NPD Sales Results for October 2007

Nice numbers for Nintendo/Microsoft. I figured that Sony's announcement today that the PS3 was selling so well post-price cut was because they knew that they would still be trailing in the October NPD.

wow, Halo 3 will easily pass 4 million

it's on track to sell much more than halo 2 in a shorter amount of time

The game HAD to have attracted new players

360 very, very good? An October following the release of Halo 3? That's plummeting.

Of course, it did very, very good compared to the awful-selling PS3.

What are you saying? The NPD period went through Nov. 3rd. 40GB officially launched on Nov. 2nd and some retailers broke that release date early (Like Target.) There are units sold included in that. Sure it's offset by nobody wanting to buy prior to its release, but 40GB figures are not completely absent.
If it wasn't included my figure of 95,000 units might have been close.

They are included.

It needs to sell more than the 360 did last year at the same price - 511k. If they can't move that given what they pack into the box, they're still in pretty deep trouble.

It's bound to get near 400k, no?

Pretty much :lol

So wait did PGR4 and AC6 just bombed on the 360? Namco should have definitely released the PS3 version first.

74k is not bad for 2 weeks of Ratchet. We will see if it has legs.

Uh, what? AC6 and Ratched launched on the same day, buddy. AC6 sold 92k and Ratchet sold 75. How are you spinning that AC6 bombed while Ratchet sales were "not bad".

Are you serious?

360

Sept 105k per week.
Oct 91k per week.

I am very surprised it was able to stay that close to the Halo 3 launch month.

[WII Guitar Hero III] = 286.3K

Holy shit! I did not expect that at all. I was sure this would have sold <100K.

:lol @ ps3.

It's as if Sony thought we wouldn't have gotten the NPD.

I'll go over this again since we got the PS3 numbers.

GH3 sales this october:

383.2k [360]
286.6k [Wii]
271.1k [PS2]
231.7k [PS2 - guitarless]
105.8k [PS3]

The PR mentions 1.4 million units sold across all platforms. Which means the guitarless 360 version must have sold 121.6k.

This can't be right, since the 10th game in the chart sold only 116.9k.

What is this devilry? Why is my math not working... Wha.........

Considering the absolutely gigantic marketing blitz behind it, it's a sure bet.

Castlevania???
I'd like to see this as well, did it do anywhere near DoS or PoR?

Also, can we get Phoenix Wright Trials and Tribulations numbers? I know Front Mission bombed so I suppose I don't want to see those... :(

I keep telling you. Except for about 200,000 of them, they all have 360's. It's the same userbase that had no interest in Blue Dragon or Viva Pinata, no matter how good they were or how awesome they looked.
Stop talking out your ass....

Software sales are arguably very, very good though.

They had a couple at TRU on Monday night when I was trying to pick up SMG. I was very close to grabbing one and putting it up for bid.

No kidding...if I get my hands on 2 or 3 they're going up for sure. Sky's the limit around Christmas and the demand will definitely be there.

So Sony is not only bleeding money on the hardware side, they're also bleeding money on the software side. Ratchet probably wasn't cheap, Lair and Heavenly sword wasn't cheap and I don't think they're gonna recoup their cost at all.

Deadlocked wasn't a true sequel and was basically a spin-off. Released with very little hype, no advertising and decent but by no means great reviews.

Tools of Destruction - completely different situation.

from 29th until 12th, PS3 sold 175k... Obviously some of that went into October, but also obviously not a whole lot, lol.

Poor RC! Hopefully pick up from holiday sales will help it sell decently over holidays, with nudge from marketing.

edit: no wonder Sony issued that PR - to stop their stock going down, lol!

From what I've seen, 75,000 came in that week. So 100,000 in the following 10 days. If you multiply that by 3, it's 300,000. That would not be a success when people are comparing it to Wii and 360. It's needs to do significantly better. November numbers aren't August numbers.

Loudninja, you just made my ignore list.

Or maye he's comparing them based on the vast difference in hardware install base. :lol

PS3	121K 121 0

That's just scary accurate. Too bad the aggregate didn't do as well on the other numbers this month.

Code:
       NPD GAF aggregate difference
Wii 519K 429 90

360 366K 346 20
PSP 286K 222 64

where are you getting the 92k from? From what I gather, the numbers he posted up are just predicted numbers, and not actual numbers.

Not actual because the Halo 3 numbers are different.

The 80GB PS3 price drop is in this as well as 2 days of the 40GB sales.

Yeah, but it took about 2 weeks for the 80gb price cut to appear in the Sunday ads. Nobody aside from those who keep watch on prices really knew about until the same weekend the 40gb appeared in advertisements.

Only the PS2 had better October console sales (twice), and the Wii this year. Ever.

360 is 490K combined, as per the first post

Another HD bomba. PGR4 wasn't cheap either.

With Wii bombas, your development cost was very cheap compared to thier HD counterparts, at the very least.

So Metroid Prime 3 seems to have run out of gas. august: 218.1k, september: 167k, october: 45.2k. Total = 430.3k. Certainly reasonable sales, but not a smash hit.

I'm sure it'll see a slight boost over the holidays.
