I think some people have an inflated sense of what FH2/Sunset Overdrive/H:MCC mean.
In terms of software, last I checked, PS4 has a wider library available, a wider pipeline of content coming, and typically (relative to XB1) the best versions of multiplatform games. And while Sony may not be firing on all cylinders in terms of its first party output this year, there's plenty coming.
Software does sell hardware, and is selling PS4s. There are other big factors too, chief among them the network effects of being the most popular console, but I think some people have a very narrow idea of how software factors into a system's desirability if they're just pitching relatively mediocre first party lineups against each other (and yes, I don't think XB1's first party lineup this year is particularly strong either).
