Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Are all graphics cards launches such a clusterfuck or just this one? First time I preordered a card at launch haha.

There have been past launches where availability was this scarce, but if you throw in the whole FE pricing fiasco and everything, this is about as frustrating of a launch as I can recall...

So I just upgraded from my 970 to a 1080. Should I have uninstalled my drivers before that? Is it fine if I update via Geforce experience right now?

I would recommend uninstalling all driver packages and Geforce Experience and using the latest version of DDU to make sure you get a clean start. Then install the latest package from Nvidia.

Is this a hard, fixed date? Because I might consider getting another card for preorder.

Nope, just an estimate from the EVGA product manager. He said they'd try to get the cards to Amazon sooner, but most of the initial stock is going towards fulfilling EVGA's own preorders.

Anyone who preorderd G1 1080 from Amazon and recieved it yet?

I preordered mine on 3rd of june before the stock ran out and it has yet to ship.

Amazon is sitting on mine until Friday because I chose super saver shipping. I don't mind that so much as the fact that they hit my credit card on Monday. They shouldn't sit on my payment for 5 days before shipping it.

Ok, weird. I mentioned I spoke to Scan on Tuesday Uk time (It's now Wed just after midnight) and they said Friday.

I got an Email late Tues night saying that my card is expected to ship Tuesday......Even though I ordered for collection.

Guess I'll call them again in the morning and see if its available. Bloody hope so, they charged me last Saturday.

FE is hardly a fiasco, it has effectively increased the prices by a good margin.

This thing chews up and spits out whatever I throw at it. Of course it should since I'm gaming at 1080p. Doom looks insane!

DSR is a thing and you should be abusing it religously. You can easily use 4x DSR to generate a downscaled 4K source resolution and still manage 50-60 fps in DOOM. If you're on a high refresh display, use 2x DSR to downscale from 1440p and stay above 100 fps.

Bro, I think somebody bent your screen.

Enjoy your card man. I am still holding out for my First wave FTW B&H preorder. Have no clue when it will get here but this launch has been such a wreck I just need to stop worrying and do something else. Not even going to track it. When it gets here I will be pleasantly surprised.

Really not sure why people reward this kind of behavior from Nvidia with preorders. Come on guys.
Well, what else to do if you're in the market for a new high end graphics card?
There is no competition in this segment and AMD failed spectacularly to tease any card that could cater to the 1070/1080 buyer crowd at E3 but instead decided to show two low end cards.

Anyone tried playing Mirror's Edge Catalyst yet? I was going to stress test to see if I can replicate the temp issue I was getting playing Doom, and I can't get this game to fully use the GPU. For some reason power is at 3% and I am only getting 949MHz. Mem is down to 4500 as well.

All the settings are on hyper. Vsync off. Mem restriction is off. Still nothing.

Mirrorr's edge runs fine for me, Core Clock at 2025 and Memory at 5164, GPU usage is around 65-75%. Hightest temp for GPUs was 71C

Everything max at 3440x1440

Which card do you have and what temp issues are you having?

No card for me this week either it seems. Apparently "something went wrong with the system" and people after me in the queue got their cards already. This is just getting better and better. Might just get the RX480 on the cheap and wait for Vega/1080Ti. That is if AMD doesn't do as shitty of a launch as this...

I'm not saying don't buy a 1080 at all, it's clearly a really powerful piece of hardware.

I'm saying don't teach Nvidia/3rd parties that paper launching and price gauging is ok by preordering and paying artificially increased prices right now.

Gotta say the MSI gaming X card is excellent, if you want low temps and a virtually no fan noise card, this is the one to get! OC'd to a constant 2025 MHz clock, with a default fan profile, it never goes above 65c and you cannot hear the fans, it's great, and coupled with a 110i GT CPU cooler I've just added, the PC is quieter than I've ever known it. Awesome card.

Yeah I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that the card never went above 65c during three hours of working overtime at PCars in VR at 90Hz..

Unfortunately they don't have any noise tests. For thermal testing they use delta T so you can only really compare it with other results that use delta T. Also their card was not much of an overclocker but we've known that for a while, it's luck of the draw as to how your card overclocks and they are all quite close to each other.

Seems like they couldn't even break the 2 GHz barrier with this card. I guess it really does just come down to the silicon lottery, at least until BIOS modding.

getting a lot of stuttering on forza apex and looking at afterburner the GPU usage is sitting at about 35-40%. Any workarounds? Running at ultra/1440p

edit: ok, so it seems fine if you turn off the dynamic detail stuff. Turn everything up to max and its smooth as silk - and the GPU usage is *still* around 38%..

i currently consider canceling my EVGA FTW preorder and go with MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X after all that positive feedback

The Msi Gaming x has a custom pcb right ?

Yup custom card, I cancelled my FTW for this, so glad I did, my only issue at the moment is that I can't get the MSI gaming app to run on the PC, so I can change the led's etc.

It uses some FE components and such but it is custom, 8+6 power pin and 8+2 for power phases as opposed to 4+1 on FE. For a more in-depth view there's this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmLghOdd8V0

The cooler is why you pay extra and buy that MSI card (or why I bought one).

Doesn't sound too hot. I'm starting to believe the tinfoil hat theory on reddit might be true (partners binning their mid tier cards and saving good chips for Lightning / Classified etc)
