No Mans Sky Pathfinder Update Trailer

1) Um, there are planets with no atmosphere. Just hunks of rocks in space, devoid of life. I was on a couple in Foundation. The ratio isn't what they said it would be though; dead planets are kinda rare from what I've seen. Your last sentence makes me think you didn't play the Foundation update, because there are several resources you can only get in specific biomes now.

2) I agree about this. Space activities have not gotten much love...I hope this is temporary.

Actually, I did find lifeless worlds post-foundation update, but they all still had atmosphere. Each one still had a sky.

Small distinction to make I know, but I just think the range of possible planet types this game explores is too low. It's supposed to be fantastical, but I feel like that holds it back more than liberates it.

No real change to the game mechanic, just some cosmetic stuff added, basically using all that money on fresh paint to entice us suckers back

Awesome update. I'm happy to see the continuing support for this game. I still love playing it from time to time and these sorts of changes will only make those times happen more frequently.

Planets with no life and no atmosphere were already possible.

Given the scope of the No Man's Sky universe, saying "There's no [x] in the game" is frequently incorrect.

Can't wait to check out the Pro mode. Seems like another huge update. I might start a new file in survival to mess around for awhile

Stolen from Libyans.
They found me. I don't know how, but they found me!

On topic though. Great update and PS4Pro support looks awesome. Was always envy for PC users that had crisp-sharp textures. Pitty I son't have Pro yet - gathering credits ;)

A few vehicles and base building is cosmetic, doesn't change the game mechanic, you will still get bored after you finish with your new toys
Changing the gameplay isn't cosmeric, come on. There are so much possibilities now, you have crafting, base building, freighter building, farming, trading, mining, can race land vehicles, own several different type of ships, can easy find your way back to previous discoveries etc.
Sure you can get bored of all that too but if you like crafting I'd say from experience that you'll get bored of most other games way faster. I'm all in again, trying to find a new home planet and build a new base worthy an Steam Workshop upload.

I gotta say, I'm really impressed with what they're doing here. I was hyped for this game a long time ago, which obviously died when we came to realize how much it underdelivered.

I went ahead and just bought it for $16. That's an amount that I now feel that I'll be able to get my value out of with these updates.

We need to spam Hello Games and let them know we need reasons to explore planets and galaxies. All these new features are great but for people who have already ploughed through all the previous content, it just feels like an 'excuse' to continue playing rather than a true 'motive'.

I've got to be honest and say this latest update, whilst great for new players, hasn't really enthused me much.

Anyone tried on PS4 Pro yet?

Also is it possible to play without having to see other people's names/discoveries? For me, the whole point of this game is the feeling of isolation in an alien universe. I don't want to see that the planet I'm on has been visited by 'youre_mama_69'.

Debating whether to grab this while it's on sale.

My "motive" is to survive in Permadeath mode with all my new toys. :p

Its still rather rare to find planets of other users, unless they populate the planets with all kinds of user creations from everywhere now.
I really like the game, its a great time to pick it up now with the newest update.

This could tip me over the edge for buying. Although. The theme I note with the patches so far is that they are focused on providing content for staying put. I hope there is a future focus on ones for people looking to be travellers. Especially since the main caveat of the game was to get to the centre.

Wouldnt really say that. You still need to go out exploring to find rare materials etc, but now you can go back to your planet to use it for interesting stuff.
But yeah, I guess I would also like to see more planet creation content.

Got back into the game for the first time in a while last might.

Had a pretty good time.

Fought off some space pirates, took out a couple fugitive ships for big bounties, found my first Black hole.

Found a solar system with 5 planets and one of the planets had a rich forest and grass moon with tons of hostile WoW Murloc and Raptor-looking creatures. Fed one of the docile ones and it dug up some rare ore for me.

I scouted out a couple habitable bases there too, so I think I'll be making this moon my Home World.

This game is great in short spurts. It's when you decide to play it for extended periods that it gets boring due to the lack of any real progression. But it has it's bonuses.

It really needs some sort of story driven narrative.

Commendable work by Hello Games.

If only they weren't rushed to put out the game last summer and took another year to further develop, which is clearly what they needed.

Re-downloading it now.

That looked pretty good. I think I'm jumping in on the next sale.

It's currently £13.99 (with PS+ membership) in the PSN sale. With the new update, I'd say it's worth it to jump in now.

.

Sean Touched on this, they were running out of money , if they waited one more year than the game will be supposedly cancelled due to the lack of funding.

Yeah, I've started permadeath mode but I like to explore and feel as if there isn't enough unique locations or building to discover. I want to come across a planet after hours and hours of play and think 'what the HELL is that?'

Exploring underwater caves in the rover is pretty wild. It is also super easy to farm rigogen now.

Also it turns out my 48 slot ship is a dumpy class C :/

So am I right in thinking the PS4 Pro update gives 4K rendering but no improvements for PS4 Pro 1080p?

Are there any improvements to be had from Beast mode?

Framerate is better, i think. i am not talking about boost mode but patch.

Holy fuck, what an update!

If only they had delayed the game by half a year. I played already a ton back then because I'm mostly in for the exploration but I would have had so much more stuff now.
But oh well, this is the reason I bought the digital version, to be able to jump in at any time there's a new feature or I want to get that new-planet-feeling.
Looking forward to try the HDR.

Also, I will totally abuse spotify in this game even more with the vehicles. Punching in a fun playlist while ignorantly driving through rocks on an alien planet like an asshole.

One thing though, the photomode is kinda breaking the last bit immersion you had for their solar system stuff. Like, these godmode options to change weather and place the sun etc.
I really hope one day there will be an update that turns NMS solar systems "real" for me. Varying gravity, an actual sun to fly into, planets actually rotating around a sun etc. etc.

This suddenly runs like crap on my PC. Pre-update it was locked 60fps with everything maxed (+ increased FOV via settings tweaking) and now it hovers between 20 and 30fps with the lighting completely borked + broken textures (gold spots are pitch black).

Any up-to-date workaround/tweaks?

Check the Settings , turn off the HBAO and see if it helps , they did some changes in graphics, i think they might screwed the optimization on pc.

I really, really hope that at some point they can get planet rotation in. I know it's trivial from a gameplay perspective, but it bugs me enough to put me off getting the game.

Fair play to Hello Games, their post launch support has been decent.

Decent? Considering the amount of backlash they got, I would say their post launch support for the game has been incredible, all things considered.

While I'm not personally itching to dive back in right now, these updates have confirmed what I had originally thought once they announced that the game will be getting a lot of content added to it later: This game's going to be incredible in a few years.

still annoyed how piss poor the trading aspect is. there's no reason to buy carbon and iron from everyone! shit's easy to get. let me trade rare materials to get other rare materials, especially if I'm not into 12 hours of planet-hopping to find that one piece of shit plant my crew needs, so I can build basic stuff.

photo mode's great, though.

Best thing to do is submit feedback: https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I definitely agree that it needs more directed goals and more systems interacting with each other. I really want a dynamic mission/job system, improved combat, better creature AI and diversity, complex ecosystems, true factions. I want to feel like the universe is actually alive and I'm a small part of it, and that things would be happening and changing whether I was there or not, instead of being a giant Disneyland ride where everything feels like a prop. Adding bases and vehicles doesn't make any of that better, even if they are a nice addition.

that's great but I'm scared of the water

although I guess at leat one of those vehicles has shooty guns I could use to murder all these things from the safety of a climate controlled cabin right?

Heh. Yeah I think all of them have equipment slots you can add stuff like weapons to. It's pretty cool that it actually changes the look of the vehicle.
