No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

I see people talking about lack of planet variety and I'm finding it very difficult to agree. Almost every planet I've been to has been different and has had very different creatures/plants on it.

Maybe I've just been lucky so far but I'll post a few screenshots later.

The problem I'm having is that I need to explore these planets because I have to find the resources to progress.

Yes, some more varied and nice looking planets would help my experience, but it wouldn't fix the problems I have with the repetitious core gameplay loop.

That's not all there is to the gameplay loop man.

And figuring it how to progress is your problem solving exercise and yours alone. It didn't take me long to find every but I needed, and it wasn't long before I had a special warp reactor and hyperdrive and was leaping 8 systems at a time experiencing new actual gameplay mechanics/moments (which unlock as you progress)

Plus whenever I get bored with he current gameplay I CHOOSE to go do something else. Mine asteroids. Be a pirate. Advance the story. Mine for a new ship. Try to 100% scan a planet

It's really refreshing to see people play a game without that many reviews out in the wild.

Bar the usual wind up merchants its nice to see people talking about the game without that many preconceived notions.

Whether the delay of the review/patch was on purpose we never know, but i think in the long term it is the right thing for no man sky.

Personally, enjoying it so far.

Minecraft was single player as well. They can add a bunch of stuff to this game, I am sure.

Also, I feel really bad for Sean. Hopefully he doesn't take everything to heart. NMS is a very fun game.

It's just not for everyone.
I just find it interesting when people who the game was obviously not meant for take umbrage at people saying they love the game and think it's great.
Like it's somehow a big personal offense that they do not understand how anybody could love this game.

When I get bored of mining and trading or explorimg I take it to space and start helping defend freighters or taking out traders if Im feeling like an asshole. Space is also good for mining nickel and copper.

So far Im just taking the path of the Atlas and I havent even started moving towards the center. Im starting to wonder kf I'll ever make it there. Ive done like 10 or more jumps and I think I'm farther away from the center than when I started.

Ill prolly head there just out of curiosity one day when my hyperdrive is fully upgraded.

I am still on my starter ship and multitool. I am afraid to change it up because I don't know if the tutorial is over. Is it obvious?

And I'm seeing a lot of fans deflecting criticism by saying "it's not meant for you." Try to respond to critique in a way that doesn't negate it.

What sort of new gameplay mechanics?

Please tell me that along the way i will find a device to call on my ship... I hate that i have to go all the way back after exploring. For an exploration based game, they should have imlemented this.

What to do if suspension fluid is sold out? Any other sources for suspension fluid? Otherwise I am currently stuck in this system.
Travel to different vendors, space station, other starships, to see if you can get some. Same thing happened to me last night. I eventually found someone selling it.

Is Emeril (green material) worth collecting, there's loads on my starter planet.

I haven't had a use for it yet but it might be something you need down the line. Regardless, inventory management early on might force you to sell it for more immediate needs.

This game CONSUMES me. It's so strange seeing neogaf venomously tear it apart. I'm several hours in and can barely drag myself away from it, haven't felt this way about a game in years.

If anybody had the same issue as me where I swapped ships before hyperspace jumping, and couldn't create or find antimatter anywhere: random NPCs sell it sometimes. I'm back on track again and have the blueprint :)

On a random note, I wish there was a way to zoom/rotate the creature models in the discovery menu. I was trying to show off my freak gallery...

Yes, grab it and sell it. Its one of the more valuable stones. You will need lots of it down the line, but just sell it for now.

Yep. At putposts there is a waist high column with orange stripes that you can use to call your ship. Maybe at some landing pads too. It requires a bypass chip.

I see a lot of people mentioning following the path of the Atlas etc - I chose to follow the path of the Atlas from the first red orb on my starting planet, and have since got as far as finding the hyperdrive and warping once - but absolutely no mention of the Atlas since then. Have I missed something?

Loving this game, cant stop playing it. Now im on a quest to repair broken ships i find. Every time i get one it seems the next one i find has 1 more or 1 less slot than the one i have, so they keep getting better and better i guess.

Question time:
How do u replenish your "ship life" ?
I only know how to replenish the ship shield but during a battle i managed to replenish the lifes too i just dont know what i did or if was some loot from the destroyed ship or something.

Yes, grab it and sell it.

Hmmm, ok thanks. I'll grab a load then. Presumably I may have to dump it at some stage - I've not left my starting planet yet, so no idea when I'll come across a trader to sell it to.

I'm enjoying the inventory management thus far, but I do enjoy that sort of thing.

I saw those...but they were always on the post i landed. All the posts i reached didnt have them....

Remember your ship stacks are double your exosuit stacks

And I'm seeing a lot of fans deflecting criticism by saying "it's not meant for you." Try to respond to critique in a way that doesn't negate it.
It's tedious when said responses have been given dozens of times and are plainly available for all with a mere google search.

A rant does not invite well constructed responses either. But in this specific case I am actually adressing a person who got visibly vexed at someone saying "the game is great", which was that person's opinion.

So no, no game has ever been meant for everyone, but for some reason it makes people angry that NMS isn't for them? (Refering to critiques inherent to the game genra, procedural Survival/ Exploration as it is)

I find that to be an interesting phenom.

No just keep going. Eventually you have an atlas thing pop up on your galactic map.

Its interesting... I do not hate it at all.. I am still trying to figure out if I like it or not. I also have it pre ordred on steam where I plan to play even more of the game but every time I get done playing I sorta just wonder what the hell I just did. Nothing really exciting has happened ... every animal I have found looks like a 2 year old designed it in spore, I still can not figure out the star map so it does not feel as massive as it might be and I am beyond tired of not being able to pick up basic resources because my inventory is full.

But I do keep coming back to it...Not sure what it is or even if its a good thing it just is what it is. I keep hoping something new will happen but it doesnt, another planet another group of ugly bouncing animals and another warning about life support or full inventory. But I keep going back to it..

I might not be able to form a final opinion on this game for years and maybe thats the point and in the end I will say.. shit man that was fun. But I am a long ways from that now.

I'm someone that redeemed the DLC ship right at the beginning, before doing anything. After a few hours of playing, last night, I received a marker for a quest to get a hyperdrive and a recipe for warp cells. A little while later, I received another marker for an abandoned settlement that gave me the recipe for antimatter. The game did not glitch me out of finding those certain recipes. If anyone else is stuck on getting those, try scanning around in space to see if any markers pop up.

still no mega monsters found then? I'm REALLY doubting their existence now unless it's all stuff locked in a different galaxy which would seem like a really strange decision.

It auto-regens, just like your characters health, as long as you have some shield.

I had the same issue. If you go to the galactic map, there should be a tab for "waypoint" or something. The destination there said "Atlas" something or another. Give that a look.

Because there seems to be an assumption that if people criticize the game's survival and procedural elements, the person criticizing must not like those things, and therefore the game is not "for them."

I like survival games, and I am very curious about procedural generation. I have many problems with the way NMS handles these things, not least of which the fact that the procedural generation doesn't actually seem to have a logic to it (i.e there are no conditionals in the creature generation to make them fit their environment, etc)

Is the game "not for me" or am I allowed to criticize it?

Ignoring the deflection it's mostly used for I think that's a legitimate response in some cases.

I really don't like the souls games, or BB, I find the type of gameplay frustrating and tedious. However I understand what the gameplay consists of and can agree my opinion isn't because the game has implemented something poorly, it's just implementing mechanics and a style I personally don't like.

I also hate stout and porter beers, doesn't mean they are all "shit"

wtf. peeked into the other threads and they are aflame. Gaf off its meds or what.

Yeah. Its actually unpleasant, so much negativity. A few too many people getting all irate because they visited 4 planets and haven't seen a giant sand snake yet. A lot of the criticisms seem to be more vitriolic as they're presumably born of disappointment.

Maybe all the bitching about repetition will be justified, I haven't played enough to see yet. But my initial thought is that I wouldn't really mind if I just do what I did on my starting planet for the majority of the game; its the environment and the sense of discovery that will keep me going and thus far, the gameplay loop has been pretty satisfying.

You're allowed to criticise it as long as you accept that the majority of those who enjoy this game don't really care about its faults (or find them to be faults in the first place)

Everyone has different tastes. After a certain point there's not much we can do but say that the game probably isn't for you (as in if you find it boring, there's not much we can do to change your kind)

Thats exactly how I feel. Spent two whole days exploring planets. named a few of them (My favorite was a a system of 5 planets and named it Spice girls and the planets after the singers just because it is the only five units of anything i could think of...a as soon i finished naming it it hit me: The Beatles!!!! ) but i end up always feeling like there is something lacking. I just dont know exactly...

Is there any way to go back to the last system you were in? I saw a rad spaceship back there that I really want, but I didn't have the money for it at the time and now I have no idea how to get back. The Galaxy Map is pretty much inscrutable; I know I could recognise it if I happened to select it, because it'd give me the time stamp at which I discovered it, but I have no idea how I'd actually find it.
