North Korea: 3.4-magnitude earthquake caused by suspected explosion, China says

China's earthquake administration says a magnitude-3.4 earthquake has been detected in North Korea that was a "suspected explosion".

The administration said in a statement on its website that the quake, which occurred around 8.30 am, was recorded a depth of zero kilometres.

Previous quakes from North Korea have indicated nuclear tests by the reclusive state, the most recent earlier this month. The quake was centred near North Korea's nuclear test site.

Story is developing.

Seems like Trump's approach on "diplomacy" is going so well with Iran and North Korea.

Seems like it's one of the lower yield bombs they tested quite often before.

Probably not even a real test but just to troll Trump

That's really low yield. It could be a fizzle, large conventional weapon, or even a collapse of a cavity caused by a previous nuke.

This is the lowest magnitude caused by one of their nukes yet.

AP: South Korea says natural North Korea earthquake detected
South Korea's weather agency says a magnitude 3.0 earthquake was detected in North Korea around where the country recently conducted a nuclear test, but it assessed the quake as natural.

An official from Seoul's Korea Meteorological Administration said Saturday's quake was detected in an area around Kilju, in northeastern North Korea. She says it was clear that the quake wasn't caused by an artificial explosion. She spoke on condition of anonymity, citing office rules.

The site of the quake is near where North Korea on Sept. 3 conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear test in what it said was the detonation of a thermonuclear weapon.

Maybe a reduction in yield to make it small enough to work as a warhead?

It is rather odd at least.

Right, because the North Koreans only managed to gain nuclear capability during the past year right?

This is just as much a result of the "strategic patience" policy.

Kim will not stop. He is a monster.

From April 2017:
According to Thae, Kim is obsessed with obtaining nukes because he saw what happened to Iraq's Saddam Hussein and Libya's Moammar Gadhafi, both of whom abandoned their countries' weapons of mass destruction programs and then were overthrown by Western-backed forces.

Many analysts agree that Kim sees a nuclear weapon — and the retaliatory threat it poses — as an insurance policy against a similar strategy being pursued against him.

"That's why Kim Jong Un strongly believes that only a nuclear weapon can guarantee his rule," Thae said.

Doesn't seem to be of intensity that would indicate another nuclear test.

Might have been testing something else, how shit just went haywire and exploded.

Now even Mother Earth is getting tired of Kim Kong Un's nonsense. I thoroughly expect Trump to tweet about it anyway

The fact that it occurred within seconds of being exactly on the hour indicates something artificial unless that is a coincidence. This is an unusual one.
