Looks much better without the screws...

So has anyone noticed that the Titan X is still selling for around $700 on eBay?

Are people unaware of the 1080 or is it the 12GB of VRAM that is keeping prices up?
Maybe just those already with Titans looking for a SLI setup keeping the market up? Don't know...

Not dipping on anything 1080 related until I get a card with x2 8 pins, hopefully MSI and their custom cooler will have that.

I don't think we're going to see that until the TI. Even then you'll probably only see 8+6 until they release their Highest end cards.

I'm biting at 8+8+6... Maybe. Those usually don't show up until months later. 8+6 might be enough. I hope these cards are efficient enough for 8+6 to only be as high as they need to go.

Apparently this Zotac one does have two 8 pins?

Jay explains it in a nice and understandable way.. you can make it hold a stable clock and oc, but it requires you to alter the fan speed to 80-100%(something that will make the card noisy)
wait until other cards are released with custom coolers, unless you really really need a blower cooler.

Jesus, not great! I'm desperate for a new card, as I can't even use my Vive. Are we looking at AIB in the next 2 weeks?

Im in the same situation as you man.(Unusable Vive and gsync) I know that pain :(

Im currently doing a wait and see approach. If AIB cards are announced to be coming within 2 weeks, I'll just buy the 1080FE or 980ti and return it and pick up the AIB cards once they drop. If not then I might be forced to just get a 1080FE and stick with it until the Ti versions come next year.

Ive never owned a blower card so I dont know what an 80-100% fan profile even sounds like. Is it really that bad or is it similar to the sound of a vanilla Xbox 360 running?

Man I'm conflicted. It's a big purchase so obviously I want to do the right thing but on the other hand I'm really not patient and I literally already have games installed on my SSD that O can't run yet.

It's a nightmare, looking at that Jay video, it really does look like a lot of performance is gonna be lost to throttling, as much as I want that 1080, I can't justify buying something that's not much better than a OC'd ti. So misleading from Nvidia.

Had a Titan X for a short while and over 80% on the blower was basically hair dryer levels of noise. Maybe the 1080 runs quieter though

You just hear air moving, but don't actually hear any sort of mechanical fan noises. I don't think most people would object to 80% too much but 100% would bother me. I think at 60% I can't hear my 980SLI setup from my seat position a few feet away.

Are these AIB cards going to retail for more or less than the founders? Traditionally AIB have always cost more than reference, but as the price on founders has been hiked, where does that leave us? The thought of a £700 custom is not appealing.

i would guess the reference is around 4-5db louder then the custom solutions, also remember its a small fan, so could be a more high pitch sound..
(I base this on a super personal guesstimate)

but no it wont be as horrible as the xbox 360 noisy edition (it helped alot if you cut out the fan grill in the back of the 360 it was very obstructive to the airflow)

Ya, Im only gonna do it because of the potential of multi-projection Pascal cards have with VR. If I was only getting Pascal for my gsync monitor then I'd totally just wait for the 1070 instead.

hm, if it wont be as bad as a vanilla 360, then I wouldnt mind pushing the fan profile to 80-100 in order to OC it.

It can be kind of a mixed bag though. When I had custom cards in my current PC, all of my case fans had to spin up to help exhaust the air that got dumped into the case. With my blower cards, the case fans rarely even turn on. Now I spent a mint to ensure that my case fans are also quiet, but that won't always be the case for everyone.

not really misleading, all their reference cards would be doing this at that low fan speed...
people are just very focused on the reference card this time because its out before the custom cards... but yeah there is no doubt that they where running the fan at a 100% at the demo (but who wouldn't do that)

remember they have been using this cooler on all their cards for many years, and the old cards are even worse. (becomes warmer)

If you think the FE is going to be much cheaper then you might be in for a shock. You are looking at at least £600.

Edit - didn't realise the UK price had been confirmed. £620 then.

sure if you have bad airflow in your case blowerstyle is the way to go, the custom cooler isn't worth anything if its just recycling the same air

Dammit, man, I'll be waiting until August for the 1070, it seems.

Didn't necessarily mean bad airflow... just that you can be trading one noise for a different noise. As long as your case cooling is silent then it won't be an issue.

What if I have a Fractal Design R5 with the stock case fans?

btw don't know if you have blissfully forgotten how noisy the 360 was under full load

:-D

you should be fine, if have mine with both fans in the front running on medium setting, then i have my PSU sucking from the case and have top and bottom holes closed, so all the air from the front gets pushed through the whole case.
I have a MSI GTX980 (should be around the same power output)

But is that 2100 OC even sustainable with 100% fan? Jay doesn't talk about how high he can go with fan maxed. Thing is like Jay said Nvidia weren't even using a full on gaming load with this 'cool' 67 degrees shit.

What I mean is are these custom boards gonna cost around founders price? Normally a nice version will always cost more.

So difficult, but yeah twice the VR performance could be awesome, it's the main reason I sold my ti, and for some improvements with 4K frames.

Just need a good AIB version no more than 12.1 inches. Most I have seen look pretty big so I am not holding out hope. Maybe by the holidays one will come out that will fit my case.

That's why I went with a heavily OC'd 980 ti for my new build, nex time I upgrade it will be for The 1080ti.
I personally wouldn't do that in a million years. Just IMO. 980Ti lol. Nvidia will kill it soon enough. I game 1080p so moving from x70 to x70 works well for me.

It's hard to say, given how sneaky Nvidia have been with the entire launch of this card. They still say the RRP is $599 although nobody can actually buy a card for that price and likely never will be able to. Looking around, prices are already varying from £619-£650 between different companies charging different amounts for the same card - Palit seems cheapest and Asus most expensive right now.

I'd still rather pay extra for a card not hobbled by the poor design of the FE though, when talking about a massive outlay of cash anyway. Might as well pay extra and get a card performing correctly I guess.

Yup, the memories are returning. :p

I think I can live with the sound though. This is assuming the worst case scenario with AIB cards releasing a month or more after the FE.

Yeah i wouldn't bet on an overclock on the reference, just sustained boost clocks.
you can certainly do it, but not sure its healthy for the card to have an OC running all the time,

Remember you wont get that super VR performance before the game gets programmed specifically for pascal. Non optimized VR games will only get the same boost as normal non VR games do.

So I assume that most likely all the AIB cards will be more expensive than the FE?

Also, realistically, how big of a difference in performance are we talking about here between the FE and AIB?

Especially since I'm still playing at 1080p?

Well I guess at a worst case scenario you could always buy an EK block to sort things out.

Just wait 2 weeks and buy a non reference card man

reference blowers are shit, and that fan noise is obnoxious as hell

100 percent fanspeed is LOUD, and if you don't lock it at a fixed speed then it'll constantly be speeding up and down, which is almost even more obnoxious as the pitch of the fan changes constantly

It's only a 180w tdp gpu, with a decent aftermarket cooler on it you will not be able to hear the fan at all as you'll be able to run it at <30 percent fanspeed under load (and the fans will be off when not playing games)

That just seems silly for a new build unless you got an awesome price.

The 1080 FE performs hilariously bad under load at high resolution, it is closer to the 980ti than you might expect, the real upgrade to Pascal will be the 1080ti.

Also, I got the 980ti MSI Gold edition NEW for $300.

Can someone compare 1080p gaming to 4k gaming to me in terms of DBZ power levels

It can reliably do 4K @30-45fps on most games, I saw 4K @60fps on a couple racing games.

If you tone down some stuff you can do it, but it's not really a 4K card until you can do Ultra settings @60fps, I guess.

A "real upgrade" simply depends on what you're upgrading from. And yeah it's pretty easy to turn up your nose at the 1080 when you're picking up a top end 980ti for roughly half price new. If it was that simple, I'd go grab 2-3 of those now and be set.

I'm talking about Pascal, the 1070 is the best bang for your buck, but the 1080 FE is just idiotic I was going to wait for 1070 but I won't wait until July/August to get one of the partner cards and seeing the 1080 benchmarks against the 980ti I think I made the right choice.

I'll just sell this and upgrade to 1080ti when is released.
