On the PS4 side, I wonder what effect the Batman bundles are having. I mean, if I'm buying a PS4 right now, that's what I'm getting. Has to be pushing some sales into June, right?

If every Generation was 2 or 3 years long, then I would 100% agree. When they are 7-10, anything can happen. Its not like MS are doing terribly, so there is certainly room for them to improve.

They're doing terribly everywhere except the US. So, I guess you're right, LOTS of room to improve.

As for Xbone winning, can anybody tell me what exactly released that helped it? Was there one silver bullet or is it entirely based on Sony's price showing momentum?

Europe usually receives more bundles than America, don't know the reason.

It could be anything... but IMO US has small amount of notable and big retailers, while EU has countless of them, customers demands more, and console holders have to try harder to motivate better sales.

No, it doesn't. For most people the Wii U has a terrible value proposition with old hardware, an oversized gimmick controller and basically no third party support at all. If you're not a big Nintendo fan it offers very, very little for 300 USD. Xbox One needs more exklusives, sure, but it does offer a much better variety than Wii U.

There is a taPermonkey plugin that allows a customized hightlight list of quality posters, I highly recommend it. I can give you my list if you want, it makes reading large threads a 30 min breeze instead of a multihour headache.

I wish the site's code allowed for a custom list instead of having to use tapermonkey tho. Is there a suggestion box?

Amazon monthly shows PS4 barely ahead of multiple XB1 SKUs.
Gap was small.
Xbox had multiple trade-in deals in April.
Batman bundle effect.

It was a surprise to some, but it's far from a big surprise.

Nah not going to happen. Wii U isn't doing great sales but that the current price it''s bringing in money for Nintendo. They are all about profit since they have no other divisions to fall back on.

Competition is probably a good thing right now. The PS4 is not like the PS2 where it has massive casual appeal for its DVD player and can go on to sell 150 million. It doesn't have that value proposition.

Nah, we have 2 Ps4, 2 x 360 and 2 x ps3 and a Wii. Really only play Ps4 nowadays.

For my sons birthday last week I looked into another console.

WiiU is good if you like platformers and a kart racer, not really for us and expensive for something that's not much up on a 360, and poor value as we mainly buy 2 consoles for 'local' play online games. Only interest was Mk8 really and not a must have for us, tablet off putting.

Xb1 is same price as Ps4, multiplat games we would buy on Ps4 anyway, and outside of sunset looking fun not much compelling for now. Already got Halo games on 360. My sons UK friends are split between Ps4 and Xb1, none have WiiU (its really niche in UK imo)

If the $ 125 USA trade in deal was in UK would of bought a one and probably got DR3 and Sunset, maybe Ryse.

People buy consoles for a GROUP of games they want to play on it and to party up with friends. If the group of games is not there, your friends are not playing.....the value is not there.

Xbox one is already close to 299. If Sony drops the price to 299, Microsoft needs to drop the price to 249 at least to be competitive IMO.

If MS beats Sony by 10,000 units a month from now onwards it would take them 5 years just to get back to level pegging in the US.

Sony isn't going to be sweating on one or two months of a fairly lowly 10,000 unit loss at all. That said, I imagine later on in the year Sony will have a price cut to ignite fresh interest and crush MS hopes of gaining momentum against them.

That's all assuming that normal service is not resumed next month with the PS4 back to winning by a handsome margin. Then Sony would probably leave the deals and bundles until the run up to Christmas.

Even if Xbox One had a year head start, it would still be in 2nd. Consumers decided the winner when the Xbox One was revealed. Too big of a hole to dig out of.

There is some validity to this as in the U.S. Sony never recovered from $599 announcement and ended some 15 million units behind at the end.

I like doing it because I love sales and marketing and seeing how it effects the industry.

You do realize that Xbox One gained over 500K units on PS4 over the 2 holiday months last year. It won't take that long if the same thing happens this holiday. Not saying it will but you definitely have to keep the holiday months in mind when talking about sales.

Depends on how big the price drop is, but I bet that XB1 would win in that scenario simply because a Slim design would sell to both new customers and many day 1 owners too while a price drop would only sell to new customers. And Halo is Halo, and Tomb Raider is Tomb Raider, and Forza is Forza - new games in three very popular game series.

I have a PSTV arriving today from the $40 sale on Wednesday. So I won't be getting a second PS4 anytime soon since I can use the PSTV to play my PS4 at a second TV.

If I remember correctly the MS store had a Free games,controller, and a free year of live. All for $250 if you traded in a 360/PS3. If that's correct that's a insane deal. That with the Game stop trade-in deal 187k would be very low imo.

The point I'm making is Sony aren't going to sweat losing 10k sales in one month. Probably not even several months. It hardly dents their lead.
I wasn't talking about the Christmas period sales as we don't know what bundles will be available or if Sony will instigate a price cut.

If Sony cut the price and do a bundle with Battlefront, TLOU and Bloodborne (for example) I would imagine there's every chance they would be reasonably confident this Christmas. It's too difficult to predict Christmas sales this far out.

I wasn't really surprised the Xb1 outsold the Ps4 for this month. I think it will go back and fourth in the US for this generation. People saying they PS4 needs a price cut that maybe but its not like you can't get it for 350 with a game or 400 with a couple games now. Its only a 50 dollar difference from what I can tell
