I've also seen a plenty of Digital Guardian editions being played on my PS4 news feed. Me being one of them, as I bought the digital version to get access to beta, and for the convenience.

Maybe it's just me, but the only version displayed in the "games your friend played" is the Digital Guardian Edition, even for me, even though I've got a physical copy.

The problem is that the harder they try to give the hardware away, the more they risk devaluing their product, a lower price doesn't make people want the product, a lower price allows people to afford the product provided they want it, and right now it's simply not the console most people want. The problem is that the more they try to give it away, the more the higher ups would tend to think that this Xbox thing is becoming an unprofitable dead end.

It's ~25-30% for new titles on PS4 / XBO...a major jump from last gen.

Wow! That is quite substantial. I've been a long time brick and mortar guy but I'm starting to come around. Bought AC and Far Cry 4 two weeks ago after reading all the preload hype. It's got the timer and everything lol. Gonna be sweet to not have to leave my house on day one.

xbone got Ps4 one week last month and there's NOTHING for christmas coming out on Ps4 that can compete with halo.

halo is the 3rd or 4th most iconic video game franchise of all time behind mario and pokemon and maybe zelda. the halo collection

This is a good point. Unless they come up with something pretty imaginative all they're doing at the moment is manoeuvring themselves into a dead end.

However for console gaming in general there is the Magic sweet spot that all consoles try to strive for as far as pricing. The infamous 299 has been touted by many as that elusive magic number that if you can hit it while staying profitable will really move consoles along.

That's basically it. I did the same with the Wii U in Australia, where retailers had effective fire sales that resulted in $150 (!!!) basic consoles.

With Microsoft flailing, I'm going to wait for the actual price to tank further because they seem willing to go all in just to hold on to market share.
