[NPD] Nintendo Switch 2 set a new all-time launch week unit sales record for video game hardware in the US, with over 1.1 million units sold

Much to my surprise it appears that even mynintendo units will be included in the monthly report. But i'm pessimistic that we will get any kind of exact sales numbers again...

Impressive number. Nintendo really prepared with supplies. It looks Nintendo and Sony are the two driving force and remaining competitors that making the gaming industry still alive.

They did a really good job with having a lot of supply. I decided to take a look and I could order one today if I wanted to. I'd like a switch 2 but the prices for the games are just too overpriced. No videogame is worth over $100 imo.

They need to lean into how apple has build a brand for long term success. Should keep this going.

Also, announce and release games. Switch 2 launch lineup is far too barren. Announce Metroid Prime 4 release date.

mario kart world worth 200$ open worlds ssx3 wave race game over annnnnnnnd price cheep if you get bundle

Yes but every other game is over $100. It's so strange to me that even old switch games like Zelda are also this much.
You can buy a used switch 1 copy of any of the old games

Then with zelda get a free upgrade with nso or pay $10

FWIW I grabbed TOTK new for $40 on Slickdeals and this was years ago

So thats 1.1 million without counting Sunday or MyNintendo Store and only for the US,
For North America its definetly over 1.5 million for the first week(Sunday included) in such a case, Canada is usually 10% of North America sales and Mexico is probably trending up
I'm guessing that Nintendo's 3.5 million sell-through is actually conservative and the figure is closer to 4 million but they probably only had the numbers for key markets and an idea about how pre-orders in smaller markets are trending

Anyways we gotta wait until the next financial results to get more insight into launch figures, sell-through and quarterly shipments. Looking at launch week 7 million is shipped with around 6 million sell-through is probably where things will end up for the Quarter

Having Mario Kart World as your launch title is equivalent to launch with exclusive mainline GTA game for your console. A record breaking machine and game.

That's nowhere near as many as The Switch 1 has sold.
Obviously it isn't, yet some people seem to think this success proves something. Something like 2% of Switch owners got a Switch 2 at launch. Whoopdey doo. The talk of records are silly, they sold more than Sony because they shipped more. Check back again over the holidays if you want to make comparisons.

Huh? The people who bought one would have bought it with any game. There are always fans who want the next console day 1.

Please don't take me seriously. I am a clown.

I have no idea why I read that number as 96,000 at first.

Anyway, huge numbers for Switch 2. I think US might've narrowly edged out Japan for most units sold, which is very impressive since only Japan got a "cheap" SKU of the thing. Western 3P seem a bit slow to hop on the train, but that just gives CDPR more room to build cache with Nintendo players, which is seriously paying off for them.
