Nvidia Kepler - Geforce GTX680 Thread - Now with reviews

Looks like ME has the DC2 up for preorder, they inflated prices $10 though.

Edit: Ugh that wasn't even the TOP model. They're bilking an extra $30 on the DC2 and $20 on the DC2 TOP

Damn, the Anandtech benches are a real eye opener. At just over 1080P, the 670 is nearly doubling the 470 (which i have) in performance for every game benchmark.

Itch to upgrade getting stronger.

I have never spent $260 on a GPU ever and did with the 7850.. And now I might consider returning and ordering that 670 for $400+

Fucking crazy.

Someone beat me up with a baseball bat to calm me down please.

I've never gone above $300 myself, but the performance of the 670 is so good it is worth looking at. Card is a beast.

Edit: As mentioned below make sure your processor can handle this card first and foremost.

Upgrade your motherboard/proc first. Time for you to leave Phenom land.

It was hard making the transition myself man, but it's a world of difference. Those games where your frames just go to crap for no explainable reason will stop.

Are we looking at history with the GTX 670 release? Seems like a card we will remember with fondness years from now.

Every once in awhile we get a card that blows everyone away, and it looks like we might have hit this point again.

Oh, I can tell. It addresses all of the complaints I have with my current case, the antec twelve hundred. The filtration system on it is a bitch to clean. The drive bays are not accessible from the side, plus have screws to deal with. Can't wait to get something like this.

I have the old 900, and have the same issues as you do. I might be making the Corsair case upgrade too.

So Mkenyon what are you going to do now? You keeping that 690 or going another route now?
This 690 will be installed on my tombstone, complete with water block.

"Here lies mkenyon, a true
idiot
baller with the style and grace to get two Kepler chips on a single PCB"

As far as final build plans go, I'm all over the place right now with case and radiator final choices. Going to put it all in the 600T for now, but even then I'm thinking about cutting it up to fit some better cooling solutions.

No, not at all. This card should have been the 650/650Ti. They're even having to add extra length with the cooling solutions because it's not even a proper PCB size to make you feel like you're getting a fully fledged $400 card.

Cool. I am almost done with my new build. I changed cases from the Antec 280 (which is a damn good case, but wanted better air cooling). I now have the Xigmatec Elysium Case which is so fucking huge it swallows my previous cases...lol. I am still 100% air cooled, but am looking at Water in the future and the Elysium has the room to spare for going to Water when I plan to do it.

The rest of the rig is a 3930k, Asus IV Rampage Extreme, 16gigs of Ram. GPU will be a pair of 690's...yes a pair...lol. I know, it is insane!

I received my tracking information and will have the cards here tomorrow. The new rig is built and ready to go..just waiting on the cards to put it in it's place next to my entertainment system. Will post pics and complete specs tomorrow. I even did some lighting this time, never did that before as well.

Hypothetical:

Worth the hassle to unload my 2.5gb EVGA 570 SLI for that sexy Asus 670? Would pretty much break even on what I paid for the SLI.

How about performance and efficiency differences?

As in, do people think you'd be able to sell the 570s or as in is the 'upgrade' worth it? The first..... maybe. The second can only be answered by you.

But, it'll generally be a downgrade in performance.

You need to stop buying cases unless you have received an okay from me and Feist. :P

Grats on the double 690s though, should be pretty killer performance.

How nice of Amazon to not release the Asus card while I was driving home and having dinner. Now they just need to get it out before I go to bed :<

I've almost given up hope of getting one. I just hope the Gigabyte card turns out to be the 2nd best.

The shortages for these cards is ridiculous... Have one back ordered but in the meantime I put in an order for the 670 GTX and should be arriving next week.

From the early hands on on overclock.net, its safe to say the Gigabyte Windforce 3x should be just as good as the asus dc2 top.
Yup. TPU uses a difgerent bench setup. The 2 cards should be extremely similar.

the guys at overclockers uk received in the a little thousands of cards. Much much more stock then the gtx 680. If nvidia really want to milk money they would just make more 680s.
however, it is no surprise that the demand for the gtx 670 is very high.

Hopefully they prioritized the 670 launch (and thus production of said cards) to not miss the launch date. Now that it has come and gone, I'm crossing my fingers that they go full production on additional 680 units.

Got a Gigabyte 670 OC sitting on my floor. Waiting til next payday to get the other stuff to go with the rest of my upgrade is going to be painful.

Crosspic from PC thread. Motherboard came in, had to do a test fit with the 690. I'm liking it, but that H100 just doesn't feel right there.

So I've been reading up on reviews of the 670 to pass the time. Question: Is there a reason that The Witcher 2 is not really used in benches? Just curious since that's the game I'm most looking forward to replaying with the new card.

Correct 1400MHz is the absolute max the very best cards will do for benchmarking only, game stable will be 1250-1350MHz on cards with 8+6 pin power and about 1100-1200MHz on 6+6 pin cards.

Damn, kicking myself now because I didn't get the Gigabyte. The Asus one is only 6+6 pin.
