the 360 version came out in April. I would be amazed if it had any effect on people's purchasing decision considering they barely acknowledged it and didn't even show a single screenshot until release.

It wasn't marketed in your face but people still knew it was coming to 360.

What is everyone playing on these PS4's? I'm looking hard for a reason to jump into next gen and I haven't seen one yet.

As I said before I enjoy the multiplat titles. PS4 is the home where they look best.
Because I went all digital I'm going between these games constantly:
BF4
Dead Nation
Infamous
Trials
AC4
SteamWorld Dig
Tom Raider

Also just made plans with the wife tonight to watch Game of Thrones BluRay and then enjoy some drinks and watch people in Playroom for a couple of hours. Been a Fri night tradition lately.

Colin is one of the few at IGN that calls it like he sees it. If you listen to Podcast Beyond he is far from a fanboy looking for a job at Sony. He criticizes them more than anyone.

I feel like everyone from podcast beyond is like that though. When i tuned in once i was confused if it was actually a playstation podcast based on the amount of time they spent shitting on sony lol

I expect TF sales to be heavily front-loaded, as it didn't appear to move that many systems and it sold primarily to existing Xbowners... guess we'll have to wait and see if it has any legs.

Sweden or Switzerland I think is an example of one

yup. we speak German, Italian and French. It launched in Germany, Austria, Italy and France yet we still don't have a date.

So the localisation excuse must be bullshit. At this point they don't even have to bother officially launching the console. German XB1 are readily available and nobody is buying it.

I'm posting this one last time because I just realized my stupid formulas were still referencing some February cells. Sorry for the misinformation. It's interesting to me that the Gen-over-Gen console sales are actually up a bit, even with the Wii U and last-gen consoles not pulling their weight. Also, the Nintendo family sales are really dire. I don't normally include Gen-over-Gen family sales, but in 2007 Nintendo sold 933K total units of hardware, and in 2008 they sold 1419K units. This generation has been brutal for them.

The people who wanted an XBO for Titanfall had already purchased an XBO for Titanfall. Everyone else who wanted Titanfall who had not purchased an XBO by March had already resigned themselves to getting it on PC or 360.

we know that now but I think everyone was expecting Titanfall to move boxes in the same way Gears did for the 360.

What is everyone playing on these PS4's? I'm looking hard for a reason to jump into next gen and I haven't seen one yet.

Well let's have a look at March. Infamous, Call of Duty. MGS5 GZ, NBA all sold more on PS4 than Xbox One. The general consensus has become that the PS4 is the place with the best looking multiplatform games - similar to the 360 vs. the PS3 - and so most people are buying the system for that reason, aside from the $100 difference.

We shall see next month.

I'm actually interested in seeing the tail on Titan Fall.

COD4 and Halo weren't overnight successes. They were small snowballs that built and built and built over the course of a year or so.

Give how expensive games are now, people are pretty hesitant to jump into new IPs they don't have a lot of experience with already. Name a new franchise that's done big numbers this year...I can't think of one off the top of my head.

So TF may continue to sell very well (and XBO may continue to benefit, if only marginally) as the months go on and word of mouth continues to stay strong.

Honestly I haven't met anybody who's played Titan Fall that didn't love the hell out of it.

I think TF2... which will probably launch on both XBO and PS4... will be where Titan Fall gets it's massive, industry shaking day-one sales.

For those whose reading comprehension didn't go past the 2nd Grade, here is the Twitter conversation:

Now explain how that comment shouldn't have been posted. Or does every single word from MS have to be "We suck, our system is shit" or we'll have to endure your shitty "clever" remarks?

wow really, insulting fellow GAF members when only that "phil spencer" tweet was provided? great job man.

Oh. My. God.

I... I... refuse to believe this. I think this is the clearest example ever of moving the goal posts.

Yeah they wouldn't have hyped it up and have every one of their execs talking about it if they weren't putting a lot of stock in it. They were obviously expecting to win march npd

Just wanted to mention that it might be possible that Microsoft has a Scanned Based Trading relationship with some of its retailer partners. In those cases the manufacturer still actually owns the product even when it is at the store up until the consumer actually purchases the product. More and more retailers are doing this as it drives inventory costs off of their books onto their suppliers books. Wal-Mart for example was one of the first and largest companies to do this. I have no specific knowledge of how Microsoft does its contracts with its retail partners but if they are a scan based trading supplier then saying they 'shipped' units does not mean they 'sold' those units.

I don't think that is true though. Retailers can't discount off MRSP in such systems right?

Believe it or not, most people don't just like listening to podcasts where their favorite console is fellated nonstop. I could do that in the privacy of my own home if I wanted.

The two of you were so right about the Xbox One's outselling the PlayStation 4 . . .

That 2nd one is so hilariously off the mark, if they thought they hit the bullseye, the dart boomeranged to the back of their head with a nice dose of derp.

EDIT: Also gonna bookmark that one for future hilarity.

"But you could also argue Microsoft selling 5 million Xbox One units at that higher price point is as much an achievement as Sony selling 7 million PS4 units at its lower one."

I can't even.

Oh wow lol, so does Sony also get an achievement for selling PS3 @ 600$ the past generation? XD

ALL retail games sales are heavily front loaded.

That's not what he's getting at. Some games continue to sell well while others fall completely flat. I'd say it's a function of how active the MP is and what the price drop strategy from the publisher is. I'm sure SP DLC support has some affect too.

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Where does this new (?) idea that Titanfall wasn't supposed to change sales figures come from? Even MS admitted TF was a gamechanger for them.

Who fucking knows. Since MS got exclusivity for consoles, this has been said to be a huge boost for sales.

Not sure why people are saying otherwise.

Unexpected ps4 win. Titanfall did well, but not as it hype predicted, it didn't move many consoles. Xone will do well in the US, but will be way behind ps4, that will make it hard for MS to buy exclusives unless very US centric.

They still have a chance to lead the us this year if they have halo5 for holiday and a price cut

That wrong article is wrong from the first sentence. The gap is even wider than 2 million as its just 5 million sold to retail not customers...

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
To the people stating that the Xbox is only available in 13 markets: you clearly haven't seen the amount of Xboxes we have at every single retailer here in Sweden (and most other European counties) where it hasn't had an official launch. It's better stocked than PS4.

Hmmm didn't they recently release that Xbone software attach rate is 2.9, while PS4 is 2.93. If this is true, that means PS4 is doing more digital sales than Xbone?

Xbox One also has more retail games that I am aware of. So I'm sure that 10% number was true at launch, probably not now. Unless that 10% is current and Titanfall sold that much, of course.

Multipats games sold better on PS4 (save Lego game) this month, I guess that means Titanfall sales were pretty huge.
Almost every person I know personally that got an XB1 got the console for Titanfall. I'm sure the attach rate is ridiculous.

Just my two cents but I for one think Titanfall sold fantastically well

NPD numbers would only track XB1 retail sales and PC retail sales of the game

PC retail sales would be almost negligible

With the fact it sold > 1M [not sure if that includes bundles or not]

TF sold ~1M at least on an install base of 2.527M

That's an attach rate of 39.57%

That's insane. Well done Respawn and EA

Think about how much more it is with people going all digital too. I'd actually wager the attach rate might be up around 45% with digital factored in. Flipping insane really.

It's not a flop, the game itself sold very well (but who doubted otherwise). The reason people are calling it a flop is because it failed to do what it was supposed to. MS was banking everything on it, they spent millions on advertisements, the press yapped on and on about it and X1, they even issued unofficial price cuts to go along with it and yet not only did it not beat the PS4 (which was a good amount ahead), it actually sold less per week than in Feb.

That's the very definition of failure, and there's no way MS is happy with it.

Turns out it's a good, but run of the mill FPS, and not the revolutionary, ground breaking game it was hyped up to be.

What? Even if MS supported it the way they did a new Halo, it did great and will probably go on to do pretty damn well the rest of the year as the SMALL, SMALL userbase grows and it hits a holiday. I have no idea what the hell you guys were expecting..... the XBox One would sell a couple million in a non holiday month and TF to do 4+ million?

A Halo dropped this early in a console lifespan wouldn't have done substantially better, either.

do you guys think MGSV Ground Zeroes was worth it from a financial perspective?

211K in JPN first week and 278K in US first month. Multiplied by $30 (2980 yen = 29 dollars) will give about 14 million in revenue between them.

Probably makes it worth it right?

Thank you (and everyone else) for your answer. I guess my problem is that I already have a 360 and PS3, and apart from the bump in graphics, I haven't seen any next-gen experiences that I want and can't get on my current platforms. Most of the system exclusives that I enjoyed from the last gen were on the 360, and Xbox Live was miles ahead of PSN. I have heard that the gap is closing fast, but PSN still makes me wary, and I'm reticent overall to drop $500+ (system plus another controller and tax makes this the minimum) for what's out there at the moment.

Oh well, didn't mean to turn this into a thread derail.

Yeah its really crazy. I certainly didnt expect it to be over a million. Even crazier you have people suggesting the game flopped because it didnt force a million people to run out and spend $500 in March. Just SMH...

I remember Konami saying they were either going to speed up or slow down MGS5 based on how it did...

I don't think that is true though. Retailers can't discount off MRSP in such systems right?

The retailer *could* set their system to sell at a different price point but the supplier is still going to expect the payment sent to them to be at the previous cost which they had communicated to the retailer earlier via UPC communication which is then acknowledged by the retailer as being received and active. A retailer adjusting it on their own is going to likely cause problems. For an SBT relationship costs have to be in snyc at all times, cost changes are sent in advance with activiation dates by the supplier so everyones system is ready for when a price on a product is going to change.

Most of the time the supplier and retailer would work together on a price change if such was happening due to an upcoming promotion or permanent change in sales price. So if Microsoft or any supplier for that matter wanted to have a special sales promoted that they say on 3/15 begin selling a SKU for XXX.XX and keep that active until 4/15 for example and then change back to ZZZ.ZZ, they could do so without too much trouble if everything is running as it should.

Since both sides are carefully monitoring sales movement I've seen both sides offer up 'suggestions' on price changes although you need retailer okay typically before doing so as it could effect their margins on that square footage of store space.

Well, Microsoft got themselves into a fucked up position last gen.

Because they got to #1 in America, they shifted their entire company structure to something that relied on that.

Of the three companies, they're the worst with 1st-party studios and self-made exclusives. They depend on 3rd-party sales more than any other company. AND additionally, every single major franchise of theirs is a "Me too" game that has a parallel on the PS4.

Additionally, their bread & butter profit is from Xbox Live Gold. But now with PS+ charging AND being the more popular device, it's only a matter of time until those XBL numbers dwindle significantly as people see no need to pay for both, especially as their friends are all on PS4.

So less 3rd-party sales (As most people will eventually get a PS4, and multi-plats are better there), less 1st-party games, and less XBL Gold subscribers = a LOT less sales.

I agree. Twice in a row with the Original Xbox & the Xbox 360, Microsoft comes on strong early throughout each generation & brings out loads of exclusives, then they start slowing down on that front after a few years in where they milk their biggest IP's and let 3rd party titles do the rest of the work.

It's like they have no long-term commitment towards 1st party exclusives at all, outside of their biggest sellers. Both Nintendo & Sony have always had long-term commitment towards 1st/2nd party titles, save for Nintendo with the Wii starting in 2011.

Microsoft could've been even more relevant on that front had they done that, & not just rely on Halo, Gears, Forza, Kinect, & 3rd party games doing the work for them since E3 2010.

I think just the price is killing the xbone more than any if the ps4's games and performance

If both consoles play a majority of of the same games and I doubt that the typical consumer cares about resolution or if the game is 30/60fps. They see that price tag and that glaring 100 dollar difference. That alone is the gamechanger.

They still have a chance to lead the us this year if they have halo5 for holiday and a price cut

Halo isn't the same franchise that it used to be, price cut may help... but the unofficial one didn't make that much of a difference even while including free games and whatnot.

The thing is that word keeps spreading around about the PS4 being more powerful than the XBO. At least that's how it is with the people i hang out with, so... why would you buy the less powerful and most expensive system?
exclusives i know but... we've seen the difference that TF ha made...
