I don't have an xbox one but the biggest surprise for me is Forza Horizon 2 didn't chart at all? especially with the great reviews and massive marketing campaign.

Is this the end for that franchise? would be sad if it was as I loved the first one.

I'm supressing laugh this whole morning, but that gif brought me down, I'm in tears. Epic NPD thread.

Nah, I'd be very surprised if MS pulled the plug. Instead they shoukd maybe rethink tgeir approach when it comes to Horizon 3... or heck, maybe they sold enough to eventually profit off of it.

Sorry but this whole chartzz issue is extremely .....odd. On both sides. Surely there's a better way to handle this than all this drama? And Aqua I mean no offense to you girl I got mad love for all your info/insight...I just don't understand why this is even a thing.

There are good people on both forums. Don't let a few bad apples shape your view on every one of them. And yes I'm including ioi in the bad apples category here

It's obviously a joke.

Just catching up on this thread now and all the replies from Hindle and CrazedProfessional really are great. Definitely not disappointed.

And vita did better than I expected, especially given how we keep hearing that it's so hard to find in stores.

Lol
Guess it is a joke but I have seen around people really do judge and pick what games they play just on the games score I just always found that sad as fuck
Just the idea that if that's how I would pick my games I would've missed on some of the best games ever on my master system Saturn and so on ..

But any ways sorry on my not picking up on the sarcasm it's been a long night

And CrazedProfessional post really are something else lmao lol

Yeah thats the crazy thing here.

PS4 bested even the all mighty PS2 despite having 0 games. None. Zilch. Okay I guess Destiny counts so 1. Imagine what will happen when PS4 actually gets some games......things will be interesting.

That definitely is the thing that leaves me scratching my head. I wouldn't say there are zero desirable games on PS4 though.

As 2001 went on, it became harder and harder for me to resist buying a PS2. I eventually bought one in early 2002.

Onimusha, Klonoa 2, Twisted Metal: Black, Gran Turismo 3, Silent Hill 2, Ico, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Jak and Daxter, and Final Fantasy X. These were all the games I wanted to play that came out in 2001 and, at the time, you had to get a PS2 to play them.

That's not even counting solid games like Tony Hawk 3 or SSX Tricky which also came out that year, but were multiplatform.

I compare PS2's 2001 to PS4's 2014 (the first full calendar year after each console's launch) and although we still have just under two and a half months to go, I don't see myself buying a PS4 for a while. A lot of people feel differently than me though. Over 10 million, in fact. Even Shuhei Yoshida doesn't know why PS4 is so popular. It's a bit of a different landscape too, and I am buying a lot more games for PC than I did back then. But even so, I really just don't get the popularity.

By the way, could anyone who has followed the development of the game closely tell me what kind of a budget a game like Forza Horizon 2 would have? It's not my cup of tea but would hate to see such a franchise has its future cut off due to bad sales.

I worry what kind of output we will have in the racing game genre going forward. I have a feeling Crew might tank too :S..maybe DriveClub also? Don't want a GT/Forza only future on consoles

where my Burnout Revenge 2 dammit

PS4 numbers are crazy, my prediction was way off.

Imagine what numbers they will do when the sleeping giant that is their first party studios wakes up.

Racing games aren't big in US, didn't Horizon 2 sell ~60-75k in the UK? The US is a market 6x the size and it didn't even sell double the amount there. Horizon 1 didn't chart back in 2012 either, either they must be happy that Europe sales make it up or the games don't need to sell big numbers to be profitable.

I wonder if Microsoft will take a big hit this year to slow down PS4 adoption because once it reaches a tipping point and consumer minds are swayed substantially to one side your looking at PS2 versus Xbox or thereabouts. Xbox One needs a price cut Sony won't follow. $299, €299, £249.

Agreed but my worry is the system the game is on. Considering the xbox 'afaik' isn't doing too hot outside of UK in EU, I can't see those markets helping the sales too much :S

Have MS bundled Horizon before? I recall seeing a ton of Forza bundles but don't remember any Horizon ones.

Damn, just finished reading this whole thread instead of studying for exams. First time I paid any attention to the NPD results, beyond looking through the first page. Can't say I wasn't entertained.

Anyway, I might have missed the numbers for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Can someone direct me to those if they were mentioned?

It stunk but that didn't stop them from improvement. Sony's complacency is leading to the exact opposite.

Sadly they haven't improved enough. It would be a loooong way to catch up with mindshare of PS4.
Also, it can't be expressed enough that you can't, can't, can not patch the hardware. Once you make grand design of a hardware to sell for years you must live with the architecture. There's a certain limit that services and firmware could do for compensation.

Edit: It's worth noting that Xbone is selling well too...

You should get a PS4 and cheer the fuck up fella, this much depression isn't healthy :(

Actually don't, just go and play your xbox abit more it's got some cracking games but please stop being so salty/bitter.

We've pretty much reached that stage already.

Just lol if you think Sony don't have aces up their sleeve. Unlike MS, they don't have to do a thing right now. MS is hitting them with everything they have and not even putting in a dent.

Why would Sony play any of their hand now, when they can just reveal features and games at a point where after which they can release them in a timely manner, thus increasing their reputation this gen and delivering even more sales for the PS4? This isn't last gen where PS3 had to release anything out to the press instantly, to which we'd have to wait. Hell, some of the things we never even saw, like TLG. Why would Sony need to perform a repeat of that instead of keeping their hand close to their chest until they have to unleash it?

Funny how now they have Xbox One on the ropes, they bring out a taster of their hidden artillery with an update in features added to the impending 2.00 update.

All of their studios are working on games, they just haven't revealed them yet. Seriously, stop sounding so bitter.

Wait, when people quote the email tagged posts... doesn't it defeat the purpose - or is it only those with an account that can actually see the text?

Oh nvm. ekim's post earlier confused me, it must have been before the email tags were put in.

Except that the PS2 came out in 2000. So you are comparing the PS2 second year to the PS4 first year.
