We need the full numbers for Wii Fit Plus including the ones that were bundled with the balance board. It's possible Wii Fit was actually #1.

Nintendo's press release will probably have them.
Those refer to SKU bundled with console hardware, like MW2 + 360.

Brutal Legend bomba, really too bad for Tim. I hate when big games release at the end of the month cause its NPD's are all screwed up as we have to wait an extra month to see how it really does. I wouldn't call Forza 3 a bomba or Ratchet and Clank, if they don't chart in november then yeah thats really unfortunate for them.

I love that reasoning. I really do. :lol
Sometimes I sit at my desk thinking, "I want to play a game, but I don't want to get the case out of my bookcase and then replace them and wait for it to boot up again and then install it and all that."

I really like handheld gaming for that, and I almost always opt for DD when I can because it's right there.

I really wish we'd have consoles with disk changers like you can buy a CD player. The PS3 was big enough to have a 3-Blu-Ray belly. I would have loved that.

Also, I could see Ratchet not charting a mile away. Should have been a nice summer release instead.

Same with Forza 3. Both games would have fared better in the slower months.

I don't think Uncharted 2's numbers are THAT impressive all things considered, but then again PS3 owners are not really big fans of video games in general :lol

So can somebody explain to me why the 360's October was so shitty? IT tremendously low for a holiday console in its 4th year.

i don't know, but probably the most obvious reason.. both competitors had price drops?

Last years numbers:

PlayStation 2 136K
PlayStation 3 190K
PSP 193K
Xbox 360 371K
Wii 803K
Nintendo DS 491K

Slow night, let me pretty that up for you:

Code:
               Oct 2008 Oct 2009 Change %
               -------- -------- --------
Playstation 2 136K 117.8K -13.4
Playstation 3 190K 320.6K +68.7
PSP 193K 174.6K -9.5
Xbox 360 371K 249.7K -32.7
Wii 803K 506.9K -36.9
Nintendo DS 491K 457.6K -6.8

The PS3 is the only system that increased from last year, Wii has the largest drop.

Don't see why everyone's happy about the Uncharted 2 sales..they're OK..but will PS3 ever have a million seller out the gate like 360 does all the time? Look at how Borderlands did. Not that far behind Uncharted and I'm sure we'd all agree Uncharted is the bigger release. And if you add in the PS3 sales of Borderlands it probably tied or beat all of Uncharted 2 (in America at least).

MW2 will post 1 million in it's first month on PS3. Don't forget too that MW1 was the first game ever to pass 1 million sold in NPD on the system.

LBP and KillZone 2 also had terrible openings then. But both ended up selling decently. So I think we'll have to wait a bit before calling Forza 3 a bomb, right Mr Sony PR guy?

Well, they did have terrible openings (According to GAF), so yeah. And of course waiting is always good, but we're not focusing on 12 months from now when we see sales for this month, we're talking about this month. As I said, Forza 3 had a terrible opening. We'll see if it sells terribly in the future. And for the record, LBP and KZ2 did have bad first month figures.

itxaka said:
They both ended selling +1 million didn't them?

WW yes, but we don't know about specifically in NA. I haven't a clue, but probably not.

gofreak said:
It's a bit unfortunate given all the talk Turn10 talked, but in fairness, something like LBP for example may have continued to bubble away long after it dropped off our sales radar. It certainly did in other territories, and ultimately accumulated good sales (and continues to grow).

So I wouldn't write it off just like that, you never know, F3 may keep bubbling.

Agreed on both fronts. I said it had a terrible opening, but we'll see if it sells better in the future, I'm sure it will, but my opinion stands. :/

OldJadedGamer said:
Forza 2 posted a higher second months NPD than it did the first month that it was released.

As I stated here, and what you quoted, it had a terrible opening.

Really glad Borderlands paid off for Gearbox, always been a fan of the studio and look forward to seeing what they have coming next.

Yeah I was starting to worry if Gearbox was going to make it through this year. Glad to see a hit from them, and I think the word of mouth for the game could even mean a bigger November. Of course MW2, L4D2 and Assassins Creed 2 could prevent that from happening.

Thanks for that. Don't think the Wii is that big of a deal given how insanely high last year was..but like I said, the 360 number is disappointing IMO.

Those Forza numbers are gonna serve a lot of people some crow. It's PGR4 all over again. So much for the GT killer! It'll probably do 2 million tops worldwide, unless MS decides to bundle it again.

Next month we'll get the memo that MS is disbanding Turn 10. :(

I thought the forza sales only counted for five days which is only 1/6th of a month?

Seriously?

I would like to see Demon's Souls numbers... Yay for Uncharted 2, Wii and PS3.

Edit: Forgot Borderlands... Yay for Gearbox too :D

There wasn't much else to play to the 360 unless you were a Halo fanatic. The PS3 folks were playing UC2 and Demon's souls, with Ratchet on the horizon. I did finally get Borderlands on the PS3 with the BB B2G1 deal and plenty of people playing on my friends list. It might be a slow burner.

I think "bundled with hardware" means bundled with a console, not bundled with a peripheral.

It's what happens when two competitors vie for the exact same market. As I said earlier in the thread, the difference between the PS3/360's sales last year and this year is roughly 10k units. Perhaps it's too early to tell, but it seems that the PS3's price cut isn't doing anything to expand the audience of people willing to buy either a PS3 or a 360, but merely stealing thunder from the 360's sales.

You got me, it'll magically sell a million copies in November and steal Call of Duty, L4D2 and AC2's thunder. Can't put anything past you guys!

Jesus talk about something that won't die. No software to push it, it's going to reach it's decade anniversary next year, and the thing still does over 100k.

Call me crazy but I really think that SONY could be kicking themselves for not focusing on the Playstation 2 longer before announcing a successor.

Also holy shit did the PSP Go! bombed. I wouldn't be surprised if SONY is carefully planning the next successor. Than again they would be killing something that's profitable for the company. Anything that softens the burns of the Playstation 3 loss per unit helps.

Also is the low sales due solely because of the recession? Or due to the saturation of the target market of the consoles?

However, notable by their Top 10 absence were any music titles, including DJ Hero, as Frazier commented: "The music/dance genre saw big declines this month compared to last year. The genre generated $53 million in sales [in October] as compared to $137 million last year. Both Rock Band: The Beatles, and Guitar Hero 5 have the potential to be good gifting items for the holidays, so we should expect to see an uptick in sales over the next two months."

Music games are seriously dead. Jesus.

When you release new hardware and the sales decrease in the launch month..... you have a problem. :lol

Operation "buy a PSPGo for $100 in March" is right on track.

It's a shame that EA have adopted a commendable change in attitude to the the games they publish, but aren't being rewarded for it by healthy sales.

serious question: is that number good for Uncharted 2? it's on top, which leads me to believe it has done really good. But I mean, how does it compare to the first and is it good in a slow month or good in general? my view is all mixed up after seeing Modern Warfare 2 selling enough to buy a small country.

I dunno, most games don't just magically sell half a million on debut, just because "there was nothing else to buy".
