Yup. I share your pain. All hopes rest on Driveclub, and that fucker is limping out of the gate with a terminal disease :(

I assume FH2 is sitting somewhere around 500k including Europe and digital and I really hope this comes at least close to MSs expectations.

The idea that this might be the last Horizon makes me sad.

This entire month of sales and this thread have been totally worth it simply for CrazedProfessional's meltdown over the past 12 hours. Bravo good sir, pure gold entertainment!!!

I just find it a shame that consumers aren't buying the console that has superior content, online, OS and controller. Come holiday the gap in content will become more apparent which should move millions of units so I will just play the waiting game.

NOA needs to be destroyed and rebuilt. Being outpaced by Nintendo Australia is inexcusable.

They do have value lined up. The content coming up is insane.

Sure, raw power is key now that your favourite is winning. No way buddy, multiplats sold high on Wii in generations past. Multiplats is the base but not the flavour.

Sony posters never see a storm coming. That's why the PSP and Vita came second despite being predicted otherwise on Gaf. They see hype with one eye and post with the other.

I'm not crying, I'm just disappointed.

I love monopolies too, don't forget to order your 64gb memory card and Playstation TV, all products which are totally supported by the market leader with competitive pricing and high quality software.

Yes, I should tell Nintendo and Microsoft to make their OS even more barebones and make their controllers out of the cheapest plastic and rubber in order to appeal to the market.

There are people here who believe. They believe that the better offering is there and they post about it, regardless of the results this month it will not stop the Xbox One from getting the best exclusive content for 2014.

They should not be shat on for expressing that belief.

The Xbox One numbers are fine and will probably lead to a close race when the holiday marketing period kicks in and shows off the content.

280k is amazing, not many people can see the seeds of a comeback and it's a good start because the exclusive content on the Bone hasn't even started yet.

When it rains it pours.

You better pray it will be enough later, a monster Sony means stagnation and complacency.

The PS4 isn't selling, the idea of the PS4 that Sony sold pre launch is selling. Looking at the PSN issues recently, people are realizing Sony is running off Snake Oil fumes.

It stunk but that didn't stop them from improvement. Sony's complacency is leading to the exact opposite.

I seriously doubt that. That sales for 5 days in USA only. I'm sure global is a lot higher.

forza horizon sales are sad. if you can only do that despite having real cars fantasy, full open world, trendy online features, glowing reviews, what kind of chance would a motorstorm or f-zero have in this market. zero. zilch.

arcade racers :(

I think Motorstorm do have good potencial on ps4. Forza problem is milking.

That definitely is the thing that leaves me scratching my head. I wouldn't say there are zero desirable games on PS4 though.

As 2001 went on, it became harder and harder for me to resist buying a PS2. I eventually bought one in early 2002.

Onimusha, Klonoa 2, Twisted Metal: Black, Gran Turismo 3, Silent Hill 2, Ico, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Jak and Daxter, and Final Fantasy X. These were all the games I wanted to play that came out in 2001 and, at the time, you had to get a PS2 to play them.

That's not even counting solid games like Tony Hawk 3 or SSX Tricky which also came out that year, but were multiplatform.

I compare PS2's 2001 to PS4's 2014 (the first full calendar year after each console's launch) and although we still have just under two and a half months to go, I don't see myself buying a PS4 for a while. A lot of people feel differently than me though. Over 10 million, in fact. Even Shuhei Yoshida doesn't know why PS4 is so popular. It's a bit of a different landscape too, and I am buying a lot more games for PC than I did back then. But even so, I really just don't get the popularity.

Well I was taking the mick out of the people saying PS4 has 0 games just because it has 0 games they want to play.

Technically fall 2001, the one which had all those legendary games being released, was PS2's second year on the market. You have to bear in mind that a lot of thise games from that period where Japanese and that was the PS2's second year in Japan.

PS4's second year in Japan and consequently the Japanese releases next in year in the West are looking much much better: Bloodborne, MGSV, FF Type 0 HD, RE R2, DQ Heroes, Persona 5, Ys, Disgaea, etc

As ridiculous as this might appear at first glance, there is a small element of truth and it shouldn't be dismissed because of the rest of the post.

What is really selling the PS4 over the X1? It's certainly not the exclusive software. It can't be games like Destiny, which are also available on the competing platform.

So it stands to reason that people are buying into the idea of the PS4 more than anything else. It's the platform of choice for this generation, everything about the platform has fed into this idea, from the day it was revealed to the day it launched, there's been a strong belief that the PS4 is the only console to get.

it's the true games console, the only one that will provide the best and most engaging gaming experiences. The idea took root and it's one that MS will be fighting (a losing battle) for the entire generation.

People can pretend MS has a chance so future NPD threads will be entertaining as we act shocked at how much the PS4 outsold the X1, but deep down, everyone knows it's already over.

Sony won this generation on May 21 2013 and cemented their victory on November 15 2013. Anyone who pretends otherwise is lying themselves.

I agree with this and while I think PS4 has the best hardware choices of all (disregarding the controller, but I don't want to discuss this here), I'm a bit sad that this huge sales discrepance between Xbox One and PS4 (and to an extend also Wii U and PS4) is not fuelled by software. It's not software that is pushing PS4 to the top so much, but really perception of hardware, which, for a gamer like me who basically only cares about gameplay, is a bit sad. Mind you, I'm happy that MS fell on its face with DRM, Kinect and bad hardware decisions, but still I'd prefer if the big differences in install base would really come from big, well designed exclusive games - at least between XB1 and PS4, where most of the line-up is identical.

DC numbers will be interesting, something tells me that the digital numbers might be pretty high just due to the fact it was $10 less if you had Plus. Also going to assume it will do better in EuroZone than the US.

They already have taken a big hit, numerous price drops and free games etc and they still have had zero effect.

Now watch what happens when Sony drop the PS4 price.

A drop to match the PS4 price without Kinect and some game bundles that Sony usually matches. Microsoft haven't gone far enough yet.

PS4 - $399, Xbox One - $299
PS4 - €399, Xbox One - €299
PS4 - £349, Xbox One - £249

Now your talking and I don't think Sony would follow so Xbox claws back some mindshare before it's hard to come back from after Christmas.

You said it yourself "most of the lineup is identical".

So why would anyone would want to settle with an inferior console that is actually more expensive or similarly priced.

I think boiling down PS4's success to simply perceptions of hardware is not really accurate. The hardware is a big part of it no doubt, but I think a lot of factors have really worked in PS4's favor besides. XB1's terrible initial approach, strength of Sony franchises as PS3 wound down, and success of Playstation Plus, and the lower price point at launch all gave Sony greater momentum heading into this generation. Word of mouth snowballs, early adopters influence their friends, who influence their friends, etc... I don't even think it's accurate to say that software isn't fuelling sales, it's just software that hasn't been released yet.

I hope your right - that would make me a happy GAFFER.

Also, Helios said in some thread that the Digital numbers are good.

Here´s the quote:

You own the game right? Go to the speed trap to the right of the main festival. Pull up the leader board and you shall have your answer.

Just check the global leaderboards. Should give a pretty accurate idea of how much it's sold.

Not really accurate, because the number will be inflated by multi accounts using same game copy (same system, multi console household, friend trying your game), but you're right it could give an estimate.

I did mainly because I'm more interested in the games coming to Xbox One that won't be on the PS4 vs. the vice versa.

Isn't the first time I chose the weaker console that had more games I was interested in vs. same gen competition at the time I got it (e.g.: PS2).

MS needs to take the same route -- further differentiate even more in terms of games. At this point I think they need a new IP that could get really huge mainstream attention to have a chance at catching up in North America in anyway.

Silly me, I forgot about that aspect.

Should give a somewhat reliable number though, maybe remove 5 to 10 per cent to account for multi account usage and we should have a reasonably reliable figure.

I would assume that the number of people who never played online makes up for that.

OH MY GOD YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND

Aquamarine, I don't know about the desktop website but on mobiles there is an obvious blank line when you have anice email tag with hidden info that's just not there on normal posts. So the obvious thing to look for is the weird formatting, but I guess that has to do with the extra lines you leave between the visible text and the email tags. Have a look at the format of your posts, you'll understand. :)

Jesus tap-dancing Christ. How exactly has he avoided a ban?

That's exactly what I've been wondering. Both he and Hindle have been spouting drivel for days. No idea why the ban hammer has not been let loose upon them. Especially with Hindle spouting nonsense about marketing costs and development costs as facts with 0 actual info to back it up.

Exactly, it's just blatant fanboyism. I was under the impression that it's not tolerated here, it's probably what I like most about GAF

In general it's not. At least when it's completely off the hinges batshit crazy which I would argue Crazy's posts are. All we can really do is make Mods aware of the posts and patiently wait. I'm guessing they will not go without reproach.

This thread is like a smoking, crater ridden battlefield littered with dead bodies and flaming wreckage alike.

Poor ol' Crazedprofessional simply rocks back and forth gently whispering "Master Chief Collection" to himself over and over and over again.

A grim scene to be sure.

By the way, do we have a rough estimate or ballpark figure for Xbone sales numbers this month?
