#4. Finished up the short campaign portion of Extreme-G (N64). Some games are as good as you remember! I had a lot of fun. The music is great too. Really gets you in the zone while you're doing 400 mph.

Racing sims are cool and all, but I want this type of racing game to come back.

You got this, man. Sometimes I have to force myself to start a game that's been sitting there because getting passed the initial few hours is the worst (acclimating yourself to controls and layouts, etc.). But once I start to feel comfortable it's always more enjoyable.
TONIGHT!

Darkwatch done. Beat on hardest difficulty, both good and evil paths. Great game. Belongs in any ps2 or xbox collection.

On to burnout 3 takedown. Never played a burnout before but I am very proficient in racing games.

Three more finished! Trying to bang some games out this month since in the coming months I probably won't be able to play as much.

5. Spyro the Dragon (Reignited) - Used reshade as I didn't love the look, but loved the game. Glad they had an original music option.
6. Mario Kart 64 - Continuing my 64 nostalgia trip. Beat every 150cc cup, shortcuts still fresh in my mind after all this time. A classic.
7. Max Payne - Focused and intense. Noir executed to perfection. A few issues on PC but a unique work of art nonetheless.

Writes a lot, says very little
I recently finished 2 plathrough of original Resident Evil Remake and I was thinking replay RE2Remake but I will do that when we get little closer to RE3Remake release. So instead I'm gonna play Yakuza 0, I only played Yakuza 3 and 4 on PS3 I enjoy them but never got the chance to play the other game so I'm gonna start with Yakuza 0.

Thats my favorite in the series! Bring a Kleenex box, you funa be in da FEELS!!!!

I think so far Phase Phase has completed the most games out of their backlog. Nicely done!
Although some are short, It's been awesome playing through some games from my childhood again with a new perspective. I love how focused older games are, little to no fluff. All about the gameplay. I'm also planning on playing a few I never got around to like Gex: Enter the Gecko, Donkey Kong 64, and Nox on pc.

I would be up for this except I'm probably buying a new PC next month and the first thing I would play is Sekiro, which I haven't bought yet, so I'd lose by default.

Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time
Sekiro isn't a new game anymore :messenger_winking_tongue:

I've completed Mini Metro 100% now. Great game. If I were to suggest an improvement, it would be nice to have some achievements where you target efficiency instead of passenger numbers. Going for numbers with the threat of a game ending overcrowded station, bakes in that any big score attempt will, unless you are very restrained, involve manually moving trains at some point or even using the very cheeky phantom line. Extreme mode stops that with permanent lines and trains but I find it a little more hardcore than I'd like and would rather have something in between. Nitpicking over. So I will be trying this in the endless mode to see how high I can get efficiency. And will try to improve my best passenger numbers on my fave maps. This one is staying installed, good for those spare lazy half hours.

I should get my eyes tested. I considered a few times sending a message to DunDunDunpachi DunDunDunpachi to create this thread but it’s been here all along! I enjoyed last year, played some good games and some great games too at much less cost than my average year of gaming. I wasn’t perfect, but did show some impressive restraint for me.

So, so far this year has started with me re-downloading Binding of Isaac and finally trying Days Gone. Days Gone being a game that I didn’t buy last year whilst trying to stay true to the spirit of this thread. I got it as a Christmas present.

Anyhoo, glad to be here again 👍

Glad to have you for another round. Keep us all appraised of the fun stuff you're playing.

Well, I'm backlog free 😳

- finished Disgaea 5 and Assassin's Creed Rogue
- Starlink and Okami are officially 'suckers4ever'

To keep track for the year:

Finished in 2020:

1.) Disgaea 5
2.) Call of Cthulhu

Hm, my current backlog:

- Disgaea 5 (almost done)
- Okami (10 hours or so in)
- Assassin's Creed Rogue (soon)
- Starlink

I could try since nothing is coming soon. Probably will lose when Hatsune Miku releases hopefully in March or so.

Finished two more today. :messenger_grinning_sweat: After these the completions will slow down as most of the other games in my backlog are much longer. What a fun start to the year this has been.

8. Star Fox 64 - One of a kind. Was really fun to go back and play this through. The music, sounds, voices of the characters all brought back great memories. I had forgotten about how the game has multiple paths based on your success or failure in certain missions. Really cool.
9. Wave Race 64 - I've always loved these arcade style racers. Beat normal, hard, expert difficulty modes and completed stunt mode. This game reminded me to get another game - Hydro Thunder! I used to play that with my brother when we were younger.

I had a look at my game completions from last year... 32 games completed, of that only two came out last year... so... I'm in! Though I'm going for the 1 new per 10 backlog at best, cause there's no way I'm skipping TLOU2, Cyberpunk calls to me, and Doom Eternal also (plus I backed Psychonauts 2 all the time ago so I assume I get it at some point this year.

I have... an uncountable amount of games in my backlog... something like 2000 Steam games, boxes of PS3/PS4/PSP/Vita games, 10 years of PS+ games, Humble monthly... etc etc etc... so I'm not going to make a list in advance.. as my options are VAST... Sometimes people will question why I play some of the games I will get to... and it's cause... I bought a LOT of cheap old PS3 games in run out sales etc.. and the plan is to play them then sell them off

Thus far this year I've already completed

1. Midnight Club Los Angeles (PS3)

My first Midnight Club game, overall I had a pretty good time with it, I mean, it's SUPER arcadey, and more often than not it was traffic that took me out rather than crashing from taking a corner badly. The "campaign" is really quite long, although I'm not really sure why they even bothered to add a story... My biggest complaint was... I finished all the missions to the point of becoming the champion, and then the final task is to pay $1 million to buy in to a garage, which then gets you access to all the cars for free... Well... I wasn't planning on this... I spent a bunch on upgrades as the game went along, so when I got to this point... I had about 100k only... It meant I had to do hours of grinding... in a racing game.... took the shine off things a bit. Still seems a bit weird that like... 12 years later, there's been no mention of any new Midnight Club game... I guess GTA/RDR just makes too much money to bother!

2. Weeping Doll (PSVR)

This is like... a 1 hour experience at most... early days VR title where it's the teleport method to move, really (REALLY) simple puzzles.... you won't get stuck.... and.... it's supposed to be a horror game apparently... but... nope... not remotely scary... I'd pass on this one

3. Eagle Flight (PSVR)

Maybe 3-4 hours to complete (to the credits, not to 100%). This is a fairly chill VR game where you pretty much are just using head movements to fly, and a few buttons on the controller to speed up/slow down, shoot, and block... It runs perfectly smoothly but again being close to a launch title.. it has very noticeable black borders that move in close as you get close to items, and no way to turn this feature off or set levels. I know it was early days and people were getting their VR legs still... but I seem to be luck in that I don't suffer any ill effects from VR aside from if the game is super low res and has text I am supposed to read... Aside from that though, was a fun time... Multiplayer is dead though so I couldn't try that

The game I'm playing right now is... Medievil (PS4)... now.. I need a judgement made on this one.. I DID buy this a few days in to the new year... HOWEVER.... I already own the PS1 release and was playing that on Vita, before deciding to upgrade to the new pretty version... So..... does this count as a backlog game cause I owned an earlier release of it... or have I already failed for the year before any of the cool new games even come out!

Congrats to anybody that made it through that wall of text btw!

Good job on your progress so far LegionX LegionX

Remakes of old games that you already own are 100% okay. Another example of a "safe" purchase would be a physical copy of a game you already own digitally, or a digital purchase of a game you own physically, or a re-purchase on a new system (i.e. I played Diablo 3 on PC years ago and then started anew on the Switch).

Good stuff! Then I should be pure up until that TLOU2 release at least! 1 in 10 is the goal.

Currently as I said, playing Medievil on PS4, but have also started Baja - Edge of Control HD on PC (upgraded from PS3 copy last year), and Killzone Liberation on PSP

Dang, I hope you enjoy KZ Liberation. One of the best games in the franchise, IMO. I wish they'd do another one (would be the perfect title to hand over to Housemarque).

Looks like I will be going for the Evangelical Kanye tier since I can't skip Cyberpunk or TLOU 2. I have a billion games in my backlog (give or take) so I should be able to knock 10 off of it through the year. Currently working on Fist of the North Star, Death Stranding, Jedi Fallen Order among others.

I'm going to make a list to help myself prioritize which games I would like to knock out this year. Once I have done that I'll post it here.

Still getting no gaming time. Tbh my schedule is a bit buggered between trying to lose 2 stone, continue my education with Crime and Punishment, and get back to making games again. What time I have is in little bitesize chunks and Horizon Chase Turbo has been scratching that itch nicely. No doubt I'll get back to the good stuff in due course but priorities are getting in the way.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Haven't got too much gaming in the past two weeks - outside of playing some Final Fantasy XIV with my son. Technically, last year I bought Shadowbringers and still haven't even finished the Heavensward stuff so we've got a ways to go on this. I've also been (slowly) working through Bloons TD6 - which I played on my phone but am now playing again on Steam - and Star Ocean: First Departure R on the Switch. Along with playing Diablo III again with the wife. Maybe I've been gaming more than I realized haha.

Outside of that I've been working super weird and long hours. And I'm trying to put together RetroGOG (and coordinating with contacts there, etc) trying to get achievements put in. Hopefully will have some traction there soon.

I think I'm gonna be at Environmental Station Alpha for quite some time. I've beat the eighth boss and it's getting pretty tough. Think I'm only about 40% of the way through. If the difficulty keeps on then the last boss will be after a long section of monster filled passages and grapnel climbs over spikes and lasers, and have 6 health bars and god knows what else. Plus it's thrown an alien language at me. Hopefully there's a translate tool, but it's probably behind a hidden breakable wall, which is the one thing I find a bit annoying in this. Having to blast every surface hoping to find stuff. Even so, I am liking it a lot. Just didn't expect it to be as big a challenge.

Alright, I created folders on each platform (xbone and ps4) that include all the games I would like to knock out this year. To go along with my theme for this year I've named them both 2020 Vision. I have an external HD and Game Pass on the Xbox which is why the group is so much larger than ps4. If somehow I manage to clear all these with time left I have other games I can install next.

I added 1 rule that I am going to follow to help me stay focused. Mainly that I can't uninstall a game in either folder until I have beaten a game that I can uninstall to replace it. This will help me from jumping around a bunch between games.

Instead of listing them I am gong to be lazy. Here are a couple of screen grabs that show the groups for each platform.

Well, I'm not gonna go all of 2020 with no new games, but since fucking everything is getting delayed I think January through early April would be a good time to go through the backlog. Then take a small break from the backlog to play FFVII Remake and TLOU2 in April/May. Then back to the backlog until September.

So I'm slowly progressing through some longer games currently, but just felt like blasting through something quickly so checked howlongtobeat.com against my Steam list and picked the first game in my list that was really short.. thus...

4. Adventure Boy Cheapskate DX (PC)

Took 85 minutes to complete, 112 total to complete it originally and the NG+

It's a very basic flash game that apparently a couple of high school students made... It's kinda a point and click adventure game, but really simple... (no mouse control, keyboard only) pretty much people give you items, and you then just have to work out who needs that item.. to get another item.. etc... It's a 29meg Flash game so set your expectations low... but... for an hour or so it kept me entertained I guess!

I pledge to complete my backlog games in 2020, but i won't lie to you guts. Resident Evil 3 is coming out and i won't stand the temptation 😥

However other than that game i won't get any new ones, just had a kid and I have a lot of other things to buy for him instead of games.

So i need to finish:

Nier: Automata
Witcher 3
Spider-Man
RDR 2
Crash
+ Most of the PSN freebies

This is very similar to where im at as well. While no year would ever be a backlog only year especially since I wouldn't have enough games to last the year but due to the numerous delays, im starting to wrap up my 10 game backlog. As of now, I only have 5 games with a release date for the first 8 months of the year.

I have Darksiders Genesis, REmake3, Trials of Mana Remake, Wasteland 3 and TLOUP2 with Trials of Mana Remake being 50/50 as I'll wait for reviews, impressions and gameplay walkthroughs once the title is released. The other 4 are guarantees with Wasteland 3 being after TLOUP2 despite it releasing before TLOUP2.

In the mean time, I finally wrapped up Remnant: From the Ashes the other day. I have a few chapters left in Yakuza Zero but will wrap that up on Tuesday. Afterwards, I have 8 games left in my backlog -

Assassin's Creed III, Batman Arkham Asylum, Batman Arkham City, Control, Darksiders 2, God of War III, Nier Automata and Ratchet & Clank Remake.

So I will complete at least 2 of the 8 before Darksiders Genesis releases and after that, it's back to the backlog until REmake3. All the delays actually helped me. First, I don't have to spend as much money now as I would have. Second, I can eliminate my backlogs for last gen and current gen before next gen consoles get released. And third, im expecting a lot of the delayed games to be cross-gen (with all of Ubisoft's games already confirmed to be cross-gen) so I'll just wait for them on next gen consoles since the wait would be minimal.

So basically, I would say at least half the year will be me playing backlogged titles with the other half of the year playing new titles which in turn eliminates any future backlog.

My challenge :
No 2020 games (or the strict minimum). I can buy older games as my "physical backlog" is quite limited ( 2 physical games and 1 from PS+ I really wanted to play).

"Physical backlog" :
  • Xenoblade Chronicles
  • Final Fantasy XII
  • The Last of Us (PS+) Done !
  • The surge (PS+, still don't know if I want to play it or not)

Games completed :
  1. Dragon Age Origins (started early 2019, finished 6th January 20, around 80h)
  2. The Last of us + Left Behind (Started 1st January, finished 19th January 20, 18h30 + 2h20, Survivor Difficulty)
Finally I got to play this "masterpiece" everyone is speaking about. I was almost completely blind on it (I just knew about the setting : infected people, post apocalypse). I was expecting a strong narrative game with OK gameplay. And it's what I got. I loved the atmosphere, story, characters. The formula "corridors, stealth section, corridors, stealth section..." got me quite scared at the beginning but hopefully there are some really "cool" moments in between to change a bit.
I played in Survivor so it means no "Listen mode" (I discovered that because I checked somehting on Youtube) and I am quite happy I did. Relying on your own sight and hearing make the stealth more intense. However the stealth sections with the infected were a nightmare as they were extremely sensitive to sound and most of these encounters ended up in shooting session... But toward the end I started to like them and got much better at it.
Now the action parts... it felt terrible. Movement are clunky and I felt really handicapped when several infected were suddenly popping up at me. I guess it's a developer's choice to reinforce the survival and realism feeling but it was a pain for me... Also the checkpoints mid battle are sometimes questionable (It's not a great idea to autosave mid battle when the player has loose all its HP on one single mistake...)
However I really like small details like how you search in your backpack when checking your inventory or switching weapons. Add a bit of strategy and planning.

The story really grew on me and the last part (Heavy endgame spoiler !!when Joel gets out of control when learning that Ellie has to die) was strongly emotional for me. The fact that I have a young daughter might have help on it. Also I like the ending and I was really sad/conflicted.

"Left behind" is forgettable...

In conclusion, all along my playthrough I was conflicted to decide if this game is really great or that it's not really a "video game". There is so many scripted events (this disturbed me a lot) and everything can feel like a "interactive movie". So I'll put it like this : It's an awesome cinematic experience but just a good video game. However, I easily see myself doing another playthrough in the future and this is something didn't happen to me in a long time. I want to play Part 2 but it could easily wait 2021 :)

Currently playing :
  • Xenoblade Chronicles (Not yet started actually EDIT : Started 25th January 2020)
I am really in mood for JRPG now and a friend of mine lent me his Wii with Xenoblade this summer. I have heard only good things about this game so now it's time play it !

I sat down Saturday morning and played some SNES stuff.

Finished Run Saber. It's a really well made, underappreciated Strider clone. My only gripe would be that it's too short (5 levels) and too easy. It's great if you just want to breeze through something.

Also finished Donkey Kong Country for the first time. I played through DKC2 and DKC3 for the first time last year and those games really changed my view on DKC. It's a great game, but feels kind of bland and easy in comparison.

I could do with this. Currently playing through Arkham City so I’ve started tackling the backlog but the rest consists of:

Kingdom Hearts: The Story so Far
Bloodborne
God of War
Spyro trilogy
AC Origins
Astrobot
Breath of the Wild
Spider-man
AC Odyssey

I’ve put them in order of how I plan on tackling them. The KH collection will probably be split up so as not to get burn out, however.

Here's a bit of an odd request! I mentioned earlier I have an insane backlog.. to the point I often don't know where to even begin... I'm currently slowing progressing in a few games, but want to start one more up (it seems to be the way I get through things, it's uncommon for me to just start a single game and dedicate 100% of my gaming time to it)

So, if somebody wants to give me a letter and then a number, I'll try to play that game from my Steam library... so basically.... From A-Z, and then a number after it... as an example... A1 would be Absconding Zatwor..... S23 would be Salammbo : Battle for Carthage (So don't pick either of those)

I'll do my best to play whatever it is, unless it hits on... for example.. a multiplayer only game, that has already died and has empty servers... If I get something that doesn't exist then I'll let you know! (like... I have 10 Z games... so a Z11 would be invalid)

All things being well, I'll take the first reply, if anybody will humor me with my dumb ideas! There's 1621 possibilities in my list of unplayed games, and the only new ones from this year are from the latest Humble Monthly..

thanks!

Well I’ve almost finished AC Origins. I’m on the final mission now. I might leave it installed so I can do the DLC later on. I’m a good ways into Odyssey as well so I can probably finish that one next week,

Good luck on that staggering backlog. We're rooting for ya.

Bad Dream : Coma
Welcome in Bad Dream: Coma. A point&click game where unique minimalistic art style creates an unforgettable and atmospheric experience. Travel through the surreal and disturbing dreamland where everything depends on your actions. You can't die but you can suffer greatly...

So I've just read about it and apparently this is game 7 in a series of games with the Bad Dream title.. the first 6 are not on Steam cause they were free downloads... they are about 20mins each... so... do I just do the Steam one and move on.. or play the 7 in order.... what do you think!

If it's a narrative driven game, I would say catch up on the narrative before diving into the 7th.
