Extreme Rules may have been the show of the year. I could make arguments for all three of those main events being the best and all for totally different reasons. I'll also throw a shout out to Future Shock/Young Bucks/Super Smash Bros. Ladder Match at Threemendous III and Steen/Elgin at Glory By Honor, also Steen/Generico at Showdown in the Sun.

I think wrestlers of the year would have to go to:
1. Daniel Bryan - Continues to spin yarn into gold with whatever WWE gives him, managed to get himself over in the WWE well beyond what anyone could have eve expected. Continues to be the best performer in wrestling.

Honourable mentions to:
2. Michael Elgin - Really grew into being a top tier pro wrestler this year, still nowhere near my favourite but definitely deserves a "Most Improved" award
3. El Generico - Probably the top face in professional wrestling anywhere, but seemingly hasn't been getting top billing still.
4. Heath Slater - I honestly think he's about on par with Dolph Ziggler in terms of wrestling ability at this point and probably the best midcard-only guy they have at the moment.
5. Christopher Daniels/Austin Aries - Tied position for being the only reasons to watch TNA all year.

Punk is definitely the best wrestler of the year. He's only had four star ppv matches, except for the one with Ryback, but that is not on him. If he wins at SS and gets a good hardcore match out of Foley at TLC, he's set.

Wrestlers of the year for me would have to be;

1. Hiroshi Tanahashi - even though I'm probably a bigger fan of Okada, Tanahashi has undoubtedly been the MVP of wrestling for 2012. Every one of his PPV main events have been amazing, and each told a great story. Last year, a lot of his matches felt formulaic and his title run had no end in sight, but this year he's spent time away from the belt and sought to mix up his performances a whole lot more, and it's certainly paid off for him.

2. CM Punk - despite some questionable booking, Punk has constantly performed to a great level with the hand that has been dealt to him throughout 2012. Even when the over-arching storylines have been lacking, he's done incredibly well to make each and every match feel important.

3. El Generico - undoubtedly the MVP of independent wrestling, Generico has spent 2012 travelling the world over and putting on awesome match after awesome match. His charisma, his ability to evoke sympy and his sheer wrestling skill make every Generico match a highlight of the card.

4. Kazuchika Okada - the breakout star of 2012, Okada has shot to the upper echelons of New Japan's roster with a series of fantastic PPV matches, starting off with his title win over Tanahashi earlier this year. Although Okada has been very protected by the booking and by Jado being his promo man, Okada's confidence in the ring and in his character really make him stand out as a star equal of Tanahashi's, even if he isn't the complete package yet.

5. Kevin Steen - be in in ROH or PWG, Kevin Steen has had a hell of a year, putting his body on the line to entertain and excite the fans of both promotions. Much like Generico, it seems Steen is becoming a guy who has a great match with everybody, and he has certainly been instrumental in PWG's awesome 2012 so far.

Honourable mentions; Daniel Bryan, Adam Cole, Michael Elgin, Minoru Suzuki, Ricochet.

Actually yeah, I think I'll put Punk on my list as well. (He's been my WOTY basically since I learned what a CM Punk was). He's really doing the best with what he is given and he seems to be in the best shape of his career, he's certainly stronger than he ever has been. His only real transgressions to me were back during the Laurinaitis feud.
