Nokia Lumia |OT| Worth the Weight

I have the opportunity to have my work buy me a 920, or I can wait a few months to see what comes around the corner. I need some wisdom from GAF here.. please help.

1. Kind of torn between the 920 and 8X -

I like Nokia build quality but personally think the HTC looks better, and matte tapered back.
I love the PureView Camera
I love Nokia Apps (Nav etc..)
I like the 4.5 display over 4.3
I currently own a HTC Rezound and like HTC hardware though too

= Leaning 920, wish it wasn't gloss.

2. My Rezound weighs 170g, and the 920 is 188g. YIKES!

I hate the weight of my Rezound as it is when I pickup my friends One X :/

3. Thickness, the 920 is 13.+ mm thick! Its basically a brick :/

So feature wise I like what I see with the 920 but where I'm scare to leap is in the clunky, heavy and thick design of this phone. I can't help but feel this is 1.0 and Nokias successor may come out in 6-8 months and be 8mm thick (like the One X) and weigh downwards to 130-140g.. which is desirable for me.

Bottom line, I'm afraid a much lighter and thinner version is around the corner and I will regret it. I could use some push from GAF or some convincing otherwise I suppose :/

Am I nuts?

The 920 is 10.7 mm thick.

It's matte in black, cyan, and grey and gloss in red, yellow, and white.

Thanks! I confused the thickness with my Rezound, which is 13.++ mm, thanks for reminding me the 920 is 10.7! Also, did not know about matte finish in the other colors.

This changes my viewpoints greatly, much appreciated.

I ordered around 11:15pm CST. Yeah I think it's premier. What sucks was that I completely forgot to add the charging plate. I called an AT&T order specialist or something and was told they'll send the plate separately, but I 6 hours later and I haven't received confirmation of it.

I'm pissed at myself cause I was half asleep when I was ordering it last night.

I had the same issue and the specialist said that contact them again once I got the phone.

I just got off the phone with customer service and the rep (Charles) told me that that the charger would be shipping separately and that he couldn't see the actual order until it ships. However, he confirmed that the preorder had an "alert" on it that showed that I had qualified for the free charging plate and it would be sent separately. I ordered through the regular site at 9 am CST and did not have the charger as an option to put in my cart.

Mine hasn't shipped yet...and I ordered early this morning. Another fine example of the awful customer experience that AT&T unleashes upon its customer base.

If this was Newegg or Amazon it would have shipped 5 hours ago. So much for getting it before the weekend.

That's a relief. I was probably told the same thing, but I had a hard time understanding the rep's accent.

So I guess we can use the date on our receipt to prove that we should have our free charging plate. Good thing it seems they have enough units for at least the first day of preorders.

The specialist said a similar thing to me.
Basically, I am eligible for the free charging plate and contact them later.

OK, apparently when I check the order number on the Premier site, it says it's still processing. When I go to att.com and log-in, it says it already shipped with a tracking number. I never got an e-mail that it shipped, only the order confirmation.

I don't think we need to be that negative yet. if it doesn't ship by noon tomorrow I'd be worried. I did pay for overnight shipping, though, so I guess other people might not be in that boat. Regardless, on my order confirm page it said it would ship on 11/08 and arrive on 11/09 and others have echoed that. Nobody, save one person, has had their order ship. We have a semi-confirm of the charging plates. As of right now, I don't think there is much to do besides wait for our ship date.

If they could somehow make the exact same phone, but a smaller 3.5 inch screen (and perhaps a little thinner), this phone would be crafted by god himself for me.

As it is now, the phone is gorgeous but just too big for me (as the vast majority of smart phones are, and becoming). :'(

Mine hasn't either(Premier). I'm hearing horror stories about preordering from then so I'm calling then as I'm typing this email. It doesn't look like its shipped yet.

Did you find out anything? Mine still says Processing. I'm terrible, I check it like every 30 minutes haha.

Yours does? I only see "Your Nokia Lumia 920 has been reserved and is expected to arrive on or around 11/09/12". There is no ship date anywhere.

Why is the 920 an AT&T exclusive? I don't understand this business practice at all.

Nokia doesn't have the clout that say an Apple does who can dictate what they want to the carriers. I'm sure Nokia got some nice perks and I'm guessing this must be a six month exclusivity deal with AT&T,

I went to att.com/orderstatus put my info in and it still says expected ship date is today. No tracking.
 
still no order status at all.. I see a couple of $1 charges from ATT on my amex card.. but nothing else. (pending, that is)

So don't freak out too much.

Actually, you can also check the order status in ATT website. att.com/orderstatus
ATT site shows more details

For my order, the premier site shows "processing", but in ATT site "pending shipment".

This is true. But I don't like what I see. My micro-SIM is "Pending Shipment" but my phone is still just "Processing." I would hope they don't ship them separately.

mine says "Attention"

Doing some research it may be because I specified a different shipping address (my office) than my billing address..

At this point I may just call and see if I can cancel and just buy one at the store in the morning.

They have no record of the order through their automated system and can't transfer me to a person.. bleh.. frustrating.

I just checked with an ATT Premier site special and they can't give me the free wireless charging pad.
The only way I can get the pad is buying a new one. So I had to cancel my order and preorder a new one.
So stupid :(

The home screen looks gorgeous, but I found the apps/options menu pretty ugly using high contrast. Tiny icons make the entire background white and hard to look at.

Edit: High contrast also means that there is no way to customise the lock screen, it just turns into a giant white rectangle :(

Ordered a Cyan ... and got the (free) black charger along with a cyan (not free) charger.

w00t can't wait!




Unfortunately it's still listed as pending though :\
