrade your ship's shields or phase beams. At some point you're going to get scanned and attacked by hostile ships for carrying decent cargo, and they can mess you up pretty hard if you aren't prepared. For my part I feel like it is a lot easier to fight with the phase beam than the photon cannon. Also, upgrading the phase boost is a good investment because it helps you navigate around planets a lot better (your turn radius while boosting is a lot better).

- Don't be afraid to break into buildings and take on sentinels. It's worth breaking into facilities, and on some planets sentinels are outright hostile to begin with. They're also a good source of Titanium. Upgrading your shield and boltcaster can be a pretty good investment to make taking on sentinels a lot easier and scoring lots of Titanium (which is especially useful for repairing your shield during space combat).

- Let go of the idea of being a completionist. This game will break you. Sometimes it can be worth going after species discoveries for the units awarded for completing an entire planet, though, and this advances your journey milestone, which is a bit important for progressing into the actual meat of things later. But unless you actually want to spend the next ten years of your life scanning rocks, you just kind of need to accept that the universe is too big and the interesting moments too far apart for you to search every corner of every planet.

So, is there a way to realistically track your way to the center? From what it appears, the only way to really do this is jump on star distance st a stone and write down your path as you go?

There's a waypoint system, but seems you can only select three stars and not really sure how it works or if it's effective.

also man as soon as i started today within 5 min got a crash then it crashed again right after restarting the game... that patch must have fuck up something...

I am not to thrilled with the game, so much repetition. The magic of discovery is totally gone when every system and planet has the same template.

That said I see there are multiple quest line but no quest log, so how the hell do I know what quest to do. It seems like atlas is the main one as that's the one that always shows up on my one notification corner but what about the other one?

Also many times I reach this monolith beacon thing that says it sends its signal to the stars, the camera zooms out and it says you have found something on another star system, then it zooms back and points me to a monolith like a minute away on that planet, what?

I don't think it's an oversight. Just more stuff the couldn't have added without delaying the game further.

Sean said it sounded like a good idea. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that crops up in a future update.

I was thinking about what sort of vehicles. Maybe like a slow hauling truck you can load up with resources. And a landspeeder. Zipping across a desert or dodging between trees on a hover bike would be fantastic.

That and the Mako :p

yeah i agree, Ive kinda learned also you if you have something that is +3 you can get rid of the +1 stuff to help make your weapon more efficient. it would be nice to see the blueprints without having to dismantle. its kinda broken where i think they assume you will look at it when you acquire.

So I deleted my save and restarted last night and didn't use the pre-order ship. What a difference that made. I got the hyperdrive blueprints and I'm more or less set. The next task on my agenda after work is to get the warp cell going.

Got to play for another three hours last night and explore the two moons orbiting my starter planet.

I've been using the preorder ship, and I didn't have a problem obtaining the blueprints for the hyperdrive. I've been using the pre-order ship since minute one. What happened was that I was following the atlas instructions, and it prompted me to use my hyperdrive to jump to the next system. I did, but I didn't actually want to leave my starting system yet. Anyway, I was in my second star system, on a cold planet, and I was looking around for the resources to build the warp cell, which I had the blueprint for. I didn't have the recipe for antimatter, however. I used a vendor to purchase some antimatter, and made my warp cell, then jumped back to my starting system.

Once in my starting system again, I returned to my starter planet (I wanted to locate the last two animals in my checklist for that planet), an objective popped up directing me to a manufacturing facility. I finished locating my two animals, but found another manufacturing facility and went there. That one didn't have antimatter blueprints, so I went to the one originally marked by Atlas. That one had the antimatter blueprints and was on one of the orbiting moons. I then crafted enough warp cells to top off at 100% fuel, and took off to the second moon, where I'm currently hunting for my last two animals and expanding the slots in my exosuit inventory.

The preorder ship didn't bork my game, but I had to do a little legwork to get back on task, and now I'm all set to explore that second system once I finish my business on this moon. My next task is to procure a new ship with more storage. This trader had one with a ton of slots, but it was 1.5 mill. I only have 200k. Lol

People who are having all these crashes, try and go into Safe Mode and Rebuild Database.

I have not had a single lock up or crash yet. I have been playing 6 hours stints (man time flies with this game)... and never once did it lock up or crash. Went to dashboard to check trophies, paused to get drinks or food, take dog for walk, etc..

Hopefully the Rebuild Database helps.

Seems like a huge oversight that there are not land vehicles, walking / running is getting miserable.

He did mention they want to add them before. And there is concept art with ATV looking buggy in one of the pictures of the LE Art Book.

Didn't even think of this, but now that you mention it, I need this.
