Split 900 million? May as well not even play at that point.

With a 900 million dollar jackpot the expected return on a 2 dollar ticket is about a dollar. With a 450 million dollar jackpot it's minus 50 cents.

My math might be wrong, so do please correct me if it is. (I'm just doing (odds of winning * jackpot) - cost of ticket)

Don't know how widespread they are outside Colorado, but our Lottery has vending machine set up in some grocery stores. In addition to regular lottery tickets, you can buy Poweball tickets.

Fat lines of people trying to buy powerball tickets at the gas station.

I'll admit it was strange to see the lines at the store, especially since there's a million places to buy a ticket with no line within 1min. I wonder if where they buy it matters to people.

No way that's true because they're not going to operate an unprofitable lottery.

Here in New Jersey some of the Wawa convenience stores (some food only, some gas stations + food) have those little vending machine kiosk type things as well.

Well, they do then also collect taxes on those winnings. And I'd imagine this situation where the expected pre-tax return is actually positive is very rare and can only happen with absolutely massive jackpots.

?

The reason the amount goes up is because nobody won the last few jackpots. They are still taking their cut of each ticket purchased. If there is technically a positive EV it is because of all the dead money from the past unwon jackpots.

I used this website to choose the numbers for me. Humans would naturally avoid numbers close to each other, which is a fools mistake.

If a GAF member wins he/she should have an awesome game/hardware giveaway contest.

I like my job enough to give them notice. But it would he a hard few weeks of work...

I also like my job enough to give them two weeks notice. They would probably think I'm crazy to still be coming in though. And honestly I don't even know if I would tell them the truth.

I can count on one hand the number of people I would tell the truth to. None of them are people I work with.

If I win I'm taking the week off to get this shit sorted out and move out asap. I have no intention of being a dead person!

I had a heated discussion with a coworker Friday telling him that our state (Connecticut) doesn't allow anonymous claims, he kept saying they're allowed here. After a few minutes I just stopped talking and left.

If I won I would still work at my job. I would just work from my new mansion and only go into the office like twice a week. And work part time.

It's so weird seeing some 9f the 'if I win' posts.

If I win, my immediate family gets their debt paid off, my sister and mom get the best medical care I can buy, and my kids and I will get a nice but not lavish house in a place not too cold, that has good schools. The rest I will let sit, and randomly gift poor families with great Christmases

That's the beauty of this, we can do whatever we want with the money. There's no "right" way of spending it.

I mean after all the usual stuff (debt cleared for most of my immediate family and such), first thing is I'd get a (decent) house and build a gym in it. I'd always wanted a home gym but a lack of funds/space have always stopped me. Maybe I'm a weirdo for that being my first major purchase haha

Oh and front row tickets to all of this years biggest Boxing matches.

if I win im using a small portion of the money to buy an apartment with this view
