Any reports of deaths from the attack?
Just two confirmed civilian injuries so far.

I get the feeling that North Korea is relying too heavily on China's backing when they pull shit like this.

In China's view, is this little asshole of a country really worth jeopardizing their diplomatic and trade relationships?
I don't know, although lately it seems like China has been pretty tired of North Korea's bullshit. But if bullets start flying will they flex their "emerging superpower" muscles? We'll see.

Hopefully this skirmish doesn't escalate any further and the North realizes that it would be pretty dumb to do so.

What provoked this? :/

Short term: succession issues, securing power for Kim Jong Il's son.

Medium term: the naive foreign policy of South Koreans who have a hippie "we're all Koreans" attitude and Americans like Clinton and Carter who thought North Korea could be trusted to hold up their end of nuclear agreements.

Long term: Truman not letting Gen. Douglas MacArthur do his thing.

Yikes... hope this isn't an immediate precursor to further hostilities. Small incidents like this can definitely set off something much larger =(

This is NOT the news we need before Thanksgiving....fucking hell.

Imagine Obama meeting with the troops. "Hey guys! Happy Thanksgiving! Oh, btw you're shipping out to North Korea."

Yeonpyeong Island still under attack by Pyongyang, Seoul officials say

More than 1000+ live on Yeonpyeong

Homes have collapsed

i wonder if kim is finally getting ready for the dirt nap but wants to go out with a bang.

NK isn't really a match for the US troops. Not that that means it wouldn't be bad news. But, you know.

As far as we know only about 4-6 people were injured. Guess it remains to be seen if anything will actually happen

They have over a million troops who are willing to jump off a cliff at Kim's gesture. That cant be taken lightly.

What the fuck is NK thinking?

They barely have any real entrenched positions that can hit main parts of SK.

SK knows a lot of artillery positions and should go bomb the shit out of them right now.

What does this accomplish? Someone get a military thread hook up going.

Dude....one million? Ha. Try nearly the entire country. If they're capable of miltary service they will serve. Period. They won't go down like Saddam's troops.

Problem is that humanitarian crisis already exists. The world just turns a blind eye. Going in there and changing things would probably do the people a favor

His son or other lieutenants would respond by invading South Korea and launching rockets at Japan

Honestly I hate this way of thinking. I understand it 100% but it's still bullshit.

This shit isn't going to solve itself! And they aren't just going to die off. Might as well get it over with before they can actually buy rockets that CAN HIT SHIT.

And I fucking live in Japan.

Just seems so fast, I just read this news 10 minutes ago, and now I'm finding out 3 minutes ago that SK has returned fire.

This is big news.

NK usually gets away with stuff like this

they are betting on that again i believe

For all we know it could have been some shit like NK military identifying "aggression" or something, not strictly full out call for war from big hair dude

Huh? NK can shell Seoul to smithereens, and most of their artillery remains hidden from foreign intelligence.

If the US got involved in another Korean war the MOAB and F-35s and F-22s would be used and it could be over pretty fast........
